I have just discovered that when I click on an alerted bid in the handviewer, and the explanation is quite long, it maybe covers some cards of the north hand, and I did not find a way to remove the explanation except clicking on another explanation, provided there is any. Example was the McBruce disaster hand he just posted in another thread. Karl

I tried to use chat to give an url to my partner, but did not succeed because the url contained a ~ character. The ~ was replaced by a blank, thereby splitting the url. Karl

According to law 57, declarer could now chose to require LHO to play a low or high diamond or to forbid LHO to play a suit specified by declarer. If declarer requires diamond or forbids heart, he will lose a trick of course. If he forbids diamond, he will win both remaining tricks. If declarer choses not to require or forbid anything, it becomes relevant that the small diamond pitched by RHO is a penalty card now. Law 50.E defines that only the information that partner has to play the penalty card is allowed here. Other Information, in this case especially the fact that RHO has this card, is UI for LHO. Of course, it must now be decided by the TD if playing the top heart is a LA for LHO. What Justin writes suggests that it in fact was a LA for this specific LHO. The UI created by the penalty card makes it clearly more attractive pitch the top diamond, as he now can know that there are no other diamonds in play. Therefore, this alternative has to be avoided. If LHO nevertheless choses to pitch the top diamond and win the last trick with the top heart, the director will adjust the score. Of course, the director cannot directly force LHO to play a specific card if declarer waives his rights according to law 57, but the final result is the same. Karl

he already is back - I saw him playing in bbo, and his name was "Son of God"

Very sorry. I copied this law 27F from a file that I downloaded from ecatsbridge in 2007, at least I think that I got it from there. Maybe this was only a draft. Karl

Looks like it is not possible to accept the second insuffient bid. Karl

By assuming something, do I create a partnership agreement? No and never, because partner is not involved. There cannot be something like a single-sided agreement. This is different from partner having forgotten a specific convention in the past - this is something that partner knows, too, and therefore can be regarded as an agreement, and in this case I alert 2!D right before the double (or I rather do not play with that partner if I think he might have messed it up again). That I assume that partner forgot the system will for sure not come into his mind. Agreements, implicit or explicit, are all what I have to disclose. Therefore no Agreement --> no disclosure. There is something else. If you want me to disclose something after I see the double, not only my partner will know that I have diamonds, but opps will also know it. This means, I am disclosing something about my hand. No law can ever force me to do this, and if there is such a law, it should be made invalid by some high court right away. Karl

Gutes Argument, Roland.
Karl

I would never assume that my partner forgot the system, no matter what he plays with other partners. If the bidding sounds strange, I would think of some other explanations, chose the most likely one and bid accordingly. This way, the problem discussed here can never occur, and this is the best what can happen, because it is kind of unsolvable. If he afterwards confesses himself that he forgot the system, it is very unlikely that he will blame me for the bad result. Karl

Sorry, I did not try it. I always either did not kibitz at all, or, if I kibitzed, I did it until the end of the tourney and did not touch the results of other boards before that. Before I start kibitzing everything is ok, of course. Karl
-
Exactly. When I was kibbing at another table of the same tourney, the problem always occurred, and when I was at no table when the tourney finished, there has never been such a problem. Karl
-
A list of unfinished boards would really be nice. However, if there are so many unfinished boards that you really need the list, maybe you should have rather added some time for the round before it finishes. Karl
-
If I have finished playing in a tourney and kib at the last table until the tourney really ends, I can see my scores for the boards and the travellers of each board, but the display of the current hand below the list never changes - the last board of the tourney is displayed all time. I was able to reproduce this in several tourneys. Karl

I do hear a sound when it is my turn to play and when I receive a private chat. Maybe those who do not hear it should try a higher volume level? Karl
-
Even if you think that partners at the same location cheat more than all others who can easily chat with skype, you cannot take the ip for identifying them, because some providers are short of ip addresses and therefore multiplex several customers on one ip address. This type of checking should be done by the abuse team, and maybe they already do it. Maybe they also routinely check players with good results and a player with the same ip is kibbing in the same tourney. Karl
-
Maybe the problem is easier to understand if you state that the given hands are located South.

