I connected on BBO for the first time in November 2002.I founded BBO was magic. Two months later, in February 2003 I went in Japan to play in a tournament. This tournament was broadcasted on BBO. Only one table was online and Fred Gitelman was commentating live form the press room. He was the only commentator. I founded this magic. When I went back In France I immediately phoned to my friend Hervé Lustman( Zmud99).I knew Hervé was also a great fan of BBO . I asked him to help me. We presented BBO to the FFB( French Bridge Federation) but they were very reluctant and didn’t want to let us broadcast. Finally, four months later they accepted we broadcasted the 48 last boards of final of the mixed team. It worked so well that Hervé and I decided to try to broadcast the World junior Championship.( August 2003) I met José Damiani and showed him the recording of our vugraph. He was enthusiastic and said immediately yes .He even gave me financial assistance to hire other operators. Here also we did get into big troubles .Neither the directors nor the organizers wanted to broadcast. They involved security reasons. But José Damiani was the President and he made the final decision. This first WBF broadcast was a success.BBO grew from about 1000 people online to 2200, then we decided to broadcast the Bermuda Bowl and the Venice cup .It was in Monaco in October 2003.But no financial assistance this time. Hervé was still ok to be volunteer and I phoned to my friends Henri and Dominique( Farfie et ritong) to join us as volunteer. Lili m, a BBO member was a resident of Monaco and she accepted to provide free housing for all of us. Onsite I met Alfredo Conterno( Aconterno) who also accepted to be volunteer. Roland ( Walddk) was with us of course. During this broadcast BBO grew from 2200 to 5600 people (online in the same time). The final of the BB has been the record holder of Kibitzers for years( Am I right Roland?). Ebridge was present in Monaco and they even had a screen displayed onsite. We obtained that thet shared their screen with BBO. The next broadcast I tried to organize was the European ( opened to the entire world) Championship in Menton. But this time this wasn’t not a WBF organization.EBL was in charge. I didn’t get the authorization to broadcast. Swan broadcasted two tables there I think.

[hv=n=sa2hj1093da875ck32&s=s3hak542d9432caq4]133|200|[/hv] You open 1♥. LHO overcall 2♥ showing black suits 5-5.RHO bid 4♠ and you are finally in 5♥. Lead:♠K,Ace,4,3 You play the ♥2 for your Ace and LHO discards a ♣.
-
You are right Logic. Balicky didn't see that, or more likely he prefered not to notice this because the other line of play was much more beautiful.
-
When you ruff the Diamond, you know who has got the last Diamond because the 9 lead denies the Queen, then if the Queen doesn't appears it must be in RHO. If the Diamond Queen drops then you will simply squeeze ♥♦ LHO even at that point.
-
I was sitting in the plane next to Balicki and he showed me this hand from NO. [hv=d=e&v=n&n=sq92haq65d8765c65&s=sak10875h42dkjcj94]133|200|[/hv] E.......S.......W........N 1NT . 2♠ . 2SA* . x pass. pass. 3♥.3♠ pass 4♠ *2NT: means something.. West leads the 9♦ witch promises the 10 but denies the Queen.Est takes the Ace and play back a trump.
-
Playing in a robot race tournament I couln't chat to the players playing in the same tournament. In the "who is online area" a friend was marked as playing ( even after I refreshed)but he was not playing( I checked on BBOwin)
-
1) Pass : more to lose than to win here I think. 2) X and 2♥ on 2♦ , showing both majors 4-4 (or 5-4 with 5 small cards)
-
I like this hand too. merci
-
The defender was my favorite player in the world: My husband Philippe
-
Declarer's hand was : ♠AKx ♥KJ98xx ♦xx ♣Ax The defender thought for about 10 seconds and played back a trump. Kyle Larsen thought also about 10 seconds and played the King from his hand to play Diamond again. Oops said KL when the defender showed him his trumps :P The defender looked at me and winked of an eye
-
This is smart and could work. Declarer's hand was the one you imagine but unfortunately he had also the 9 of Heart. The declarer was a very good player but he went down here doing nothing very wrong I think.

What does N.M mean please?

I didn't play the Spingold but I was kibitzer on this hand.[hv=d=n&n=sj94ha5dkj2cqj652&e=s10hq1032dq964ck1083]266|200|Scoring: IMP North South 1♣ 1♥ 1NT 2♦* 2NT** 3♥ 4♥ *GF relay ** Deny 3 cards in ♥[/hv] Your partner lead the 6 of Spade ( 4th best), 9,10, Ace The declarer plays the 3 of Diamond,7,J ( standard carding) And now?

