  1. [hv=d=s&v=e&s=sqj8h8dajt984cq97]133|100|Scoring: IMP Partner deals and opens 2♠. RHO passes. Your bid.[/hv] I'm expecting plenty of wtps I think...
  2. Hi everyone, Two quick questions based on the following hand from a competition at the weekend: [hv=d=n&v=b&n=s96ht4daj962caqj8&w=skjt8h5dqt854c654&e=s753h8632dk73ct92&s=saq42hakqj97dck73]399|300|Scoring: IMP 1♦ – 2♥ 3♥ – 3♠ 4♣ – 4♦ 5♦ – 6♣ 7♥[/hv] We were rather pleased with our auction, and even more pleased that West lead a spade! 1) On a heart lead it seems (d.dummy) (hidden in case someone wants to have a bash first). 2) Is this line legitimate single-dummy?
  3. Well spotted. LHO opened the strong club.
  4. You hold [hv=d=s&v=e&s=sk9ht8654dk754c97]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] LHO opens a strong club and they have a relay auction to 6NT: 1♣ – 1♥ 1♠ - 1NT 2♣ - 2♦ 2♥ - 2NT 3♣ - 3♦ 3♥ - 3NT 4♣ - 5♣ 6NT Hopefully that's about the auction, needless to say I ran out of pass cards. West (opener) has show nothing but a strong club opening and a desire to play in 6NT after his partner has shown a 1♣=4=4=4 hand with 6 controls (A=2,K=1), exactly one of the top three spade honors, and one or more of the top three honors in diamonds and hearts. Your lead :)
  5. I play 2♥ Good 4-card raise 2NT Good 3-card raise 3♦ asking for heart stopper 3♥ asking for diamond stopper 4♣ fitted 4♦/♥ Splinters
  6. it's UDCA-suit pref all over again :) Another one is when you play D0P1 too in a 1430 keycard ask.. then is double showing zero keycards, or the lowest "step" (i.e. 1 or 4)
  7. Do you get a star now Mikey? :)
  8. I think you did all you could. Partner has almost certainly misbid with 3♠, and bidding keycard can never be right. Presuming you took 3♠ to show "extras", you have made a slam try by cuebidding 4♣ and 4♥, partner has taken control and asked for keycard and you have answered correctly. Partner has now signed off. You could be a lot stronger to bid the way you did and I don't think your two 'extra' trumps is enough to continue. Take a deep breath and congratulate partner for making up one, and move onto the next board.
  9. Is the diagram correct that East was dealer? The diamond cuebid suggests west was dealer. What did 3♠ mean?
  10. Wouldn't a weak pair be less likely to open light in 3rd seat?
  11. Ah, I should have added that we play 2♠ as forcing, have edited the OP.
  12. I use the keyboard entry... I think it's intuitive apart from when you're typing a chat message involving one of the letters AKQJT and find that you have played the corresponding card by accident. I don't know how I would have coped operating vugraph with mouse entry!
  13. (1♥) – 2♦ – (pass) – 2♠* (pass) – 3♥ *forcing for one round A bit of confusion resulted in a regular partnership of mine from the 3♥ bid. What would you take it to be (opposite your regular partner, not just a pick-up), and what general structure (if any) does such a bid belong to? (i.e. is there a generic rule for you when a cue is a raise, stop ask or something else?) What about (1♥) – dbl – (pass) – 2♠ (pass) – 3♥? Thanks in advance.
  14. [hv=d=s&v=e&s=skxhxxdktxcaktxxx]133|100|Scoring: MP Auction proceeds: 1♣ - 1♦ 2♣ - 2♥ ?[/hv] 2/1 What should I bid?
  15. ♠ J72 ♥ Q9 ♦ AJ6 ♣ KJT84 MPs, both vul. (1♣) – dbl – (pass) - ? Opponents system: 4 card majors, weak NT
  16. How close are we getting to the next version of BBO flash?... I'm considering going out to buy PC emulation software pretty much solely for a fully-functional BBO and would hate to look silly if tomorrow BBO flash v3 is released :)
  17. But with vugraph you'd only ever commentate in one room, and play in neither? So you can log in once, and use the 2nd (anonymous) log in as a reference window, for say info how the other room's playing. The only problem I foresee is if you wanted to play on a normal table whilst commentating on another.
  18. I believe the problem is that you are unable to "log in" twice with the software. This is not really a problem and more of a safeguard imho. If you use BBOFLASH there is a button marked anonymous login, which will allow you to log in a second time if you are already accessing BBO with your username and password, whether it be via the client or BBOFLASH. Alternatively, use BBOTV, which only allows anonymous login (http://www.bbotv.com/vugraph/)
  19. Thanks everyone for a really interesting thread. For what it's worth I currently play acol with 2/1s promising a rebid unless opener rebids his opening suit. Often this is a simple (false) preference to opener's first suit, which is non-forcing. This has seemed to work out fine (all be it in the poor arenas it is tried in), but neither me nor my partner are good enough players to be sure that this is internally consistent. So therefore a question to players better than us (i.e. everyone) – does making a 2/1 forcing to 2NT have significant benefits over what we currently play?
  20. In the words of a good friend of mine: "3NT... it's gambling, ain't it?"
  21. Hi all, A complete disaster on the following board last night... I shan't own up to which seat I was in... 4 card majors, weak (12-14) NT... [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sj943hk3dakt32ca3&s=sahajdqj84ckq9542]133|200|Scoring: IMP 1♣ – 1♦ 1NT* – 3NT * 15-17[/hv] Constructive criticism please! :)
  22. We're getting dangerously close to food asking bids... http://www.bridgebum.com/fab.php
  23. In our regulations (EBU) it is interesting as one is meant to alert as to the partnership's agreements, even if that conflicts with one's own frame of reference... whilst bidding in one's own frame naturally. In these two problems I was ok because my frame of reference was our agreements!
  24. Hi, I was wondering if BBOflash (&BBOtv) had been deactivated? Both will load, but neither will let me past the login screen– I am left with a blue screen (that was usually quickly replaced by the main interface). Does this mean it's being updated? :) Ant.
