http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer...6101-1271872201 A friend of mine was playing in a Robot tourney recently and the above happened 1D 2C X P 2D 3C 3H .......... and the 3H bidder held a 4 card suit and HELD 4 card diamonds .. I being a reasonable bidder cannot understand this auction as not being 5+ hearts and forcing ..well at least the 5+ heart piece .. Of course if an original 2H bid over 2C is natural and long and forcing then maybe the robot is allowed bid this way. However my friend indicated its bonkers and unfair to take money for a partner who bids like this. Friend is a budding player who manages 500 hands a week on BBO. The hand is in the link above .. A76 QT76 AJ86 Q8 I guess one can bid 3H based on the partner not having 4 card hearts ...but it seems bizarre to me .. Thanks Eamon Galligan eamongall on BBO

Ari Will the new and improved GIB improvements ever make it into the robots directory on our copy of Bridgebase Online or are the improvements only for the folk who enter robots races and the like. Should there be two different versions of GIB bidding database active ie the server based tourney one and the one that players who serve their own Gib tables use. I often mess with the DOS version of GIB (bridge.exe) but any bug report I might make could be obsolete due to the different versions that are on BBO server robots and BBO directory on our PCs. Thanks Eamon Galligan (eamongall) PS Of course Jack is a far better program these days for home use but one likes to see GIB and GIBSON chugging along. Currently GIBSON seems to come into play about trick 3 .. I wonder when home PCs become 20 GHz processor will GIBSON run from the start.

Folks and BBO expert users ... Is it possible for me to open a bidding table on the web based client and have two of my friends bid against robots. I tried this but it did not seem to work. The robots would not engage. I wanted to allow two of my friends to train without them knowing what scripts I was using . Any thoughts dears ... Bet you Matt Echognomer knows or Jason Chiu maybe

Here are a few scripts I made when requested by some strong Irish players for their practice .. You use them each separately as the 17+ point one seems to break everything else when I place them all together. I am not happy with the points script. Practice Code 1 ... the major suit fits with interference in EAST and opening in NORTH points = (hcp(south)+hcp(north)>21) and (spades(north)+spades(south) >=8 or hearts(north)+ hearts(south) >=8) and hcp(north) >=11 and (hearts(north) >=5 or spades(north) >=5) and hcp(east) >=11 and shape(east,any 6xxx,any 54xx,any 55xx) points Practice Code 2 .... Weak 2 North with East having 10 points weaktwospades = shape(north, 6xxx - any 0xxx) and hcp(north) >= 5 and hcp(north) <= 11 and hcp(north, spades) >= hcp(north)/2 and hcp(south) >=14 and hcp(east) >= 10 weaktwohearts = shape(north, x6xx - any x0xx) and hcp(north) >= 5 and hcp(north) <= 11 and hcp(north, hearts) >= hcp(north)/2 and hcp(south) >=14 and hcp(east) >=10 weaktwospades or weaktwohearts Practice Code 3 ... 11-16 balanced 1116bal= shape(north,any 4432,any 4333,any 5332,any 5422) and hcp(north) >=11 and hcp(north) <=16 and hcp(south) >10 and hcp(east) > 11 and shape(east,any 6xxx,any 54xx,any 55xx) and hcp(south) >= 6 1116bal Practice Code 4 ... 17+ and a pre empt in the EAST .. 17preempt= hcp(north) >=17 and hcp(east) >= 7 and shape(east,any 7xxx,any 6xxx) and hcp(south) >= 6 17preempt

The following hand occured at our recent national team championship's and I wonder if you would be good enough to ask the bidding panelists their views on what they might bid. N/S Vul N Dealer N E S W 1H 4S P ? You as West hold S T98 H void D AQJ32 C AJT76 Do you bid on? And if so, what do you bid? thanks Eamon Galligan

Ax, void, K10652, AJ8754 The bidding goes – you are Vul and opps not and you deal. 1C – 3H – P – P ? Whats your next bid Thanks Eamon Galligan

