  1. Thank you, Fred! Will do something about this, then.
  2. My laptop got burned so I had to switch to the veteran windows box accompanied by an ancient monitor that doesn't even support 800x600. Result - error in installing BBO and impossible to log into the site. Should I wait until I am able to have the laptop replaced and/or buy a new monitor - like, in a couple of years' time? Is it possible to download and use an older friendlier BBO version? Thanks. Elena P.S. Guess the right term is "monitor" not display... Anyway, it went up in smoke :(((
  3. It is rather late so I guess a bit of plagiarising is Ok... First off, an expert is an expert is an expert is..... Used to be scared; went thru the "did you like to pull cats' tails way back?" stage; love to learn but sometimes negative experience is just as precious (for character building and bridge-burning purposes; hardly constructive for bridge learning, however); it is always TOO late to say BIG THANK YOU to the people - experts big and not so - who have helped you... In other words "others" seemed like the only way to capture a mixed bag of feelings, experiences and attitudes. Second, what's in a name, hence what is an "expert"? Uday's definition is hardly viable, "common sense" definition is always already subjective and easier to psychoanalyse than pinpoint so where does that get us? Third... huh... Life is very short for fussing and fighting... Pity ego-trips take at least two to be a fulfilling experience; without them there would be much less collateral damage and much more fun playing but I might be wrong. Anyway, hate to play with an unknown expert at an indy. Unless in a pranky mood (just in case). Until the criteria for an "expert" are clear-cut, playing with one is like playing a russian roullette: if you know him/her and you like him/her, it might be fun and no precautions would be necessary; if you don't - well, then it's pot-luck. Either way, for what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn? B)
  4. ♥appy birthday, ♦ear MIS♥O!
  5. Hi, Zar et al. :) The link you gave shows something else; your article is in on of the bulletins (scroll down a bit guys). http://www.jcbl.or.jp/nec2004/bulletins/blt5.pdf Don't forget to have a great day! Elena
  6. I voted - though not sure I should have (yes, of course it's Fred's and Uday's decision!), not sure I am in the right category to be asked (because I speak English and do not need the translation) and last but not least - the question that is maybe just as important: "will you volunteer to hep with the translation into your own language". Maybe Uday can be spared some programming - there are free software products that can be used for localisation; volunteers can download and take it from there. Whatever you decide, guys - woiuld be happy to help. Keep the great work but pls be selfish from time to time - it's healthier! :D
  7. Maybe the thread's title should be changed to Never Ending Story :o Chicken, bridge is more interesting than this! Why not join the Club? There is a great Beginner/Intermediate novice-friendly club with regular free lessons; then thereare 2 absolutely fantastic self-study guides which you can download also for free from the www.bridgebase.com site (look for Learn to Play Bridge, part 1 and 2). Come and have fun :o
  8. OK Lex - for future ref I play texas is ON over any enemy interference up to 3NT. It's up to you and your partner/s, Joe. Thank you for the advice about Lebensohl - it requires some more time, though - and I believe we discussed this before as well.
  9. Joe, the isuue here is not the actual bidding - the problem is how you play texas (pls read the email you sent). As to the actual bidding - I said at the table yesterday that you were right about my wrong decision to remove the double.
  10. Thnx Flame - I play them the way you suggest. I (try to) use the treatments suggested in Lawrence Conventions disk M. Hardy's Adv bidding for the 21st c which are pretty much what everyone plays, I guess. Partner, however, was adamant that this is wrong.
  11. Thnx, Misho! 1) No agreement but partner and I communicate telepathically - that is when he transmits, I am expected to receive. Results are predictable ;) 2) I play Texas over opening 1nt (with or without interference); also, if I overcall 1NT and there is either no bid or there is a take-out dbl - then my partner can texas (and hopefully i'll remember); 3) all were vulnerable.
  12. Thnx Flame. The real bidding was very different; sry I didn't make it clear that this bidding is what p suggests and claims that this is the way Texas transfers can be employed , too (that is my problem, it might be some very good transfer which I unfortunately don't play and I don't think it is Texas - which I do play, however badly).
  13. North (me) holds: S KQ3 H Q42 D K52 C KQJ2 South (partner) holds: S A8764 H AJ9 D T4 C T72 (full layout at bottom) Partner's lamentations: Declarer is south. I don't agree the above bid (4H) would be Texas - am I wrong? Thnx for replies! Elena
  14. :( OK, I give up... After one month on an invisible strike (you are very right, Maureen, it doesn't help - and on top of it all you have to explain why you are invisible, too! making matters worse...) So I registered one nick for watching Vugraph and attending lessons. Hope to be able to register in BIL with that, adding more unproductive noise to Maureen's list, inventing a fake identity and supplying a fake email. But I guess it would still be easier than explaining the concept of "privacy" and the need to respect it. Blue morning... :(
  15. Gitelman/Moss 50000 Lindkvist/Fredin 50000 Sry Misho
  16. Nah... It just means: Baby, you can drive my car Yes I'm gonna be a star... She can drive your car, that is... :D edit 1: Or you can drive her car? edit 2: Huh... :( edit 3: What's car(d)s got to do with it.... :) edit 4: Discombobulated edit 5: Not me! There's a glitch in the system - the printer thinks it's a router, and types accordingly!
  17. A star is a star is a star... But so is a rose is a rose is a rose... (plagiarising shamelessly!) 1) Fred, wouldn't it be eaisier for you if Stars have a smallish, text-based, up to 100Kb dedicated space on the server where their WBF rating, national rating (updated occasionally) is available, along with some lines by_way_of_introduction? If anyone wants to nominate a new Star, constellation, black hole, white dwarf or whatever - they should send an email with this info at least? 2) would be nice if the info (WBF/national) is hyperlinked on the profile; In this way subjectivity will be minimised and star-requests will be reduced significantly. OK.. 2 (euro)cents for the piggy bank :D
