I suggest that this question has already been answered : I thought that it was well known that many countries and app stores consider bridge to be a gambling game and against their laws or their terms of trade. Anyway, why would anybody think that BBO willingly provides a free online base for commercial activities?

I am still exploring and coming to terms with V3 for TDs. There are many changes and different ways of doing things. Perhaps I am a slow learner, but I am not yet ready to take the plunge with a real-life tournament where, historically, the players have been used to a good experience.
-
When I am a TD running or otherwise involved in a free tournament I use the Windows version 5.2.21. Recently (perhaps a few weeks) I have realised that I do not see any tournament chat - whether sent by the TD or by players. I see anything which I send to the tournament - I suppose that that is a record of my 'sending'. I have checked all my setting and can find no change. Has there been some amendment to the software? There have been some recent questions about TDs seeing tournament chat twice. Has the correction of that bug affected me?

I am still coming to terms with the intricacies of TDing a tournament on Version 3. Imagine that a reserve TD (available on the TD list in case the main, non-playing TD is disconnected) decides to play in the tournament. Can he see the results of the hands, or the play of those hands, at other tables in the round which he is currently playing, thus giving himself UI? Either: 1) when those other tables have finished playing and/or 2) whilst play is still in progress? Is the answer any different for unclocked tournaments as against clocked tournaments?
-
Either that or find a way of creating seamless communication between the servers. Perhaps that has proved to be impossible or a distant dream.
-
I sometimes log on to Version 3 as invisible. But not always. At my age, I can't always remember what I did. How can I tell whether or not I am invisible, without logging off and on again?

I refuse to be defined by my wheelchair, and I cannot be the only player unable to hold a hand of cards, which is why I find BBO a godsend and I very much appreciate it. I try to put something back by arranging at least four and sometimes up to 8 tournaments each week. This change from 1 July fills me with apprehension and fear of substantial difficulties ahead. Each tournament has a different set of options (MP%/IMPs, Swiss, Indi/Pairs, 12 to 18 hands with 2 or 3 hands per round, etc.). Each one gives me a laborious, finger-aching challenge in typing title, welcome and description messages, in addition to then choosing options over 4 pages of tournament set-up. Currently, this is all achievable by setting-up each tournament once and then copying it to the next week. It is easy, thereafter, to copy each tournament forward by 7 days as each week passes. To do this I need to be able to create several tournaments in advance (simply to wait for their starting-time and never to run at the same time). I have not needed to create a tournament from scratch for over 4 years – the copy function has been a boon. If I can create only one tournament at a time this simple task will become intolerably onerous. Every tournament will need to be created painfully and slowly from scratch. And when will I find the time? When one tournament ends on Friday night and the next starts early on Saturday morning, I have neither the strength nor the time to create the tournament over-night and – on those occasions when I have a night or two in hospital or on respite I shall not have the opportunity. The tournaments which I create are for a club membership. I cater for a "members' list" of over 800, of which over 500 have played in at least one tournament in the last three months. At least one of the tournaments (and often two) exceeds the 20 table limit. And what is going to happen on the 1 August? I wish that I felt more confident about a future improvement than I do.

Casual game hands in recent history?
jandrew replied to maccrimmon's topic in General BBO Discussion
As of now I can only see back to the 22 May - just 14 days. Are we now limited to only 14 days back archives? Have the rules changed? What will be the permanent rule? -
Casual game hands in recent history?
jandrew replied to maccrimmon's topic in General BBO Discussion
As of now, I can only see hands back to about 18 May 2020. Am I being too hasty? Or has there been a change of plan? -
Is there any indication yet of a timetable for the removal of the time restrictions on free tournaments? The pressure in BBO's capacity at the restricted times appears to have substantially reduced :)

Private Club member can't join club events

ooops Now I can count 4 times when you have spouted this incorrect information. It is amazing that you have done this immediately after Barmar (who should know these things) has given the corect information. -
Oh dear. You really have got it wrong. So far I have found you giving this wrong advice three times - I may find more. Use the HTML5 Version - do NOT use Adobe Flash
-
I suspect that this is the wrong way round. If you are using the Adobe Flash based software you will NOT be able to access the new "casual" section. You and your partners should both be using the latest HTML5 browser version.

Casual game hands in recent history?

Thanks :) -
This is, I think, rather behind the times. When I first started creating teams matches over 8 years ago it was common knowledge that the host could chat (both ways) to all the players. Usually the host was not a player - else he would have had difficulties moving from table to table to sort out problems, disconnections, etc. It was certainly the case that the host could not do his job properly without having full access.

Casual game hands in recent history?
jandrew replied to maccrimmon's topic in General BBO Discussion
It would be really good to know if there is possibility (even for a limited time) to see those archives for up to the two past months. -
Nor did the original version (5.2.21) allow access to the users computer. The new tool asks the user to browse to the relevant file and explicitly accept the upload. That is precisely what the windows version did. Surely it is possible, when porting the new tool into the tournament set-up routine, to follow the current tool's procedure of asking the user to browse to and explicitly accept the upload of the file. This would allow a choice from multiple files - choosing the one relevant to the particular tournament. In short - exactly what the windows version did very successfully.

Do those words in brackets suggest that there is another archive where these hands are stored? If so, are we allowed to access it? -
I don't see how this "only helps fraction of members (new comers)". It is a major help to those of us struggling to run free tournaments in a very congested space. Moving all the casual section to another server is a significant improvement and should not be delayed until all the 'tweeks' are finished. Half a loaf is much, much better than no loaf at all - and tastes a lot better for an early delivery. So - congratulations to BBO - a good decision.

Congratulations on your upgrade of the HTML5 version. https://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/82632-bbo-upgraded-multi-server-bbo/page__p__996492__hl__%2Bversion+%2B5.6.0__fromsearch__1#entry996492 If this will allow you to : Remove the table size restrictions on free tournaments; Remove the ban on free tournament between 11.00 and 16.00 Eastern time; when will that relaxation happen?

I am very pleased to have this new tool; and will not deny that by suggesting improvements. I will, however, note that this tool requires the user to browse and choose the file to be uploaded. The original windows version (5.2.21) of the tournament set-up had a choice for limiting entries to "include players from a file on your PC". If this choice was set then every time that the tournament was modified the user was put into browse mode and had to choose the file again. This ensured that the user could use different files for different tournaments. A similar feature with the latest browser version tournament setup would help jdempsey52 with his problem. I note that it is possible that the new tool might be incorporated in an update of the tournament setup routine, in which case we might expect two new "Restrictions": Include players from a file on your PC Exclude players from a file on your PC

Creating an Include List from a file?
jandrew replied to paynterf's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Yes. I have been using it all week it's a wonderful tool. https://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/82454-include-list-disappeared/page__p__995239__fromsearch__1#entry995239 -
Ah - I see. I wondered if there was a reason. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Diana. That's good to know - I will make sure that I "modify the tournament" when required. Now - this is a great tool - so I'm not going to look the gift horse in the mouth - but a major improvement to this, and the manual method, would be for a change to the list to automatically trigger a modification to the tournament - like a change to the start time does. (I blush to remember the number of times that I have manually added a member but been embarrassed that he/she was still unable to register because I had forgotten to modify the tournament.)
