  1. It does say trumps are played from the top down. It also says the claimer should lose in all drop or finesse situations. Well I learned something.
  2. Director can award a penalty for slow play. To the extent the director can determine which pair is responsible for slow play.
  3. I'm a director. If it were impossible for declarer to lose a trick, he would get it back. Since it is possible for declarer to lose the trick with normal play, which includes inferior play or careless play, in my opinion the concession stands. This situation arose at my club. I'd be curious if there is any clarifying material out there beyond the rules of bridge.
  4. DIAMOND Even if declarer has a losing spade it can't go away on the diamonds. If declarer was 2-5-5-1, he could pitch it on the clubs but he would have already done so. Why did partner play 3-J of diamonds? Would he do that with a doubleton? Would he do that with JT3? Say declarer started with QT965 of diamonds and they are now good. Declarer didn't know the jack would drop and the diamonds would set up. So now we play partner for the queen of hearts hopefully doubleton but even singleton if declarer misguesses the position and doubleton diamond. If declarer is trying to reach his hand to take a club finesse 2-2 in the black suits, I say we let him.
  5. RHO has the king of clubs and either the king or ace queen of diamonds. So it's LHO that needs the king of hearts to have a vulnerable two level overcall. To go with at most AQ of diamonds ace of spades jack of clubs. But I'm not anxious to draw that conclusion with bad oppenents. They don't know or don't care how dangerous 2 diamond bid with a broken suit is. I refuse the finesse and play ace and another.
  6. I might of been north on this hand. 3S is a misclick meaning to rebid 3H. I live with it rather than whine like a baby and ask for a redo. 4H,5H are an attempt to recover rather than play 3N or 4S down horribly. He doesn't promise a spade stop for 3NT since i bid them. Maybe he has Sxxx Hx DAKQxx CAKQx. 3NT is down on the mandatory spade lead, the unbid suit. 4S only makes because the spade spots drop. And he might have the previous hand. I don't know his spades are this good. I honestly don't get into delicate inference auctions on BBO with people I just met a few hands ago. I have a very natural style. Whatever the merits of this auction at a world championship with a partner you've played with for 20 years. Looks like Billw figured it out. "On the other hand, 4♥-5♥ smells strongly of a "that's not what I meant" sequence." I can now say I'm friend of Billw.