Good morning folks Last night I was thinking about the possibility/usability of Bridgebrowser in making a database of hands/bidding from vugraph matches. I had a quick look but could not see a way to import pbn files which is the standard way of saving bridge matches/hands. What I wanted to do was track hands played by the Ireland team over the last few years and compile some data on bidding effectiveness. We have loads of LIN files which are easily convertable to PBN or whatever format might be required. I am sure Stephen Pickett , the author can help me as regards Bridgebrowser but I am also interested in any other bridge database type tools that exist. I wanted to use vugraph lin files or say the Cayne matches as the standard here is exceptionally high. Any thoughts Thanks Eamonn Galligan (eamongall on BBO)

Folks I did not mean anything as offensive so I am sorry if I offended anybody. This hand has not cost me a thought all day but I can see the general view is that 3!H is enough on the hand so I am reeducated. However we must always remember that the typed word is written by the writer in his/her mode of thought and feelings which is almost always quite opposite to the reader of the same words. Visual and tone inflections are totally missing in forums and email etc. I also wondered if 2S was a correct bid in my comment as maybe this hand should be a middle of the road hand as opposed to strong or weak .. A final point ... Bridge is actually a wargame so things do get hurt ..lets see wheres those smileys :huh: :o ;) :lol: :D :P B) :unsure: <_< :( :ph34r: Anyway its all the guys fault who opened 1S with the 7 count and over and out :):) :blink: :angry: :) :) :unsure: Thanks Eamon Galligan

I think being a passed hand opposite the Michaels means any bid apart from 3H shows interest in going forward apart from the 3C bid to play in partners minor. Maybe this 16 count is meant to be an inbetween hand and not a strong hand as there is no way I can see this hand bidding twice with out some encouragement. 2N seems to me to be the way to show this encouragement protected by the fact that you are a passed hand. However I suppose one must be aware that those 10 hcp are under the opener but opener is a 3rd hander so may not have all the goodies. However a plus score is good and 3!Hs making will be a plus score. However I know Matt is a big blame hogger as opposed to a bridge player so no doubt he is in here trying to blame his pard for existing. Go Matt all 81 inches of him. B) :lol: I would bid 2NT but I would not have figured on all the hcp points being in openers hand. Bridge is serious .. life is a game .. Thanks Eamon Galligan eamongall

I can't remember how I played it, but I remember ruffing the diamond and taking a losing spade finesse. I believe a spade was returned. I took the losing club finesse and eventually was able to set up clubs. EW never forced in diamonds. I don't think I took the best line, but I somehow chalked up 450.

I think 1♦ and willing to rebid 4NT is perfectly acceptable as well. Unfortunately there was a sting in the tail. Partner lead an obvious ♦A and our declarer made 13 tricks. Most of the field was in 4♠+2, so we ended up with a below average score anyway. All I could do was shrug.

I said later that at teams I would lead a heart 100%. I can understand a heart lead working out better as well.

Denis .. I suspect GIB is still chugging away in the early part of the hand with 13 cards in each hand and no lead made. However once lead is made the GIB can analyze much quicker and possibly by the time you switch off and on GIB DD ..several tricks are gone and now it might be 6-7 cards per hand ending. Thanks Eamonn

Good evening folks I (eamongall) was involved in the Camrose broadcast. We eventually used 7 laptops. The hotel has an eircom hotspot and they charge 30 euro for a weeks access via a card system. Well it was 5 euro an hour or 15 euro for 24 hours or 30 euro a week. Therefore we paid 210 euro to cover 7 laptops.... 4 playing room and 2 vugraph room and our organiser used a laptop from time to time. So cost was 210 euros and I am sure if we were attentive we could sold on the remaining 4 days access to punters carrying laptop bags on Monday morning or Sunday night. Sorry to hear Hilton Hotel is charging so much. Does this mean if I stay for weekend in Hilton Hotel it costs me whatever number was quoted devided by 7 (assuming 7 laptops) so about 500 euros .. hmmmm No thanks Eamonn Galligan

Good morning folks I was just wondering is it possible or will it be possible to import hands for partnership bidding. OR can we set say a West Hand with certain hand and deal the rest using constraints. Another thing I would like to be able to do is import hands for Team Matches like you can in a Create Tournament but not possible right now. Any ideas on the above 2 items anybody? ? Thanks Eamon Galligan (eamongall)
