  1. Well... 3♥ is an impossible bid after the 1NT response which denies a ♥ fit It can show only one hand : - a maxi NT response (10HCP) - a big club fit - Kx or Ax in ♥ Something like ♠ Axx ♥ Rx ♦ xx ♣ Rxxxxx Even with that nice hand, I bid........5♣ !
  2. Hi all, At the matter of fact, the 7♥ bid was made by Xavier Michaud Larivière ; Cronier bid "only" six ! We must give to Cesar what it's belong to him :P Michel
  3. Hi all, Completely agree : 3 ♠ is invitational, showing a good 6-4. So if I have to hang somebody, I should choose West, because he have to accept the game with a near maximum hand (I imagine 1Nt is 6-10), a support in spades (the 10 !) and good diamonds.
  4. Hi all, Did I miss something ? In fact 6 ♦ is a not so awful ; it requires ♦ 2-2 and ♥ not worse than 4-2 OR ♦ 3-1 and (♥ 3-3 OR ♥ 4-2 and queen ♣ onside). But it's quite difficult to find ; For the bidding, I propose : 1 ♥* - (1 ♠) - PASS -(2 ♠) DOUBLE - PASS - 3 ♦ - PASS 3 ♠ - 4 ♦** 5 ♦*** * IMHA, too many aces/kings to open 2NT ** or 5 *** or PASS
  5. Hello, Was it MP or IMPS ? You speak about 67 %, so I guess it was MP's ( :) ) ! 4 ♥ at MP is the right bid, IMHO. At IMPs, you need a better vulnerability (white vs black)
  6. Congratulations to Grue for this foresight play. But to do that, add to a good technique, a clever reasonment and some courage (agree with Fred, if ♥ would be 3-2...), you need a very good reputation ! Imagine Buratti making such a play...
  7. Opening 1♦ instead of the normal 1♣ wasn't made on the purpose to rebid 2♣ ? So 2♣ seems a coherent rebid But, what is the problem with 1♣ opening and 2♣ rebid over 1M response ? I will add that I completely disagree with North 2NT ! The game is very unlikely and NS are white, so be happy with a partial contract I would bid 2♦ over 2♣, my partner described a 54+ minor But what is wrong about that good (old fashioned perhaps) sequence : 1♣-1♠-2♣-PASS follow by 3♣ over the likely balancing in ♥?
  8. Very interesting subject, alas too complicate for my poor english ! Basically, I use to open all the irregular 11-count, and sometimes the 10 with hearts (not spades, because it is easy to overcall when you have spades !). I do not "adjust" my system : he is built around these principes ! - many bids forcing in a classic system (ie SEF) are NF, - I need five-count to response to an opening bid, - a simple raise strictly begin at 6HCP, - 2/1 is forcing, but not systemetically auto forcing after 1x-2y-2x, - 1x-1NT shows 6-9H and 6-10 over 1M (1♠-1NT forcing) -... Light opening impose a discipline in the bidding. In fact, if I open lighter than the others in some case, I am more carefulness in a great number of situations. And, on the opposite, my overcalls and doubles are "serious", much more than I can observe around me ! Regards
  9. The first two hands evaluate to 11 Goren support points. So they are clear limit rasies even to the more old fashioned and/or n00b player like me. :) I'd have raised the third hand to 4♠, showing 5 piece trump support and very unslammish single-raise values otherwise. Assuming we were playing 5 card majors, anyway. Am I just oversimplifying it to a Law of Total Tricks thing, and would a lot of people limit raise on this hand? Hi, For my part, I raise the first hand to 4 ♠ because I have great hopes to make the contract. Two aces, four card support and a singleton worth a leap to game. I raise the third one hand to game because it's five-card support with reasonable strength. I hope to make it too, but less confident : - two doubletons, - a club suit which could be useless opposite xx The third one worth a 3 ♠ raise but I'm not proud of the dummy I'm going to spray !
