  1. OK, the title was just to get you interested, it didn't actually happen at the table where South was sillafu, North was borno & they did not have much of a role to play. [hv=pc=n&s=sa876ht73dt8764c9&w=skqt53hk986dk2c84&n=sj9haj5dqj53ck652&e=s42hq42da9caqjt73&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1sp2cp2hp3cp3nppp&p=d3d9dtdkc8c2cqc9s2s7sq]399|300[/hv] At the table, the declarer just went after ♣'s & ended with 8 tricks. However, as the cards lie, if he went for a Morton's fork in ♠ & followed it with a fork in ♥, he could make the hand. South has to duck the ♠ to prevent 4♠, 2♦, 3♣ tricks; North has to duck the ♥ to prevent 1♠, 3♥, 2♦, 3♣ tricks & after both duck, declarer can go after ♣ to get 1♠, 1♥, 2♦, 5♣ tricks. I was wondering what would be the best single dummy line of play here & how well the above line fares against it...
  2. "Chick" has summed up the issues with this feature in BBO News, including the bug I mentioned of booting me when there were only 3 players at a table.
  3. I agree with the majority of opinions disliking this 'feature', it is more like a bug, it certainly bugged me no end. It is bad enough having distractions while thinking that you don't need any more stuff like this to add to it. Another problem I faced due to this was that when a player at the table left & we were waiting for the host to find a 4th, I got automatically booted from the table as I did not bother to make a bid until we found a 4th player.
  4. After 1♣-1♠; you usually have 3♦ & 3♥ artificial that you can assign various meanings; e.g. 3♦ = 4♠'s (Bal or Med Splinter) on which 3♠ by Resp is NF, 3♥ is Relay (3NT = Bal 18-19, 3♠ = ♥ Splinter 16-17, 4♦ = ♦ Splinter 16-17, 4♣ = 5♣ +4♠). 3♥=18+ with good ♣'s.
  5. Regarding the Twin puzzle, if the mother crosses the international date line after the 1st child is born, you can have the younger twin 1 day older than the elder twin, or even two days older at times if you arrange all this at Feb end.
  6. I had the same problem of my client becoming obsolete; re-downloading & re-installing as suggested by Inquiry's post worked.
  7. I wonder if one can write a shell script to keep BBO always on; in any case it would be nice if BBO lets us know the criteria it uses to determine inactivity.
  8. Lacking Multi, I would open 1♣ (I open ♣ with 33 or 44). If 2N opening instead, I would double the 3♠, not particularly caring if pd took it as T/O or penalty.
  9. These are the type of hands Multi was designed for; if you play it as Weak 2 in a Major or any 4441 17-24 HCP hands.
  10. Yeah, & the older twin celebrated the b'day a couple of days after the younger :)
  11. Duh, i just saw the 1st page of this post while posting that reply...
  12. The matches required for a knockout is always one less than the total number of players, so it is 78 for 79 players (or 79 if you include the 1st round bye as a match as there are odd number of contestants)
  13. I like the Rumpelsohl version - Your sohl or mine? - not that it matters much in the decision to be made here...
  14. For sure 2NT is that Unusual Inverted Psycho Rumpelsohl creature.
  15. I was wholeheartedly rooting for the BBF over the weekend...well except while watching footer. BBF appears to have a bright future, good show Timo & all the others involved.
  16. When 2♥ can include a contructive hand, a game try of 3♣ is called for, certainly on 2♠ if not on 2♥.
  17. You can play 3!d rebid here as a variety of strong balanced/medium splinter raises.
  18. The data appears to be retained for the past 2.5 months.
  19. Too bad about the timing of this match, no chance of getting the footer game postponed I suppose :)
  20. Yes Fluffy, the Windows client will be scrapped in 2055, prepare to migrate by then.
  21. Ever since the Browser version of BBO was inaugurated, I have been using both Windows & Browser versions together. Both have their own pros & cons as already mentioned in earlier posts, so I just place both windows side by side on my monitor & make the best of both worlds by using whichever ones features I feel the need of at the moment (often both simultaneously, say when kibitzing open & closed rooms of vu gr). Until the Windows only features like GIB, Chat Log, Chat Room, Instantaneous refresh, Text to Voice, etc. are included in the Browser version, I do not expect to completely switch over.
  22. A couple of programs that I use fairly often are Deep Finesse & SuitPlay. They work perfectly & also have the advantage of being free - in an ideal world all S/W would be free  Deep Finesse - The Interactive Hand Analyzer SuitPlay Of course, there nothing particularly wrong in having to pay for the world champion Jack...however, if you are looking for other free/demo software, check out: GREAT BRIDGE LINKS :: Bridge Software News and Links (note that the #2 after Jack is WBridge5 which is free  ) Some other stuff that you may find useful: Ted's Bridge World - Software for All Templates by Sid & Abby
  23. I would bid 2♥ with max hands & 4 or less ♠ and 2♠ with max hands & 5 card ♠ (as here). Jumps to 3♠/4♠ by passed hands do not exist for me.
  24. If LHO has been bidding on just the !c suit with a 1228 kind of hand, you would have to strip the other suits & throw him in with the !c, pitching !s from hand...but highly unlikely that he lead a doubleton !h instead of singleton !s...
  25. As pd did not overcall spades, either immediately or after both opps limited hand, it would be more natural to balance with 2N than with X, if choosing to balance.
