  1. Hi, I guess this might be an existing feature, but I couldn't locate. Last evening in a club bridge we had a hand on which we had some discussion afterwards on possibilities of different lines of play. I was wondering if it is possible to feed details of the hand in a bridge movie and try to play it the way we solve the problems in the "double dummy problems" section. I tried creating a .lin file using BBO. But using that option I can only create one deal with its bidding and the way it was played once. I can't simply start from the beginning and try another play. I hope you get what I am saying. Please let me know if there is a way to do it with BBO. And I hope the solution is possible with the downloadable version of the software. Web version is too unwieldy for me. :) Thanks, Mukesh
  2. Well, if you already know the answer I don't have much left to add. Have I? :) Well of course I didn't run a spreadsheet to keep track of stats, but in general I think money loss does indicate to a great extent. I know it can be because of my sheer bad play, but reasonable amount of bridge that I have played tells me that number of deals where I lost because of my bad play were significantly less compared to otherwise. Anyway I get your point that people only remember where they were unlucky and tend to forget where they had their share of luck. And as Fred has pointed out, one man's bad luck is another's good luck. So universal energy is constant :P
  3. Thanks for the response Fred. Maybe I was not able to digest the streaks of bad luck because of my lack of exposure to luck based games.
  4. Hello, So I thought of trying out Bridge for Money. Concept is quite fine in the sense the way it makes sure no cheating is possible, and how if a player is missing then GIB plays for the rest of the deal etc. Of course, one realizes that it is based on luck to a great extent, as you get money as per the points you make in a deal, which is largely depended on how good cards you are dealt with. However I thought that luck should average out over a period of time and in general you should earn if you play better. However I have my concerns about randomness of the deals. In my tenure of around 3 weeks, I have felt the deals are dealt very weirdly. They r not quite random. I have seen following patterns 1) Opps continuously keep getting games/slams while you just keep defending 2) They get vul games while you get non-vul games 3) When you get game, distribution goes awry 4) You go to 10 cent room and see that things are going fine, and as soon as you move to higher room, suddenly you start getting Yarborough (or closer) and you lose it all I should mention that the thing that I have seen happening fairly is play of GIB. GIB plays equally good for both, and the bidding confusions happen equally between you and GIB and also the opp and GIB. I know what I stated sounds like a cry from a bad player who is trying to make excuses for losing. However I discussed it with few other players and they echo'ed the same thoughts. One person even said that once his bad luck spree continued for 10 days. So point of my this post is a) to know if there is some logic to the deals. B ) Or if there is some possible security flaw which someone could compromise to get good hands for them? c) Or if none of those, then can we put some logic such that on an average a person gets total 20pts hands (including partner) over period of let say 20 deals. I would also appreciate if others could share their experiences as well. Please let me know if my understanding went wrong somewhere. Thanks, Mukesh
  5. Earlier some things used to happen just with mouse hover. e.g. When I hover mouse over somebody's id, I would get to see his profile details. Or if I browse the movie after a game is over, I can browse through what bidding happened on other tables, just by hovering mouse over other tables' results. Now I have to click to get the same results. This restriction is not so nice I think.
  6. Thanks Rain. 1) Oh well, sometimes in tournaments when u r waiting for other tables to finish, u would tend to check a mail or two. 2) I understand the invisible concept you are talking about. I was talking about when you right click on a user and then click on 'edit player notes', there you get an option for "invisible". That option is always grayed out. 3) It works now. Thanks. 4) No, sometimes it so happens that even after bidding has gone to higher levels or even got over, and I still see no information. 5) Ok. 6) Ok.
  7. Hi, Thanks a lot for the wonderful software and service. However there are some minor issues that I have been facing and I feel if they are fixed, the software would be much easier to use. Following are those: 1) The blinking of the icon in taskbar on my turn to bid/play doesn't work sometimes. Earlier I had complained about it when it didn't use to work at all. Now it works most of the times, but fails sometimes and results in people groaning on me. Please see if something can be done about it. 2) There is an option to be "invisible" to particular person. That option is never usable. Is there some particular condition in which it works? Or is it some option that would come in future versions? 3) I am not able to open movie files (.lin) through BBO software. Earlier I used to double click on them and they used to open up smoothly through BBO. But now I get error saying "Missing or corrupt language file". While this, it also creates some folders in the place where my .lin file is located. The folders created are "bm_results", "conventions","conv_cards","constraints","lists", "players", "temp". Then I need to delete these folders. However, I can open the .lin file if I choose to 'open movie from computer', when I start the software. But even in that case, once the movie is opened, there is no option of opening another movie from there itself. I need to open another instance of software. Furthermore it doesn't remember from which location did I open the last .lin file. I have to browse to that location always. It doesn't support drag/drop either. Please look into this. 4) Sometimes when I click on a bid to ask explanation for the bid, I get a text saying "no information available". How, why and when does that happen? 5) The way BBO has a section of "free tournaments", can we have a section for "free+open for public tournaments" as well? Because right now whenever I go, most of the tournaments are not open for public. And that serves no purpose, in my opinion. Also, is it possible to get some alerts when a tournament for public is created? 6) When a TD asks for substitutes, can there be a hyperlink to the tournament in that message? Its quite tedious to find the tournament in that list, from the number given. Or is there any other way of going to the tournament, which I am unaware of? Regards, Mukesh
  8. And I should add that there are sound alerts, which probably work fine, but I can't use them at times. e.g. when I m listening music, or when there are others in room and I don't have headphone.
  9. Hi, I observed an issue with BBO (4.8.3) and I reported it to some user which I don't remember who it was but the id suggested that it was someone where I could report such things. He/she suggested me to contact support@bridgebase.com, from where Rain suggested me to post here. So that explains the reason behind this post here. Issue: I have seen that if while playing, if I switch to some other window (e.g. some browser or outlook etc), then when my turn to play comes, the window starts blinking in the task-bar. But this feature doesn't work sometimes. Sometimes other players keep waiting for my turn while I keep thinking that the window will blink when my turn comes. I feel this is quite important feature as it helps me continue playing even when others are slow due to connection or other issues. Rain observed it as well. Do you think there is some issue here? Can anything be done about it? Thanks, Mukesh PS: This is my first post in these forums. I am not sure what to fill in 'description' box