  10. :) 1 ♠ : some strength, no majors After 1♣-(1♦), I play : - Double = ♥ - 1 ♥ = ♠ - 1 NT = natural, one stopper So 1 ♠ is an automatic bid Michel
  11. 1) 1♦-2♣- ? No real standard, but two approachs : 2♦ to describe a minimum hand (11-13) and 2NT guarantee 14. The point is what to do with a weakish hand over a 2♣ response. BUT classically, the 2NT rebid shows a balanced hand not too good to be open one NT, that is the 12-14 range (almost everybody now in France is playing 1NT 15-17) and this rebid is non forcing (in practice, you pass only with a bad flat 11-count 5332). It is a matter of partnership agreement. For my part, I play after 1♦-2♣ -2♦ = 11-13, 5+♦ -2NT = 11-13 -2M = 11-14, local force , sole rebid forcing -3♣ = 11-14, 4+♣ -3NT = 14-17, to play 2) 1x-1y-2NT No problem with this sequence : it is absolutely non forcing and you deny a 4-card support for y major. Just 18-20 balanced, so responder pass with a bad five-count. Big hands with support would be rebid with a direct raise (3 or 4), a reverse, or a splinter or 3NT. For this latter rebid, two schools : either a big 5422 or a flat 4333/4432 (Bessis and Delmouly say 3NT = balanced, Levy says 3NT = 5422). As you like it. lol Regards
  12. One or two precisions : 1m-1M-1NT-2♣ (it is called ROUDI) - 2♦ : no support for the major, weak (less than good 13) - 2M : three cards support, weak - 2M' : three cards support, maxi (good 13 --> 14) - 2NT : no support for the major, maxi as above Beware of 1m-1M-1NT-2NT : normally it is a transfer for 3♣, but for many players, it is natural (11-12) No, 2NT rebid by opener is not always GF and always deny four card support in the responder suit. 1x-1y-2NT shows 18-20 and denies support for y (if y=M) 1♦-2♣-2NT shows 13-15, responder could pass (exception ; 2/1 is auto-forcing). Good luck (I hate SEF lol).
  13. Hello, I have some questions about specific rules in the youth championships : - are there any carry-over in the half final and even the final, - are there any advantages for the two teams winners of the round robin (choose their opponent in the semis) Thx a lot for answers Michel
  14. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=s5432h2d32cq65432&w=sjt98haq7daqj5cj7&e=s76hkjt98dt9876ck&s=sakqh6543dk4cat98]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] Good hand for STAYMAN ; south open one no trump and north bids one spade. TD is called and north must pass or correct in the same denomination, or in a new one ; in that latter case, south is not allowed to bid again. So North simply bid 2♣. And you score +130 instead of -200 :P
  15. Completely agree ! This is a borderline slam ; more we have to keep in mind that east doesn't know the sixth spade ; with five spades only in west hand, the slam becomes an ugly one and even ten tricks could be not so easy.
  16. Double at IMPS and double at MP
  17. 2 ♦ : 3/10 3 ♦ : 0/10 DOUBLE : 0/10 at IMPS, 10/10 at MP 4 ♦ : 0/10 As you understand, this sequence is not my style :)
  18. DOUBLE = 9 and more, penalty oriented After that, it follows the same lines than after 1x-dbl-rbl The other responses shows less than 9 HCP 2 Clubs = 44 majors after a 1m, transfer for ♦ after a 1M (5+) 2 Diamonds = transfer for ♥ always (5+ or 3 in case of a ♥ opening bid) 2 Hearts = transfer for ♠ always (5+ or 3 in case of a ♠ opening bid) 2 Spades = transfer for ♣ always (the opp never let you play 2m unless it's ok for them) 2 NT = 55 minors always 3 clubs = transfer for ♦ in case of a 1m opening bid. 3 of the major is preempt. Have a nice day
  19. Establish the ♠ 8 or 9 ? Do we have those cards ? Eliminate diamonds ? Do you plan a throw-in ? :D :D
  20. <_< :) I'm so confused : I misred the spades ! I saw AJ9 and not AJ9x ! So the second part of my last post is stupid. I apologize. What I want to say about the 1 ♥ is that it works well only in that case : partner pass and opps balance with one spade. In all the other cases, you have a good rebid : 1 ♥ over one diamond by partner, 4 ♣ over one heart or one spades, 3 NT over 1 NT, ... When you choose an atypic opening bid, it is for plan your rebid over the partner's response, not over the opponent one, no ?
  21. In my humble opinion, the only good case to open that hand with 1 ♥ is precisely when partner pass and n°4 bid 1 ♠. It is a pragmatic view, to say ! :D OK, you open with 1 ♥ and now partner's response is 1 ♠. What is your rebid ? :)
  22. This hand is a pure example about how the level of the auction affect the judgment. With the same hand, what did you bid after 1♠ DOUBLE 2♠ ? 4NT ??? I don't think so ! 3 ♦ looks enough, no ? That's why, perhaps against everyone I guess, I should pass over 3 ♠. Assuming this 4 ♦ bid (which would be my second choice), I firmly pass over my partner's double, which must show a 18-20 count certainly with some trumps. I think we're going to score a big plus. Well of course with the actual hand revealing, I bid 6 ♣ <_< :) :D Michel
  23. Two nice judgment bidding problems... First hand : Sadly, we played at MP so I'm afraid than both the 2 ♠ and 3 ♦ are not be considered as "constructive" one. Happily, we played at MP, so I double, because I had twelve combat points. Second hand : With my usual partner, I pass quietly : he had a bunch of defensive tricks because he knows that I could have just one, and he is clearly misfit. With an occasional partner, I pass too but ............................no so quietly ! If four ♠ is a make, perhaps double was the wrong bid or perhaps opps are lucky. That's life
