  1. A jump shift to 3♠ may as well be natural since a fit-jump makes little sense. 1♠ - (2♣) - 3♥ could be different. You might not play NFBs here since 2♥ was not dislodged. However, if 2♥ would not be forcing, is 3♥ best as a good 1-suiter? Perhaps, since a fit-jump is rare and less useful when we have both majors. The best fit-jumps gain most when they help partner bid at the 5-level, such as 1♥ - (1♠) - 3♣* - (4♠) ? 3♣ might work a treat here.
  2. We play neg free bids after our natural openings. For us 1♥ = 4+♥s, 11-15 pts So 1♥ - (1♠) - 2♣ is non-forcing, say 6-10 pts, often 6-cd suit. Okay, what is this: So 1♥ - (1♠) - 3♣ ? Could be - pre-emptive but that duplicates 2♣ to some extent - GF, though some of those hands can double - fit-showing - Bergen - ? What do you think?
  3. You need a way to cater for the heart hands. The balanced ones with 5♥s bid 1NT. If 1♥ rebid is good 19+ any, a hand like x, AKxx, AJxxx, Axx is very awkward. Rebidding 2♦ could see you play there with 4♥ cold. A decent solution (from David Morgan) is to play 2♣ Aspro/Astro here, showing hearts & another, usually a minor. So 1♣ - 1♦ 2♣ - 2♦ = passable "relay" 2♥ = 3-cd support Over 2♦, opener can pass with long diamonds, bid 3♣ canape, bid 2♥ with 5 & a 4-cd minor, bid 2♠ with 4-5 majors. This is not best but simple. As a consequence 1♣ - 1♦ 1♠ - 1NT 2♥ is always 5 spades. If you don't play Aspro, this sequence could be 4-5. Of course, playing Aspro here kills the club hands. We play 1♣ - 1♦ 2♠ 5-5 spades & a minor 2NT minors, could be 4-5 3♣ 6+♣s 3♦ 5-5 reds 3♥ 5-5 Majors
  4. Partner opens 2♣ as 6+, no 4cM, 10-14. When does responder bid 2M and what happens then? 2M is not usually played as forcing, so where does it lie along the line of corrective - constructive - invitational? If ♠KQTxxx ♥xxx ♦xxx ♣x is okay, then opener will be doing a lot of passing. If ♠AQxxx ♥Axx ♦xxx ♣xx is acceptable, opener will need to rip with shortage. If so, is 2NT invitational or to play? After 2♣ - 2♥ when does opener bid 2♠. Is it a 3-1-3-6 (3-1-4-5) minimum? Also, should the same treatment apply after 1♣ - 1♦ - 2♣/♦? Or is 2M best as forcing? This is more problematic if 2♣/♦ does not deny a 4cM.
  5. We play a lot of non-forcing actions here. After 1♣ - (2♣) - ? We would double with ♠Kxxx ♥Qxxx ♦xxx ♣xx & bid 2♥ with ♠xxx ♥KJTxxx ♦xx ♣xx This focuses on partscores. Strong club systems do well on games & slams, not so well on partials. We try to redress that, without losing much game accuracy. After dbl, opener's 2x is non-forcing. Have to jump or cue to force. However, if their overcall is 2♥/♠, Lebensohl applies so 3x is forcing. Not keen on Rubensohl here. If the overcall is 3x, responder's suit is forcing. Most also play double now as GF but we still don't. We would still double 3♣ with the hand above and pass opener's 3y.
