  1. 1♠ isn't unlimited, it shows 11-17 while 1NT shows (11) 12-14. Whether or not 1♠ is necessarily unbalanced, that is a matter of partnership agreement. An advantage of playing it as both balanced and unbalanced is that you won't end up in the wrong partscore if responder isn't inv or GF. To answer smerriman's questions: What does 2N by opener mean? 2N shows a minimum with 2♥. What does 3♥ by opener mean? A balanced slam try is unlikely with max 17 opposite 10-11 (an unbalanced opener could splinter with shortage). On the other hand, I really dislike bouncing back the invite with 3♥ unless you want to give your opponents every license to double you in 4♥. The latter option (3♥ as inv) is probably most easy to remember, it avoids disasters and therefore it is preferable.

  3. Yeah, I forgot about Polish Club. A playable system but as far as I know its popularity is limited to Poland.
  4. 2/1 GF or Precision are the winning systems. When was the last time a pair won the Bermuda Bowl playing a different system without cheating? (In 2011, Verhees-Van Prooijen won the Bermuda Bowl playing Canapé but they played Precision as well, Ultimate Club. In 2016, they switched to Tarzan Precision.) Being aggressive is better than being sound unless there's a big gap in skill.
  5. Exactly this. Though I admit I do not know the difficulty coding this.
  6. 6NT is cold on this lay-out (1♠, 5♦ and 6♣ makes 12 tricks). 6NT in South could go down on a ♥-lead if you misguess ♥, but it is very unlikely for someone to underlead their ace against 6NT so you ought to get them right. Notice that 6NT played from North is cold (without ♣ breaking 3-0 with West having the length). I disagree with all the comments fiercely criticizing North's second pass having seen all the hands. Assuming double is penalty, give partner ♠AKx, ♥Axx, ♦xxx, ♣Axxx. 4♠ is certainly -1, most likely at least -2. If you bid, partner will go down in both 5♣ and 5♦. The partner of some of the forum posters will go down even more in 6.
  7. It's really great that BBO decided to make Bridge Master free of charge. Thanks a lot! :) In case BBO decides to improve Bridge Master, I would suggest two things. Firstly, an option to claim and secondly, an option to remove the sound of the played cards in the solution.

  18. If 3♣ is NF, then I bid it. I prefer a 5-3 or 5-2 minor fit over a 6-0 ♥-fit.
  19. Experts play Gazzilli, so that isn't a bidding problem at all. Simply rebid 2♣ (16+). If partner bids 2♦ (any 8+), then you bid 2♠ (3♠, 16+). If partner bids 2♥ (mostly 2♥, 4-7) or 2♠ (5+♠, 4-7) then you raise to 3 as an invite.
  20. A hand from the 2nd set of the final of the BBO forum event. Any idea why the advanced GIB did not cash ♥A? https://bit.ly/2w5WJZw

Everyone meets everyone. A lot of advantages: no luck of a draw, and you avoid the problem of 80% of the players waiting for 20% in the later stages of the tournament.
