  1. Hi all, In France, your question is a sort of taboo one ! We have here a college of "Ayatollah's" which fight against they considere as an anatheme : opening a strong no-trump with a five card major. In fact, it could be a good move and I don't see any reasons to prohibate a such action. I think it is a partnership decision to say "never" or "sometimes". They are afraid to miss the major game in a 5-3 fit ? Many conventions allow a perfect hand description, for instance : 1NT-2C 2x-2NT=GF relay for shortness (less than three) 3x = shortness (3C=S, 3D=H, 3H=4333, 3S=D,3NT=C)* * a minor shortness imply the knowledge of the complete distribution : four H and a club shortness imply 3442 ; no major and a D shortness imply 3352,... On a major shortness, it's possible to relay again for the minor length : T, D, 44 1NT-2C-2S-2NT-3D(H shortness)-3H-3S=club length, so 4234. Michel
  2. Hello Jurgen Sorry, at first, I misunderstood your question. I use to play : 3 ♥ purely competive with or without the 3 ♣ bid : partner must pass 3 ♦ as a local trial bid DOUBLE as a general trial bid Michel I have to find a nice citation as you all !
  3. Hello Jorgen, That sort of bid is usually called try bid ; but the 3♣ overcall offers you the extra possibility of a double, which is no doubt a try bid in clubs. Michel
  4. Hi Kingjy, No, you didn't invent the wjs, but perhaps the vwjs ? :) I guess that you didn't play against gentlemen, that's all ! Banned for a year, hihi !!  Michel
  5. [hv=s=sqjxxhaqxxdxcaxxx]133|100|[/hv] Hi, I agree with the other posts ; the hand above is a minimal 4♦ bid. You need either the two majors in a non minimum hand, or only one 4th major in a nice hand like this one : [hv=s=sqjxxhaqxxdxcaxxx]133|100|[/hv] :D Michel
  6. Hi, Anybody knows where can I find a description of CAPP convention ? :) Thx a lot for the replys ! :D
