1. I pass 4♥ I doubt this is worth a move and I think I found a healthy contract so I let it be. 2. Worth a move? Hell yes, I would bid 4♠ directly! 3. 2♥ has to be constructive so I will bid 3♦ now asking for a stopper to play 3NT from the right side. 4. Time to bid 4♣ It can't hurt. (A stronger move) 5. 3♥ nothing spectacular but worth the try. Luis

I think a diamond is the only option here. Luis

Your partner never has Ax and RHO both the King and the Q? Nope, never happened.

I like 1NT the shape is right, the values are right and Jxx is a stopper. The empiric demonstration of why Jxx is a stopper is that every time I have bid NT with Jxx as a stopper nothing bad has happened. Quite scientific isn't it?

Well I must say I like to watch and/or play almost any sport... Well being from Argentina Soccer is of course a must, love to watch, can play but I should probably retire soon :-). We might organize a match of bridge players if we ever meet in a tournament :-) Then American Football, I'm a huuuuge Packers fan, probably the most southern Packer fan in the world (disputed with some Aussies). Go Pack! Table Tennis is fun to play. Tennis is fun, we have a local variation here called "Paddle" don't know if you know that in your contries but it's fun too and I like to play it. Last year in a tournament I tried a 10 hour bus ride during night without sleeping got to the hotel and then 2 hours of Paddle with 97F at noon. Then a big lunch and guess how I played in the first section at night? :-) Don't try that at home

Any card face down on the table Because it's not my lead.

#1: 1NT #2: This has to be a joke. 2♣ is automatic. Luis

Support?? Since when is giving preference the same as support, Luis? It's almost always a doubleton on this auction. Roland Words.... Is "I don't want to give preference to hearts with 6 spades" better for you? Luis
-
1) 2♠ natural and healthy. I don't want to support hearts with a bad doubleton when I have 6 spades. Why would I want to do such a thing? 2) 4♣ automatic, can't see the problem. Problem? Problem where are you? Luis

Anything from Asimov. Specially the Fundation series. Anything from Crichton, I liked "State of Fear" a lot recently. Dan Brown's books are good too. Rendezvous with Rama is also a great book. And any bridge book around there.

+1 for Gerben's scheme is simple and natural. Luis

Takeout and Takeout of course. I'm tempted to bid 6♠ but I can't mastermind the auction So 4♠ Luis

In your posted hand I would bid 4♦ Did you mean 2♦ multi? because a multi 1NT is not yet teh fashion trend here :-) 1♥ Dbl Rdbl Pass I have agreed with my pd that a pass over 1m x xx is no preference but a pass over 1M x xx is "I would have passed 1hx" so this is for penalties to me. I will bid something as if the redouble didn't exist when I have a hand that wouldn't have passed 1hx 2♦* Dbl Rdbl Pass This is "I have diamonds" 2♥* Dbl Rdbl Pass This is "I would have passed 2♥x" 3♥ Dbl Rdbl Pass This is "I would have passed 3♥x"

A diamond to the King will always win the trick no matter who has the diamond ace...
-
If you play a diamond to the King that will hold no matter who has the diamond ace. I don't know where you live but vulnerable opponents who hold a combined 18 hcp count don't enter the bidding a lot in my country.
-
For the ones interested the bidding was 2♥ by south, and north invited to play 4♥ and south gladly accepted. That's why I didn't post the bidding, nothing to get from the auction. One of the top players come out and said "the only way to start was to play a diamond to the King at trick 2" while another one said "I think running the spade jack first is better" the discussion quickly heated. Then people started to take sides but no side could give a logical explanation about why one line was better than the other. The interesting question is who was right without subjectivities.

Puppet to 2NT to show a hand with a 4 card major and a 5 card minor and invitational values. 3m directly over the Stayman response is then forcing with a 5 card minor, generally a slam try since you don't make a transfer with only 5 cards.

[hv=n=sj2hq963dt32caqj4&s=skt8hat852dkq85c7]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 4♥ without opponents bidding. The lead is a club and you win the Ace in dummy. Now at the local club there're two bands, one says to play the spade Jack from dummy the other band says lead a diamond towards KQ. Which line do you take in 4♥ and why? Luis

Assuming you play a strong club system Then once you alert 1♠ as "11-15" limited with 5+ spades I think there is no reason to then alert 4♠ since the meaning of 4♠ is "I want to play 4♠" If you are asked you can say that the 4♠ bid can be based in strength or length or several thingsd but you don't have an agreement about 4♠ that you have to alert you bid 4♠ when you think 4♠ is a good bid facing a 1♠ opening. Or is there something wrong with my reasoning? Luis

Some people say that a crazy player fits well with a solid pd for some reason the only players that has caused me chemical problems are the very solid ones. I remember a very good player that played with me once decided not to open 1♦ with a 12 count. His bids were Pass (decided not to open 1♦) 1♠ XX (to show values) X (takeout) 3♣ (a cuebid) 4♥ So instead of opening 1♦ he decided that to show his hand he had to make a redouble, a takeout double then a cuebid and then raise to 4♥ Somehow I don't like this approach Luis

Pass I like to avoid disaster

To the 1♦ openers I wish you luck in your 1♦ contract but you probably don't need it :-)

Any decent player will open this hand.
