Sorry, not really end of story. :) Elvis did not leave this building. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pager "A one-way numeric pager can only receive a message consisting of a few digits, typically a phone number that the user is then expected to call." http://www.sdwireless.com/pagers/index.htm http://www.epinions.com/513996_Motorola_LS...c_Pager__Black_ http://shopper.cnet.com/pagers/command-pri...9-30538261.html There are many brands. No place to put here, sorry for that. As one easily may see it's impossible to send message with a one-way numeric pager. Please allow only one-way function numeric pagers, rest will work well.------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The ACBL Board of Directors approved a comprehensive ban on electronic devices for all national-level events, but not to regional or Intermediate-Newcomer contests: Electronic devices, excluding health-related equipment, capable of sending or receiving communication, including but not limited to, headphones, earphones, cellular phones and minicomputers: (1) shall not be allowed in the playing areas, adjacent hallways, rest-rooms or accessible break areas; and (2) shall not be used during a session. These restrictions shall apply to all pairs, team members, captains, coaches, recorders and kibitzers and shall apply throughout any actual playing session or segment. A violation of this policy shall result in a disciplinary penalty of one full board (or 12 IMPs at that form of scoring) for the first offense. A second offense shall result in disqualification from the event for the pair/team. Kibitzers violating this policy shall be removed from the playing area for the remainder of the session. Participants will be reminded not to approach the playing area with a personal electronic device in their possession, even if the device is turned off.

Pager Indispensable Public safety I am not surprised they are unusual words in daily life for many people.
-
Foresight please. There are scheduled squads and shifts. Also support forces. Levels of admins authorised to form a crisis management center, co-workers. Even those sometimes not enough. Neighbor state/s help highly appreciated depends th size of ind/multiple case/s. Simply, is a dog "catcher" also licensed specialist to control elephant/s or snake/s or monkey/s or lion/s or tiger/s or bear/s etc. accidentally escaped cage/s in Zoo running uncontrolled in streets & gardens? Perhaps you quickly read only 1st line "Animal control officers", ignored next items & pages and sorry misevaluated or underestimated. In this age frontline protection is a must, noone has th luxury to miss a second. It's not easy to train and keep under best performance such experienced, skilled personnel 24 hours. Believe me, it is easier to issue electronic call of duties rather than trying to drive in traffic jam. Public safety also serve to maintain control for maximum chaos situtations. Yes to child care service but no to communication center service at bridge venue ? I think forming plans B, C is rationale versus surprises of life. Anything is possible anytime. Th matter is you are ready and firm or not in time when unexpected things happen.
-
Well, please explain what you mean by it. I'm with those who think that the case of an individual who must carry a turned on pager or cell phone while playing bridge are very rare. I can't think of one off the top of my head. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Safety
-
Huh  Nobody ? Oh I see, maybe "court order" or a letter signed by th governor office needed to prove that person granted to carry pager and is an indispensable one. Omg. Sorry, i am unsure you know what means "public safety" :o Would you like to hear "we are unable to reach th person you needed immediately. Most probably th electronic communication blocked in a bridge tournament" ? Please !
-
Most talented surgeons are able to operate during th case while listening music. Sorry, i cannot recognize Bridge game could be more serious and harder to fix than humanbeing anatomy. It is a race versus time element. One must hit correct keys at the precise moment while problem aroused. Electronic devices ban might aim to serve fairplay. Really very good, I support wholeheartedly. If I remember correct a situation occurred in Europe some years ago and 2 famous european champion title owner players with their organisators caught while exchanging special cards only seen by some xray lenses. Surely that crew banned by both EBU and their official national authorities. I hope th officials would think again about public safety. There are many emergency staff in this world and life is full of with surprises. A communication center could establish like child care, accommodation, catering. I don't think " I am in a running important (!) hot tournament" stupid excuse is valid when emergency duty call received. I am against such players would be penalised.
-
Say someone hired by th state. Carrying a pager. Do organizators really care public safety or they ignore and only want absolute silence during event?

I play AKQ clubs.

Double dummy 7NT >14 tricks  I'll have to check with NewSpeak and the Ministry of Truth before I respond. My contact at the ministry of silly walks said jon was wrong. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/370230/monty...of_silly_walks/ You scored another absurd thread "tamtam".

 No! I strenously object. You're never serious. Just only back to th act of hallucinating; a wandering of the mind; error; mistake; a blunder mood. Evidence? Oh yeah. Here is it : http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...60entry330125 You might trying to break one of your own records. Ha ha. People teased and you deserved. Then showed a serpentine action. Just check th whole thread. Don't b shy  As you have behavioral troubles normally you suspect any other one is worst than you. I see, you only need attention as a humanbeing, and while th others mostly don't care you live in th edges. So you hopelessly tried such a mean provocation : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man You're always visitin' wrong address th_novice. Oh, wuz it th_hooked n friendzzz? Wuteveeer. No big deal. Take care !

