  2. [hv=d=s&v=e&n=sqhakt94da3caq743&s=sajt8653hdkqt875c]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] Which contract do you want to be in? Which contract do you reach in your chosen system? Full hand to follow...
  3. A terrible board on the duplicate MPs this evening.... who's to blame? [hv=d=e&v=e&n=sj763h653d43cq853&w=st542hk4dkqt975ct&e=sqhaj82da862ck974&s=sak98hqt97djcaj62]399|300|Scoring: MP (1♦) - dbl - (4♦) - pass (pass) - dbl - all pass[/hv] Result :+1, -910
  4. Bid to a truly appalling slam last night. [hv=d=e&v=n&n=sqtxhaxxxdxxca7xx&s=sxhkxdakqjxxcqt98]133|200|Scoring: MP (2♠) - 3♦ - (3♠) - dbl - (pass) - 5♣ - (pass) - 6♣ - all pass [/hv] Ace of spades is cashed, then another spade which everyone follows to and you ruff in hand. How are you going to play the trumps? [experts invisible please]
  5. Also, the placement of the "reset" button under "deal source" is too prominent - to me the position it's in is more in keeping with a confirm button, so a couple of times I've clicked there rather than just close the dialogue box.
  6. I second both of these. Even knowing partnership bidding was there, I couldn't find it and hand to come back to this forum thread to work out where it was. I agree. Mose constructively, I would add an option under the "help me find a game" tab. This was the first place I looked when I was trying to open a bidding table.

  8. Hi What are the symptoms? Clicking the button at a table does nothing ? I can't replicate the problem, so I expect it was my internet connection. When it happened I could see the LH-side of the window (i.e. the play of the current hand), but on the RH-side I could see my list of friends, but when I clicked on "my hands" all I got was a white space. I'll email support with more details if this happens again. Ant.
  9. "myresults" during a vugraph match seems not to be working. I'm using firefox 3.0.7 on Mac OS 10.5.6.
  10. I would think t/o, but only via the symmetry principle (I would expect advancer's balancing double to be t/o, so overcaller's should be too... usually). I don't feel strongly about this though.
  11. Of course. That's one reason I said I expect it would rarely happen. I've had it happen where the opponents have agreed when the director was present at the table, and then in their subsequent appeal denied any BIT. Alas despite a regular well-respected BBO forum poster chairing the appeal, this was not mentioned as a misdemeanour. I guess it's more difficult when angry players are present!
  12. I agree with Frances in that there is a huge difference between 'content knowledge' and 'pedagogical content knowledge', i.e. knowing what a backwash squeeze is, and knowing the best way to teach it. A good teacher needs to have both. The former is easier to determine (how many big events has someone won), but the latter is almost impossible for BBO to determine.
  13. Am I alone in playing the delayed double still as t/o of spades?
  14. I would have unassuming cue bids in my top 5, with the necessary corollary of weak jump raises in competition. I'm not sure if this is the same as a western cuebid (which I think I was told was a stop ask?).
  15. I learnt 2/1 initially from Hardy's book, which I personally enjoyed reading. There are a few differences between his approach and Lawrence's, and I think the latter author's version is more "standard".
  16. I played the following for a couple of years. I liked it then, but don't play it now: (1x) - pass - (1y) - dbl = 4/4 exactly 1NT = 5/4 either way 2x = 6/4 2y = 4/6 2NT = 5/5
  17. Yes this is fine under EBU rules. More evidence that the EBU would be better suited educating players as to the rules than pushing through P2P.
  18. On a related note, I'm presuming most expert partnerships play 2♦ as forcing here?
  19. Hell yeah! Our teammates played in the 1-1 fit as opposed to a 5-4 in a recent national event on this auction and played like stars to only go down three. Luckily on our table they (over?)bid to a spade slam off two, so a lack of discussion only cost 2 IMPs.
  20. As someone who does too, I would be interested in how you play (1♠) - 1NT - (pass) - 2♥
  21. This topic is kind of an extension of Haoni5's bidding problem in http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=29949 In short, what is 'expert standard' in the sequences a] 2♣ - (2x) - b] 2♣ - (3x) - c] 2♣ - (dbl) - d] 2♣ - (pass) - 2♦ - (2x) - I'm sure someone told me once that in a], b] and c] (re)double shows a weaker hand than pass, but I'm not so sure of the merits of this. Thanks. Ant. P.s. If it matters, our general sturcture after 2♣ is 2♦ = semi positive or better 2♥ = double negative 2♠ = 8-10 bal or 14+ bal 2NT+ = transfers showing a semi-solid suit or better (opener completes to set suit)
  22. Brilliant, this was on my wish-list. What would be even better would be a mix-and-match system like the Win client has, i.e. can select a combination of full, open, friends, stars. Also, I don't suppose there's a ETA for p-ship bidding yet is there? Thanks for all the hard work
  23. Locally we have about 50% playing Benji-Acol (2♣ and 2♦ both strong openers) 30% playing Acol (2♣ strongest, other 2-level bids strong) 15% playing Acol with three weak 2s All the above playing 4 card majors and a weak NT. Not many have a clear idea of how the bidding goes after one of their strong openings, but luckily they don't come up too often. Surprisingly almost a half play NFBs, but horrendously wide-ranging ones. There are the odd SA, no 2/1 that I am aware of and one WJ2000. There are also a pair playing Vienna Club... Just down the road in the next county we have 4 pairs playing Tarzan-style Symmetric relay one pair playing a strong diamond system a few playing 2/1 with gadgets with the remainder split as above.
  24. I guess someone might decide to randomize their 2/1 minor bids with 3=4=3=3 shape?
