To me, without prior discusion on methods: _X=4+♥, 8hcp or so _2♥=normal 5+ suit, forcing _3♥=preempt, just like the hand given. This is my bid. _4♥=splinter. I guess you could X (or pass) then try to bid ♥, but see these options inferior to an immediate, highly descriptive 3♥ bid.
-
On this beauty hand, I want to make the weakest bid possible: 3♦. If prd. somehow can do more over that response, I'll probably introduce spades later, but under no circumstances now.
-
You can't really pass with this hand opposite a 2 level overcall at vuln. IMPs. Of course, things can easily get outta hand, but I'll try a 2♦ cue; I'm really hoping for a ♥ bid, but I'll raise 2nt to 3nt and pass 3♣ or 2♠.
-
Yes, a simple raise seems like an underbid a bit, but the hand is not as good as it looks; the K ♦ may well be wasted. The X alternative, imo, shd be on a 5+, better quality ♠ suit and ♣ tolerance (Qx enough I think); that's not what I have (great ♣ support and poor ♠ suit). My guess: 3♣=10; 2nt=7-8; X=5-6

To me, bidding 3♥ now is the equivalent of hanging partner for reopening on any minimum hand with ♣ shortness. It's not even close: imo, 2♥=10; 3♥=2
-
Your original plan is not too bad, although the fact that you have some discomfort bidding now should tell you that it wasn't the best. I'd open 2nt, but perhaps I'm in the minority. In the given sequence, I'll take the low road and bid only 1nt on the 2nd round. Unless prd. finds some ♦ raise if opps. compete over that, I'm done bidding.
-
The you're an idiot, because the 3♦ bidder plays better then 98% of this forum... I must have touched a nerve... So, let's review: The vast majority if not all players posting on this thread oppose the bidding as it occurred, but the bidder (probably yourself actually) "plays better than 98% of this forum" Nice logic and probably the best we'll ever get from you. Bridge-wise, you clearly don't belong in this forum, but you also failed the main requirement to post here and that is: to refrain from personal attacks. Oh, and your offensive post is being reported.

X. I don't care if it's t/o or penalty; I've got both covered. I really dislike 3nt now as I see 2 major flaws with it; a) if it's right, it wrongsides it, b)it gives up on defending 3♦ X, as partner clearly won't be able to hit it.

1) The 3♦ bid really sucks
-
Does this make any sense or it is just me? I'm a 3♠ bidder; I already promised both majors, and now I'm sugesting a valid strain for game, which may well be the winner. I think ♦ tolerance is implied as I could easily pass 3♦
-
1) Pass. Make the Q♦ into Q♣ and I try 4♠. 2) 2NT now to get the ♣ in the picture, followed by more ♥ bidding. 3) Pass. Yeh, I'd like to bid a non-forcing 3♥, but prd. may not like that joke.

Invite @ IMPs (and MPs) green vs. red. Bid game @ IMPs red.
-
+1 To me it's: X=10; 1♥=4 @ this form of scoring.

high level decision
fachiru replied to olegru's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I initially voted for Pass as to me, given the auction and vulnerability, opps. are clearly sacrificing. I'm having 2nd thoughts now about how a forcing pass would be superior to an immediate/simple ♦ raise. I definitely dislike Dbl at this point. So, IMO: 6♦=10; Pass=7; X=1 -
Given the stiff ♠ and a potential ♥ fit (2nt does not deny that suit), I'd rate: 3♥=10 3nt=2 3nt is really lazy given the natural ♥alternative.
-
I'm going with 3♥, but I have a feeling that Pass is the winning bid. If we buy it there, at least we'll have more trumps then them and hopefully, if bidded promptly I won't get X-ed, which is my primary goal on this beauty seq.
-
The title "stay fixed?" (to me) means "pass 5♦?" But the OP goes on to actually suggesting that bidding the small slam may not suffice...lol Bidding 6♦ here seems pretty clear to me now and nothing else "fairly sane" comes to mind.
-
Another 3♥ bidder here. A clear Dbl. without the 5th ♥. I realize I'm forcing to game witch is far from certain, but dislike the ambiguity of X on the actual hand.
-
Strongly agree with 3♠ jump setting trumps instead of the actual 2♠ rebid. The only real problem you're facing now as responder is: do you encourage slam with a ♦ cue or sign off in 4 ♠? If you cue, partner, perhaps thinking you have 1st R control in ♦, will very likely ask for keycards; you think the 5 level is safe? If you won't be really happy to hear Blw., perhaps you should sign off now and not cue; that would be my choice at the table.
-
Even against novices, a 3nt bid won't fool anyone. It will just give opps. more room to describe. IMO: 5♦=10, 3nt=2, P=1
-
They told you what their agreement was, didnt they? They can deviate from that as they please; the guy told you their expected range for that bid; he may have strategically chosen to lower it (for example: 3rd seat, nv vs v, etc). You conveniently left that info out  So, no, they didnt "fail to alert correctly", not even close. And this is not a Multi hand as your topic suggests.
-
OK, so we've got roughly a split so far between 3♦ and some number of ♥. At the table, as much as I dislike fake reverses, I bid 3♦, as I wanted to force to at least game on that powerful hand with excellent ♠ support. We move to the 2nd bidding round now; I'm afraid I'll force 3♦ on you. 3nt from prd. now. To recap, we've had: 1♥-(p)-1♠-(p) 3♦-(p)-3nt-(p) to you now. Are you done bidding? (MP scoring again)
-
You're playing MPs and open 1♥ in 1st on: ♠AQ10 ♥KQJ10652 ♦K92 ♣- Opps. are silent; prd. responds 1♠. So: 1♥-(p)-1♠-(p)-? I'd like to hear some ideas before I move to the next round of bidding... Thanks all.
-
As both 3♦ and 4♦ would be splinters in support of ♥ on this sequece, it sounds like the actual 4♦ bid means void. If this is correct (I'd ask the opps to be sure), then I'm bidding the grand; it may well make plus you only live once. On a lesser distribution (as OP suggested) or uncertainty about opps' 4♦, I hit 6♥.

The 1NT response was real dumb, wasns't it. 3nt now, too late for spade support.