Really?;) Subject : Invited pairs tournament for forum members Host : H_Karluk Me to you there that day: Good. Take your seat. If you tried to be funny, again succeeded. Perhaps I must read your nick as "tamtam". Hmm, something completely inappropriate there, but unimportant as usual!

Is your letter 'E' broke or something, since "the" has become "th" for some reason. :P What happened at the other table? And still, what was the auction? You can name the players N, E (if you have it available), S and W. ;) :) Objection : Th act of objecting; as, to prevent agreement, or action, by objection. Question : Th act of asking; interrogation; inquiry; as, to examine by question and answer. I didn't ask "anymorra questions". I simply asked "Anymore objection please". You can form th dough into little balls B)

Wall Street vs. Main Street. "Corporate America". Yup, cool informal phrase. I am told less cut throat there. Hmm, really sorry but I dont think there's a room for amateurs in the history of finance world anywhere in this planet. ps. I will visit NY. Have a Turkish younghood friend, very good educated in US. Later on married with an American Lady. I wonder Manhattan Island where they live.

I am sorry. It was a deal played in Spingold many years ago . As a respect I promised myself to keep th names hidden. Obviously th players there were tired a lot during a long marathon. I have not a small doubt abt their skills. Such things may happen anytime, anywhere in th world. Just an interesting situation and i do not have words to comment about th full hand. If it was in chess I could name it as "chess blindness"--sometimes player looks to board very cafefully but as his/her mind is busy with many variants and avoidance plays he/she can easily misread th original position at that moment. Time pressure factor especially triggers it. That's why I found suitable to post double dummy without any comment. Sometimes I watch scenes on TV and there are subtitles as "no comment". So why not same thing occurs here. Anymore objection please ?

I've worked for both the ACBL and what was at one time the largest full-time chess facility in the country, and known many people who are good (say, 95th percentile or so) at both games. To a person, they prefer bridge. Most notably probably Woman's Grandmaster Irina Levitina. In the United States at least, serious bridge is far more popular than serious chess. The American Contract Bridge League has about twice the membership of the United States Chess Federation, more club games, and bigger tournaments. One year, I was the 8th most active member of the United States Chess Federation. Chess is a great game, and I still play some (mostly online). Bridge is better. May,3rd 1997 , New York, US. Deep Blue Supercomputer played a fascinating match versus reigning World Chess Champion, Superstar Garry Kasparov. A dramatic victory occurred in 6th game; software won. Kasparov vs. Deep Blue (The Rematch) was one of the most popular live events ever staged on the Internet. The web site received more than 74 million hits representing more than 4 million user visits from 106 countries during the 9-day event. If you say any online Bridge event can also get same hit sorry I've no words! Th idea - to me - yes, a bridge pro union/org is quite possible like done in chess and like in many fields of life. I wonder what's th barrier and or pressure that bridge people do not attempt. Real Professionalizm brings benefits to th World. When Bridge Professionals care to a code of ethics and establish special relationship with clients or patrons I know there will be a speedy and firmly rising market. So far unfortunately prospects are a little bit bleak and a more careful scrutiny needed :(

And the chess world has not yet recovered from that. When there were two world championship titles many lost interest in either. Sorry, we disagree. To me "competition and alternatives" are two must "to improve". It's under fair standards. No matter win or lose. Moreover I am pretty sure Chess rankings mathematically firm than Bridge rankings. Sad to say that they've more players, kibbers, rewards with most powerful online servers and softwares. I amateurly like and fully respect to both nice games as mind sports, anyways it's a truth that at least for now "Chess" has a superiority when I compare with Bridge.

About professionalism I found such interesting things when i used google. Thanks to (SLM) online training module coordinated by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, USA. http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr...alism/prof.html Details : http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr...m/criteria.html http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr...sibilities.html http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr...cteristics.html http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr...sibilities.html http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr...mpetencies.html http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr.../education.html http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr...sm/support.html http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/tutorials/pr...ism/issues.html I liked those : "Professionals have a high degree of self-control of their behavior and are governed by a code of ethics. " "Professionals are expected to establish a special relationship with clients or patrons." "Professionals are expected to have a lack of self-interest." "They can work independently and charge fees or they can be part of an organization." So I think World Bridge Professionals Organisation is not an utopia. Garry Kasparov - Soviet Chess Superstar in past guided and afterwards they established a pro organisation apart from World Chess Federation.

Just curiosity. For one moment please forget abt given layout. Can anyone give a fine sample "if" there's a room for 3♣? 1♦-1♥ 1♠-