I agree with runewell that having always the best hand isn’t even worth doing when playing in robots duplicate matchpoints. This feature is nice when playing Robots reward Tournaments or robots races because of the ‘total points’ count. When playing total points, one doesn’t like wasting his time defending a partial score when overtricks almost count for nothing. Another thing you try to avoid is playing part scores contracts then you tend to pass in 3rd seat when the game is hopeless as you know the numbers of hands available isn’t limited. In these matchpoints’ tournaments, every player plays a number fixed of boards and any of them count as much as others. Having always the best hand has implications that might not get from a normal game and that are not worse having. This only reduces the game. Also this mean there is less competitive biddings and you are most of the time dummy or declarer but too rarely in defence. In another hand I admit that having always the best hand make sure you I am not going to play 12 hands with 9 points average, passing all time and playing in defense with nothing to do. Would it be possible to play robots duplicate matchpoints with random hands, where South hasn’t always the best hand? South could be given an average of 11 HCP instead of 10( or NS 21-22 average This should insure you don’t This would more look like real bridge and skills more valuable. Being aware that nobody at the table will get more HCP than you get change the game. For instance when your partner overcalls and you have 11 HCPs you know he hasn’t more HCP than you then you include this in your reasoning. Same in the carding. This doesn’t embellish the game. This reduces it actually. And this doesn’t make improve your bridge to think to things that do not exist in real bridge.

Biggest event in the history of bridge
Patapon replied to jdonn's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Why don't you play the S0.25 robots races ? You have always the best hand (as in other robots' tournaments but also you'll both get the same hands. No more luck involved but only skills. -
When you ruff a heart he discards a Diamond and you are down if he was dealt with 4 cards in Club. There is a way to make it always, with no guess.

[hv=n=skq432h2dakq102ck2&s=sa65ha43d543ca543]133|200|[/hv] You are playing 6♠ on a ♠ lead. Spades are 3-2 but when you play ♦, LHO discards.

In France we play Patton in most of the summer "beach tournament".Biarritz, La Baule, Deauville, Cannes... We call a Patton a team tourney whatever the movement is.It may run like a swiss or not.We play 3 or 4 sessions of 28 boards.( 1 each day). We usually play 4 boards per round( sometimes 6). When we play 4 boards match, then 16 points are available in each match. -8 for the BAM points- 2 on each board as you win 2-0 or tie 1-1 -8 of these points came by converting IMPs to VP scale(8-0,7-1,6-2,5-3 or 4-4) When we play 6 boards then 24 points are available in each match. There are always money prizes available in all the events. There are also many gift prizes. You also win some expert points( French masterpoints) but almost nothing compared to the points you win in official FFB events.

Intuitively I would play the Ace of Heart and run the Jack of Diamond. I would know if I am down or not immediately that way:) Other lines are too complicated for me and don't seem significantly better.
-
So you play a spade which works as a scissors coup of sorts. LHO wins and plays the heart. Now you can safely knock out the ♣A for 11. There was a similar situation in the Vanderbilt or Spingold a few years back. Yes it is possible it comes from a Spingold or Vanderbilt a few years back. Bertrand Gignoux , a French director, showed me this hand.He said it was a true story that happened in US some years ago. You found it out  LHO hand was : [hv=d=&v=&s=sakq73hqj872d875c]133|100|[/hv] If you play Club now , he can discard his 2 of Heart. RHO could play back a Spade and you are down :) Fun no? Bene

[hv=d=w&n=s86ha63dak963ckq4&s=sj952hk5dqj10cj1092]133|200| [/hv] The bidding: W:1♠ N: double E:Pass S:1NT W:2♥ N:2NT E:pass S:3NT The play: 1)7♠,8,10,J 2)Q♦,5,4,3 3)J♦,7,3,2 4)A♦,8♣,10♦,2♥( oups says West!) West has just realized he has got the 8 of Diamond and made a revoke, playing the 2 of Heart. The director is called and explains the rules: 1) West must play the 2 of Heart as soon as he (legally ) can.No more revoke! 2) If East wins a trick before the 2 of Heart has been played, you can chose to ask him to play Heart or chose to forbid him to play Heart. How do you play ?

Bonjour, I tried the bidding table. I like it a lot.The way to use the robots is simple and nice. What I also like is that it keeps the movies of the previous hands. But I didn't understand how to use "save deals": Nothing happens when I click.I know how to do this on BBOWIN but not here. What I would like also is to have the ability to play teams matches but only with biddings.Gib would just give the results of the carding. I would upload hand from bidding challenges. Béné

Is this 4NT quantitative?
Patapon replied to qwery_hi's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I agree with you. I also play than 3NT- 4NT is ALWAYS quantitative whatever the auction was. It is simple to remember and avoid a lot of problems. If I wish to ask blackwood I bid something else, then 4NT.It is now a BW. Béné
