  1. I'd play the other suits first leaving entries to achieve the ♥ double finesse position. It's MP and you want to get the best possible result. If East had a ♥ honour, even a stiff, I think they would have probably led it. West has bid 2♥ in 3rd at red. I would play him to have a suit with ♥QJ but as you say it is not a certainty.
  2. I thought that opening 2♦, 2♥, 2♠ in 4th seat does not show weak but about, I guess, 11-14 points and six card suit. That is how I play it if using three weak two bids in my system. But for quite a few days I have thought - and searched on internet with no luck - what does 3♣, 3♦, 3♥, 3♠ and 4♣, 4♦ (if not use Namyats) show here? Three passes and what sort of hand to use these bids, or is this a crazy question? There must be some definition somewhere, and I guess that 3NT would still be either a gambling all honours minor or balanced 25-27 in 4th here, or does that bid change in 4th also? (Easy answer: 3♣, 3♦, 3♥, 3♠ show 11-14 and seven card suit, and 4♣, 4♦ show 11-14 and eight card suit, but is this best way to use these bids?)
  3. What is the most likely contract? 4♠. Bid it now. You may miss 6m but that could be less than 50%. Any other bid than 3♣ forcing is just making complication. You want lead to come up to your hand and 4♠ looks a good bet. keep it simple :)
  4. I have a small idea with a human partner what 4♥ means here other than it is forcing imo. I would only assume - and this is wild guess - it is an advanced cue bid showing a void/stiff ♥ and agreeing ♦s as trump suit. With GIB I have no idea as I do not play with robots. btw, why did you open 1♦ here instead of 1♣? I prefer rebid of 1NT if partner bids 1♥/1♠ here than rebidding 2♣ showing longer ♦ than ♣ except if you have agreement that 4♦/5♣ hands can be bid this way.
  5. I have looked at results of this player. He do this often. BBO should do something about this, I agree.
  6. With one red opp. passed I will try 1♥ here. I think it is too strong for Namyats, even though it is a 9-10 trick hand with normal breaks. ♣Q10x is also a potential trick. The problem with Namyats here is the solid suit. Most Namyats I have seen is where one honour is missing from the major with an outside trick such as an ace or king/queen.
  7. The only time I would open this hand either red or white is 3rd seat with 3♣. otherwise I would pass in all the other seats.
  8. The only time I would open this hand either red or white is 3rd seat with 3♣. otherwise I would pass in all the other seats.
  9. I thought this also, David. Its possible South has different hand than the ones you have shown, and its difficult (imo) to stop in 5m missing two aces. 4♦ shows 6-5 yes, it should do imo, but does it show minimum or extras? maybe 3NT is best contract at imp pairs? I agree North passing 3NT is 95%+ not to happen with 6-5 shape - I would bid also.
  10. The answer is to obvious. gszes get +4 for obvious answer. I get zero for think out of box answer. lol :) what if distribution is? [hv=pc=n&s=st65hk862daq7caj5&w=sqj983ha43djt9c98&n=sk4hdk8652ckqt642&e=sa72hqjt975d43c73&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1c2h]399|300[/hv] will north bid again or trust partners bid 3NT? Happy Christmas every body. Peace on earth.
  11. bridge is partnership game. you have shown your extra values, partner has not. if he has any he should be X 4♠ or bid 5♥. he does not so I think pass is correct here. he could have yarborough and no entries so you will have to play from your hand and -3 could be bad result at red.
  12. The lead allows you to play on ♦ AK on trick 2 & 3 and then enter dummy with ♣ finesse, or force finesse so 4♦4♣1♥3♠ are tricks. percentage play not though. the drop of ♣8 from east makes this happen. now if west led 4th high with ♣3 :)
  13. They must like card games called 52 Entertainment :) Car Park photo is lol, Pilowsky :) :) :)
  14. 4♥ by south is a Unimaginative bid holding 4 aces. Having set the trump suit with 2♥ I would bid something else. Obviously it will depend on agreements with partner. Every bid 2NT, 3♣, 3♦, 3♠ would have been forcing. Jumping to 4♥ says: that is it partner! I am not saying it is easy to arrive in 6♥ or whether 6♥ will make, but just going to game with South hand is just easy way out.
  15. yes agree. but as a defensive value I would only count 1 trick here. opening hands at the one level with just 1.5 quick tricks and other spread values, such as distribution or QJx, Q10x in a suit is borderline.
  16. 2♦ simple overcall. partner has passed. it will probably stop them using relay bid after 2♣ opener. that is enough for you now. you cannot stop his partner bidding 2♥ or 3♣ and unless you have some convention to use over precision 2♣ opening to show this hand then just simple 2♦ bid will do. those who are more aggressive may prefer 3♦ as your hand is 6-5 but your suit is weak and it will take time to make tricks. that's why 2♦ I prefer. more difficult for LHO to X given the limited points and shape of openers hand. you might have some jumping michaels bid to use here but its possible there is misfit on hands also, so I do not want to go to high level when I can disrupt their relay with my bid
  17. Forget about the actual hand, a 6-4 nice but not very nice. The other reason why you pass is that opener has passed before you. the actual hand is just one quick trick so if you then get into a competitive auction partner will place you with more also. when he then X the opps you will be in regret. by passing and then being in a competitive auction he will know that you are not bringing many tricks to the defense.
  18. 3NT should only be bid if you hold 4♠ exactly. You do not give partner any space to mention 3 card ♠ support.
  19. at matchpoints - NO; at imps - maybe YES. seeing both hands make bidding a slam easy. playing at table is another matter, especially bidding minor suit slam. you only have 27 points max and could be missing a number of keycards and end beyond 5♣ off two aces depending on what version of rkcb you use, and partners ♣ support as south could be worse than ♣QJ.
  20. another way to look at this. what suit would you overcall at one level if the opps. opened 1♣ if you were not using two suited convention like Ghestem? I would always overcall 1♦. I think hand is poor other than good ♦ suit so no reluctance to open 1♦. downgrade ♠ suit. If hand was however ♠Q10xxx ♥x ♦AKQJx ♣xx I will always open 1♠ 100% of the time.
  21. My simple way to look at this is 6/5 shape with all honours in long suit. 2♦ is major underbid. 3♦ is very minor overbid. You can think a million different hands partner can have where slam/game makes or does not make, but not bidding your own hand strength is acting as a coward. if you think you are overbidding hand with 3♦, then you could also bid 3♥ as invitation as alternative though that is not a good bid as you lose ♦ suit as possible place to play. So I bid 3♦ 100% of the time with this hand, even with ♠ void/stiff/misfit.
  22. you should try to show support for your partner's suit at the earliest time, but here I bid 1♠ with 5♠3♥. it is forcing if you are not a passed hand. partner may have 5♥4♠in his hand then you have a double fit when he raises ♠. that will allow you to reassess your hand.
  23. [hv=pc=n&s=sakj7hkda5caq7532&n=sq85432haj72dq2c4&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1cp1sp3d(good%20raise)p3h(cue)p4c(cue)p4n(rkcb)p5c(1430)p7sppp]266|200[/hv] 3♦ short and gf. shows control. north with 2 extra trumps and near maximum pass goes to grand. it is very not likely partner has one ace here. trump lead may stop grand being made if different cards in south hand but there are other opportunity in play.
  24. This is official meaning: Hedgehog Squeeze - A squeeze of one opponent in three suits and the other opponent in two or three suits. Good hand to post nige1. have not heard of this squeeze before. Igelkott squeeze. spiky for the opponents lol! :)