Had there been played a second !C trick before you got your !DA? In this case, you would have revoked and declarer gets another trick. Karl

Karl

I also noticed that some random player becomes host when the former host leaves. I guess this is not intended by BBO. Karl

About hand editor and and teaching tables I tried this an succeeded. Some remarks: In the hand Editor, I twice lost the first hand that I produced, because I clicked on "Back" or "Close". There was no warning. The problem was that there was no obvious "Save" button. I finally found it under "Options", but it is only visible there when the complete deal is there, and I had checked the options before and therefore "knew" that the save button was not there. I would prefer the suits in the middle to be in the normal order, and not Clubs above Diamonds. I did not manage to use the keyboard for inputting cards as it was possible in the windows client, which is usually faster than clicking. I got the impression that once one has selected the dealer, it is not possible to change this if it was a misclick. The board numbers can be selected only from 1 to 16, so I have a problem if you want to correctly label a board 23 that I took from a ftf tourney. I am aware that I can subtract 16 and get a board number with the same properties. When selecting boards for a teaching table, they can only be processed in the order in which they were stored. After a board has been played, "Redeal" invokes the next board of the set, and there is no way to reload the current board like in the Windows client. I did heavily use this when teaching, and it is the feature I miss most. When this will be implemented, maybe provide 2 buttons: "Reset to start" and "Reset to start of play", keeping the auction. A further improvement would be to provide the teacher with a switch that controls if the players can see only their own cards or all cards. In the windows client, this could be achieved by having the players stand up from their seats and then reload the board. However, this causes the hand to rotate for all but South. Sorry if some of this was mentioned before, but I did not read all of the previous threads. Karl

Looks there is one issue that was overlooked by all: Opps bid 3nt. So they should have at least 25 points. I (West) have 12 points. So there are only 3 points left for my partner. Which 3 points? Suppose he has ♥K. Then declarer has ♦K. In this case, declarer would not risk to play the clubs, but simply cash his 9 tricks. So declarer must have the ♥K, and partner maybe has the ♦K. Therefore it is a good idea to continue ♠, hoping the ♣ suit is not sufficient for declarer to get his 9 tricks. Looking at it in this way, the ♠ play by West in trick 4 is totally sane, and his only chance to set the contract is by a ♥ lead. The bidding without any alert suggested that North has an ♥ stopper. This should be quite a good stopper, as North knows that he should be able to deal with a lead through his stopper. If South has the stopper, it can be lighter, and so it is more likely that West will lead ♥ if he knows correctly who has the stopper. Furthermore, the fact that North asks for a ♥ stopper makes it more likely that he has a ♠ stopper, because with no major stopper at all he probably might have passed or bid 4 of a minor. This consideration makes a ♠ lead less attractive, given that 3♥ was alerted. After winning the lead with ♥K, East will see the dummy and no doubt continue with ♥, which makes it easy for West to collect 5 tricks. So the score to assign is 100% 3nt-1. This ruling does not take into account that East maybe would have doubled the 3 ♥ bid if it was alerted. I see no reason not to believe East. To double can only be harmful for E/W if opps chose to play 3!H doubled and make. But this is close to impossible, because the bidding suggests that South has less than 4 ♥ cards and North cannot have much, too, if he asks for a stopper. But if you assume the double, the result would be the same, so the question if there might be a double is simply irrelevant.

Law 71 footnote says: For the purposes of Laws 70 and 71, “normal” includes play that would be careless or inferior for the class of player involved. So e.g., with 2 cards left to play in nt, if you have an A and a K in different suits, it would be not normal to play the K first. Karl

After I read this I tried it out. The handling is much better than in the old interface. Here is what I observed in detail: 1. I forgot to check "Barometer". As most tourney hosts have barometer on, I would suggest that this should be the default. 2. When the tourney started, I was not informed about the sitouts. Ok, I found out about them myself very quickly. 3. When kibitzing at a table, I did not have the option to talk to the tourney, unless I used the td controls. 4. When accepting a td call it was removed from the list. I would prefer that it is removed from the lists of the other tds only, but remain on my list. More precisely, there should be 3 lists: requests not yet answered requests closed requests answered but not yet closed The last list contains the case I am currently working on, and could contain tables where I still have to make an adjustment or the like, but there are currently more urgent problems to take care of. Only when a request is fully solved, the td should change the status to closed. 5. I see no point in sending each request to a specific director, as you described in your initial announcement of the new version. Rather, each new call should appear in the lists of all tds, and the first who clicks on the request owns it from then on. 6. The way the tourney status is shown is nearly exactly the same as in the old client, and there are still not all tables shown that play in a given round. I would prefer that in the list of tables there is an additional column with the boards number that is currently played there. I guess that this information might not only be interesting for tds, but also for normal kibs. 7. When the tourney was over, the result was not shown to me, and I found no way to retrieve it with the Flash client. Of course it is no problem to use myhands. Karl
