  1. Would you balance 3♥ on x AQxxxx xxx Axx Yes I would. Ok, so you and Ben are allowed to pass 2♥ hum.. wait, I seem to remember you saying in another thread that 3♥ showed 12-15 and 6 cards. I take it you count aces as 5 points? I don't understand the question 1♠ - p - p - 3♥ is indeed 12-15 with 6 cards to me The hand you post has 10hcp, is there some confusion about how to count or are you mixing apples with bananas? Luis
  2. Depends on where you live. I've seen 9-12 up to 13-16. Yep but more or less the same idea.
  3. Would you balance 3♥ on x AQxxxx xxx Axx Yes I would.
  4. Downgrade a 1NT opening? how crazy is that in modern bridge? Everybody opens 1NT with anything remotely similar to 1NT so the winning bet is to open 1NT often.
  5. Drink a cup of tea, the ruling is egregious. But things like that happen all the time. At least you were not accused of playing a satanic system and destroying the fun of the game (accusations that I normally see).
  6. 2♦, 12-15 with 5 diamonds. I disagree completely with 1NT with an unbalanced hand.
  7. Hi Cherdano! Thanks for the nice problems! 1: Easy pass. 2: 4s, I like the shapish hand to play 4♠ 3: Dbl, XX is a debatable call but once you XX you have to X 2♣ 4: Pass, I'm NV and 3♦ will make. 5: 3NT lead please. 6: 3NT Luis
  8. Cards, value-showing. Luis
  9. When you have a balanced hand bid it as a balanced hand 2♣ - 2♦ 2NT Etc. It's simple :-0
  10. I like them both. Keep preempting and they will mark you as an undesirable opponent :-)
  11. Just forget it, it's a team match and the guy was a sub, missclicked, was too proud to ask for an UNDO and when it ended in a disaster he wanted to undo.
  12. Finally somebody saying something sensate! Gee I thought everybody had gone crazy.
  13. I bid 4♣ before leading.
  14. 1♠ automatic, two defensive tricks. Luis
  15. Nope, here only a diamond lets 3NT make anything else works fine.
  16. Doesn't look very likely, pd overcalled 2♦ and passed 4♠, you have nothing in spades, your RHO raised FREELY to 2♠ when he could have passed 2♦, certainly doesn't look like a 500 deal.
  17. That is why a redouble can be around the corner being NV vs V if you are quite sure that 4♠ makes or goes down 1 in the worst scenario a redouble is very interesting, in your worst scenario you convert -100 in -200 and in your best scenario you get a bunch of imps.
  18. Double, defensive values Qxx of spades, Qx of diamonds, 2 tricks in clubs... And not enough trumps for 5♥ over 4♠ Luis
  19. Actually, I also missed the point it was MPs. At MPs you might not wish to double, on grounds that if they go down you'll get a good score anyway, while if they make it, it's a rock-bottom. At IMPs it's ok to risk the occasional 4♠ X just made (couple imps lost), to try and get a substantial set (loads imps) if opps are overbidding. Of course, it may happen they redouble and you're kinda in trouble, but they would never redouble if you double with conviction  Substantial what? You have a math problems At Imps If double is wrong from 420 to 590 lose 5 imps from 450 to 690 lose 6 imps and if they redouble you lose a zillion imps If double is wrigth From 50 to 100 you win 2 imps From 100 to 300 you win 5 imps And if you think 500 is possible here I strongly doubt it. Substantial win of imps? What?
