Considering how long it took to add the functionality for annotating we'll expect this in two to three days.

Fred/Any other brilliant people, Any suggestions as to how best to start to show one line of play and then back up a few tricks and show an alternate line of play? Thanks.

Single/Double Dummy Problem sets?
G_R__E_G replied to HeavyDluxe's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Here is a link to Richard Pavlicek's site that has some amazing double dummy puzzles but unfortunately no analysis. That said, with some perserverance even a beginner can figure them out as they are only 5 card endings. http://www.rpbridge.net/9p01.htm -
Your "myhands" will not change. What changes is what happens when you watch a movie from it - it now should be via your web browser. Very cool Fred!!! Having all of the hand info in the link will make editing hands a breeze. I've had a look and figured most of it out - now you'll just need to teach me how to add comments.

How long have you been playing?
G_R__E_G replied to jillybean's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
We're in a small town and have very reasonable rent for our location. That together with the facts that we're a not-for-profit club and many of our members volunteer to help in many ways, has allowed us to keep our card fees that low. Our annual membership is only $10 as well which is much cheaper than I've seen elsewhere. -
How long have you been playing?
G_R__E_G replied to jillybean's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Cool topic Jilly. I learned some stuff from a book but only played on a computer game about 20 years ago. I started playing online a little bit about 8 years ago (first rubber bridge on Pogo until I got introduced to BBO). My job at the time involved being on the road away from home so the thought of playing at a club just didn't make sense to me. Eventually when my position changed and I was home at night I called our local duplicate club and got matched up with a partner. That was 4 1/2 years ago. I'm now a certified director, the club manager, the club's webmaster and I just need a few more gold points to get my LM (I don't get to many tournaments). This game doesn't grow on you at all, does it? -
Ruling the Game-is this alertable?
G_R__E_G replied to mike777's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
In regards to the main question; doubles are only alertable if they have "highly unusual" meanings*. A double of an opening of one of a minor being take-out with emphasis on the majors is certainly not highly unusual. If partner is forbidden to answer in the other minor then maybe I could see it being alertable. People complaing about things like this and similar things being alertable really annoy me. I've even heard people say that if you "ever" open 1NT with a singleton that your 1NT openings should be alerted. These things are all a matter of style, if opponents want all of the gory details then they need to ask. If each and every nuance of every bid was alerted and explained at the table we'd need 15 minutes per board. *Source -

These calls about car warranties that are going around right now are not only spam - they are in fact a scam. There was an article in our local paper a week or two ago about it. Basically they will sell you a warranty on any car (they start by talking about your new car's warranty but if you say you don't have a new car then they offer it on whatever car you have) but the warranty is useless. These automated systems that dial out will connect with an operator that is available in their call centre, my guess is that the call the OP got somehow got misdirected to the wrong spot in their call scripts. Since they are criminals they won't give you contact information and they obviously won't have any respect for do not call lists.

I'm looking to start a team league in our ACBL sanctioned club and I'm looking for suggestions on how best to run it, specifically in regards to ACBL Score. What I want to do is run a complete round robin followed by a knockout where the number of boards played will be higher in the finals than they are in the earlier rounds. Something to this effect; eight teams play seven 12 board round robin matches, two per night. On the 4th night after one round is complete we then pair off 1st vs 8th etc and play 16 board quarterfinals. On a subsequent night we play semi-finals (probably 24 boards) and then finally another night where 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th are contested (with 1st/2nd possibly playing 28 boards). Any suggestions how best to handle this in ACBL Score (and of course format suggestions are welcome too). Thanks.

My first instinct is the smart ass reply of "L". Of course, my first instinct is most often the smart assed response. That said, upon further thought I'm going with ... .

I was told this many years ago, although the reason that I was told for the balls falling was that they would shrink and become slightly non-spherical due to imperfections in the metal.

This too -
With my regular p I open 3NT showing the equivalent of a 4m bid. Otherwise, 4♦.

July 17th is the first day of the NABC - I'm thinking Justin might be a bit busy to be posting that day. I'll go for August 8th.

On a somewhat related topic - Asus is currently launching an XP version of the EEE. It is available in Canada as of tomorrow - I'm not sure about other countries.

The OP did not mention the quality of the chili - that was only speculation on my part. For all I know it could have been a horrible bowl of chili, which could also make it memorable. Also, he was in a restaurant at the time so I'm sure there were no goats present - that would be a health code violation. PS I'm attempting to remember what I had for dinner last night and I'm having no success.
-
Wow, I'm just amazed that it had such an impact on you that you still remember what you were eating and where. Mind you, a good bowl of chili can be quite memorable all on its own.

The hand shown is actually 7-5 with 14 cards in it. -
Maybe this is him: http://www.math.harvard.edu/archive/21a_su...ndouts/cobb.pdf Oops - just read the text - that's Douglas.

I think you mean Charles Cobb: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobb-Douglas

I've had it happen at my table three times in the last few months but before that I cannot remember it ever happening. The coolest one was a few months back where on the same hand we had a wish trick and I got the beer card as declarer too.

Sorry for omitting some details - form of scoring was matchpoints. I believe we were white on white, but I don't have that information with me at the moment. For what it's worth, I agreed with the majority of posters and felt the hand was worth a game force and bid 2♠. Partner then went to 3NT, which as it turns out did not work out very well. That was my reason for posting (but I wanted unbiased opinions so did not give the results). The comments at the table were that I shouldn't have reversed with that hand. I disagreed - but hey what do I know, we only finished with a 69% game. :)

Playing standard, what would you rebid (and why) after opening 1♥ and partner responding 2♣? ♠KJxx ♥KQTxx ♦A ♣Jxx

If you were playing a robot race you cannot compare to other participants. In a robot race you each get random hands to play.
