Auto Score Adjustment in Clocked Tournament?
jnichols replied to criptik's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
I have been directing online for out club VACB games. BBO adjusts unfinished boards automatically when it can and does NOT notify me of those. If it can't figure a fair adjustment it scores them as average and sends me a notification for me to evaluate the hand and determine an adjustment. My players have been told that if BBO has adjusted the score they can make a director call and I will look at the hand. I have directed probably 500+ online games and have been asked to look at these automatic adjustments maybe 50 times. I have fixed maybe two of them. Is it "fair" to adjust unfinished hands? It's not the same as F2F but if you are going to terminate a hand unfinished it is probably the best you can do. Don't expect online to be the same as F2F. Would you like to be able to revoke online. I have seen people say that it's not real bridge because you can't revoke, make insufficient bids, bid or play out of turn. -
I am running as a VACB club 4 teams works - must be 2 or 3 rounds - Number of rounds must be less than number of teams. 2 1/2 actually works - BBO adds a pair to the half pair, then adds a team to make the number of teams even - that makes 4 teams. Not the best of competition, but it will run.

Mark them as "Ignore" and then use sub select. They will show up in black.

Depends what south discards on the diamond tricks. Discard a heart and EW get 2 hearts and the ace of diamonds GIB adjusts based on single dummy, not double dummy.

A good idea!

I am getting some messages that suggest a database overload problem.

I think it is quite rare for ACBL, tournaments or clubs, to run Swiss Pairs. I do run "Swiss Pairs" on occasion, but it is an unusual situation for a non-ACBL group. The players are not duplicate players. So, every table does a shuffle and deal every hand, 4 boards per round, rubber(?) bridge scoring. There is a VP scale in ACBLscore that converts those scores to VPs.

ACBL uses VPs also

getting tossed from INDY for calling TD

What would you have the director do - You surely got a top board - There is no Law against bad bidding. Report this to abuse@bridgebase.com -
Talk with your club manager. They can forward your suggestions to the ACBL. Much more likely to get results than posting here. ACBL has at least a couple hundred directors so BBO is much more likely to listen if the requests come through there.

Running tournaments after Flash ends Dec 2020
jnichols replied to shed53's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
I've been running my tournaments on V3 since April. -
I want to run a MItchell movement, 11 rounds of 2 boards, with 16+ tables with no playbacks. If 16 gets split now I get playbacks.
-
Please announce changes when they are actually available. Far less confusion that way.

Making sense of the 'TD' screen

When you are directing you should concentrate on that. -
Making sense of the 'TD' screen
jnichols replied to Vesian's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
I think you are 100% correct. The "History" tab is for players. It shows the hands and tournaments that the person logged on has played. Why would you want to look at the hands you played last week when you are directing today? -
Same match points, different percentages

Suggest you provide the tournament number / date / and player IDs to BBO. Can't answer your question without more info. -
The ACBL offers a class, but it is not required. You only have to pass the test. You can use any materials you like, except for another person. When I took the test about 20 years ago you still had to matchpoint a couple of travelers, I took the class about a year later and they had a new test - no travelers - much simpler.

Yes - just a test - Open book
-
How rude - there is no level so low that the results are not important to the players at that level
-
Note: This happens within the software at the ACBL. My understanding is that results on BBO do not reflect this/

Examine Table History after the tournament

I generate a "full" set of 36 boards and load them in every time. The problem with setting the "number of boards" in define tournament was fixed a couple of months ago. Used to be it would only load the number of hands specified in the tournament. Now it loads the entire set and uses as many as needed.
