ruff diamonds before heart finesse, something like: ♦A, ♦ruff, ♠A, ♦ruff, ♣A, ♦ruff, ♣K, ♥finesse, ♥AK, ♠T
-
Tough problem, it depends on the location of ♣K. If LHO has the ♣K, then RHO double must be based on ♦AJTx. If RHO has the ♣K, then LHO has overcalled with ♠Kxxx + ♥Axxxx. I think it is more likely that the ♣K is with LHO, because RHO might have bid 3♠ with a hand like: ♠xxxx ♥x ♦Axx ♣Kxxxx So I rise with ♠Q and run the ♦7, but it may be a disaster.
-
OK, I believe LHO has the ♠Q, but how many spades does he have? I think it is less likely for him to hold 3 spades, because that would leave 10 cards in the minors for RHO. So I play spades from the top, winning if LHO has ♠Q singleton/doubleton.
-
The club lead looks like a singleton, so with trumps 3-1 it is unlikely to set up clubs. I also have to avoid 2 club ruffs and lead ♦ twice from the dummy. To avoid 2 club ruffs, the hearts have to split 2-2 or RHO must have singleton J/Q. So I start with a high heart, now if RHO plays ♥Q/J I play a diamond otherwise I play a second round of trumps. A spade at trick 2 is not so good and not ruffing the club return is careless.
-
♥A, ♦A, spades. Making if spades 3-3 or 3rd round is ruffed with ♦K.
-
Throw a club. if [di] is ruffed then I play for [he]K doubleton/singleton onside else [di]Q wins then [he]J [space] [space] [space] [space] if [he] finesse looses then [sp]3-3 or [cl]finesse [space] [space] [space] [space] else [he]J covered then I win and play [he]Q [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] if [he] 3-2 I can ruff a [sp] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] [space] else low [he] and [sp]3-3 or [cl]finesse

The defenders also have communication problems if opener holds ♥AQJ + ♠K + ♣K. After a heart lead, the opener is thrown in. Lets say LHO leads a ♥ to our king, then we can unblock ♦ and play ♥9. After cashing the hearts he must lead a black suit and we will be in the dummy.

I like my hand very much, so I bid 3♥. After all 3NT has a play if partner has 5♦ + ♠Q + ♣Q or it may be 5♦ if he has 6♦ + ♠J + ♣Q. I only pomissed a good 18 and partner won't bid 3NT with 2 queens. I think the hand is more worth than a 2NT rebid. If partner has nothing than 4♦ wil be down, but I don't think they will double and 3♦ may also be down.
-
Bidding (pass) - 1♠ - (pass) - 1NT; (pass) - 2♦ - (pass) - 3♠; (pass) - 4♠ - a.p.

I would take the ♠A. If the finesse works there is no need to take it and I can make the contract if LHO has a singleton ♣J/Q. Then lead the ♣9 and run it if it is not covered. If it is covered take it with the ♣K, play a club to the 7. I don't know if this is the best line. I may be 6 down if I loose the first club to RHO and the ♠K is with LHO. Maybe the best line is to take the ♠ finesse and duck a ♣ to RHO. If the finesse works I get 10 tricks, if it looses I make 7 tricks. It is hard to calculate the IMP profit/loss.
-
I endplay LHO. I can endplay RHO only because LHO discarded his ♦s (and squeezed his partners exit). I don't believe LHO holds on to 2 worthless ♥s, because he discarded his first ♦ before the dummy or his partner could discard.
-
I don't like the 5♠ by south. Will partner bid 7♥ with a hand like: x Axxxxx AKx xxx If partner bids 6♦, will south bid 7♥ not knowing about the ♦K? I think 7♥ will not be reached after a 5♠ bid. Maybe the best approach is asking for keycards and then kings. Then south will know what to do.
-
I would play: Win the spade lead and ruff a spade, then ♦A. If the ♦J drops, then ♣AK, ♦T, ♠K discarding a club and ruff a ♣ high. If the ♦J does not drop, then play for a ♣♠squeeze.
-
1.Not to me. I think the hand is too good for 3♣ though 4♣ is not good at MP. After 3NT by partner I might consider 4♣ (as a slam try). It is not clear, so you must pass I guess.
-
I think there is no reason to play an active defense. Declarer can not get rid of any loosers, there is no useful discard or squeeze/endplay possible. So duck the spade (who knows?) and keep playing hearts, to give nothing away.
-
At IMPs I think the winning line is building 2 spade tricks and a simple ♥ finesse. So win the lead, play a spade to the king. Win the return, ♥ to the queen and a spade from the dummy. RHO has to play ♠9, so win queen and play back ♠8. From the bidding and the lead you know how the spades are divided, so it only takes the ♥K onside. It is not to hard to figure it out at the table.
-
North - South are playing Swedish club, so opener is showing about 14-16 HCP. Still I wouldn't DBL on the second round.
-
The system description is not clear (to me) So my guess about 1♣ -1♦ - 2♣: a. 15-17, 6♣ or 5♣ + 4♦ b. 18+, 5♣ + 4♦/♥/♠
-
I hope declarer has ♥Ax and partner a usefull Jack.
-
Strange play by the declarer, he should have ducked the first heart. And then ♦A, ♦Q? I would have played a spade.
-
3NT. Sure you may miss a good 5-3 fit, if you can't bid your fragment. But 3NT should not be uneasonable if partner bids NT twice. Shaping out may also help the defense, with the lead.
-
You can play a simple conventional follow up after 1M - 1NT; 2m - 2NT: 3m = MIN, 5-5 3om = MAX, 5-5 3M = MIN, 6-4 3OM = MAX, 6-4 With this hand you probably get to 4♥. It is almost impossible to bid 5♦ if partner rebids 2NT.

Hi Fred, Have done some experiments. I think the problem is the number of dispositions. The new dispositions are saved as "10", "11", "12" etc. When the file is read again after startup, FD only reads the first postion so "1" and the rest "0", "1", "2" is read as description.
-
I cannot seem to replicate this problem. Is it possible that you have more than one version of FD on your PC and an old version is messing this up? Is anyone else having trouble with the new dispositions? Fred Gitelman Bridge Base Inc. www.bridgebase.com I have only 1 version, bidedit (1.07) in c:\program files\full disclosure. I have always upgraded it with every new version.
