Maybe, but is the story true or made up?
-
Been working in Australia for the past 8 hours. On Chrome.
-
It's unlikely - I don't think I have a device to be left to.
-
Because otherwise, it would be a Tisasder. How long did it take to work out what nullve meant?
-
South opened.

Apparently, Wests double tells East that West is holding "3-5♣; 3-5♦; 3-4♥; 2-♠; 13+total points". For reasons that make no sense to me all the other tables landed in 2HW+2 - go figure. [/hv]

That's very helpful. OK, if there's an earthquake, death in the family, the election of a buffoon to be President, or a sudden outbreak of Rabies then yes, sure, take a break. btw how much do you weigh? On the one hand, I'm hearing that we must get back to the club because it's social and in the same breath I hear complaints about coffee-housing etc. Which side of the teaspoon do you fall on?

The problem of creating a Bridge clock was solved by the Stepbridge platform years ago. You have a certain amount of time to play 3 boards, and if the 3rd board is not on the table before the 5-minute mark, the computer assigns 40/60 or -3/+3 to the pair that consumed the most time. There are no complaints because no person is involved. When you claim, if the opps try to run the clock, you simply keep playing, so the decision is on their time (a facility oddly not available on BBO). My only gripe is that the system isn't per board in the same way it is in chess. If the board is not completed, then the penalty should equal the lowest score of the slowest pair so they cannot 'game the system'. In Chess, of course, you get a zero. After all, being able to work things out under time pressure is part of the game. It's not the same as a fun run where you get a certificate by reaching the finish line. The argument about internet connections is also specious. If you run out of time, you run out of time. The reason is unimportant. Do you get extra time in an examination because: "I was thinking", "it was a difficult problem", "I had to go to the bathroom", "The person behind me was making annoying noises".

When I finished high school research looked like a good choice. And it was. Every decade that followed publications where Australia was included as an Affiliation Country the start to the end of decade percentage of papers either stayed the same or increased. In the last decade, it collapsed to 1970's levels.

Which is the reason why it is a good idea to not permit anonymity on BBO. If people were required to use their real names so that they could be tracked then this kind of behaviour would be much easier to police. I note that many of the people that write here and play on BBO using pseudonyms are happy to write under their real names on Bridgewinners. They also seem to yearn for platforms where video images of players are required (Realbridge). I don't wear a disguise when I do anything else. Allowing avatars and nicknames promotes racism, misogyny and rudeness. There's enough of it in real life without making it easier online.

What did Dr. stand for?

GIB plays Cappelletti in a very undisciplined way. 5/4 Major/minor is common.
-
Stepbridge (a Dutch Bridge site) uses T and so does the KNR hand evaluator.

Fixed My Post - sorry.

It was played by 11 people - in 3+ hearts - nobody made it. 5 made 3H-1 and the other 6 did less well. [/hv] Here's the complete hand

Ger10rude S10ein was mocking the sameness of a painter called Rose; a person whose work she held in contempt.

My favourite Italian dessert is Zabaglione. It stands out from the pack (imho) because it is so hard to make at home. This means that you have an additional pleasure in finding an Italian restaurant that can make one. As an alternative to actually eating Italian one can also read any of the Montalbano detective books. Salvo will have you salivating instantly.

How does this explain Jordan Peterson?

It will come as no surprise to anyone that there is now an academic literature and a 'disbelief scale' in relation to COVID19. This paper discusses religiosity and fear on intent to vaccinate: https://bit.ly/COVID19disbelief

At this point, I thought that West was cue-raising my spade/minor bid to show a good hand with heart support. My partner (so I thought at the time) didn't like my spades and wanted to know about my minor. With simple auctions this usually works fine, but as things get more complicated things sometimes gang aft agley.[/hv]

The mypillow guy is psychotic. His brain has been addled by years of crack addiction. He gets by because he has a lot of money, which seems to be enough to make people think he is talking sense. If he wasn't a wealthy Manchester salesman his concerned relatives would have sought professional help for him years ago. The trouble with the MPG is that his money allows him to get the oxygen of the media to fan the flames of his madness. It is a fact that many people are unaware of, that you cannot 'talk' people out of a delusion. They do not wake up one morning and say "Oh bother Tigger, I've been a bit silly". It's not like he's a Beginner at Bridge who can acquire and synthesise new information and realise that things he is saying or doing are pants and then change. He's as silly as a wheel, a sandwich short of a picnic, as mad as a hat and has a kangaroo running around in the top paddock. Tragically, the media from all sides of the political spectrum enjoy giving him airtime because (A) he pays for it and (B) people enjoy listening to it (I know I do). We have the same kind of people in high office in Australia: they think they know what they are doing, they're convinced of it and nothing you say or do will affect any change - and that's just the Prime Minister. PM Morrison when told that a staff member was accused of rape only thought that it was something that ought to be investigated when - after discussing it with his wife - "Mr Morrison said the announcement of a review into workplace culture at Parliament House was prompted by a discussion with his wife, and after considering how he, as a father, would want his daughters to be treated." - oh! I have daughters? What bugs me is when people that aren't crazy start conversations along the lines of "Well the reason he's saying that is ...(insert clever rationalisation here). Those people are also wrong. People like the MPG have a fixed genuine unshakeable delusion that they know what's right. They've already jumped off the ledge. You can talk to them on the way down but in the end, when they hit the ground we all suffer. In Australia, our Fox news is called Skynews (still run by Rupert). I recently saw a video clip where the interviewee (referred to as "Professor Cox") explains that his principal experience is that he doesn't have any. You can watch the whole thing here: http://bit.ly/CoxFairfax When you believe that a lack of knowledge, training and professionalism is a qualification to manage a PLC you can believe anything - that's how Trump became President. People are brought up to believe that if they try really hard they can do anything. It simply isn't true. They can't - there's always someone better - usually a lot of them.
