If there are no more prizes left to win, why not have the software just end the tournament then, so that the participants can receive the completed tourney stat?

No tournaments of that type are available
heyrocky replied to Bbradley62's topic in BBO Support Forum
I have always imagined it's the Web version's way (albeit not entirely by design) of telling you your connection is not quite right, akin to the red dot in the Windows version, but I don't know. I see the same message with some frequency, too, and have always wondered about its significance. -
I didn't mean to be the first to vote, but if I held the hand, I would open 1D. What's the rush to preempt? The auction will certainly not go 1D - All Pass... If I did decide a preempt were appropriate, I understand 5D, but not 4D.

I have the full version on the Kindle, bought through the publisher a month ago. I had to convert the file the publisher made available to be able to load it on the Kindle, but turns out there's a program that does that easily enough, and it all costs less than what Amazon is charging for the four parts, if I recall. I've gotten about a quarter of the way through it. I had hoped to start this thread with a review of the entire book, but there is so much to digest, and it turns out moving back to the US takes a great deal of time. Reading bridge books on the Kindle isn't that different than a physical book, but if there's a hand being discussed that might have been on a facing page, you will have to page forward and backward to get the full effect.

Glad to know it's not just me. For what it's worth, Lion did not fix the problem; I upgraded the first day it was available, but saw this problem on both sides of the upgrade.

For those that do not like them (me!), grilling vegetables makes them close to palatable. Well, most of them. I like grilling corn using Bobby Flay's method, but still don't like to eat it. Those I grill for like their corn that way. Has anyone tried pizza on the grill? I imagine a slightly drier crust dough would be needed, but have not tried it myself.

Not sure I belong in this forum  , but the question seems reasonable to place here. [hv=pc=n&e=saqj9h942dacaqj83&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=2hpp]133|200|IMP pairs[/hv] I was not happy doubling, but the hand seemed too much for 3♣, and I wanted to keep spades in the picture. I wasn't playing with Marshall Miles, so I couldn't bring myself to consider 2♠. If you agree with double, what do you do over 3♦, or over lebensohl 2NT, forcing 3♣ by me (still okay?), followed by 3♦? I hoped the traveler would help me feel better about my choices, which it did, sort of, since I was the only one who faced this problem. S at my table preempted with a five card heart suit, which isn't crucial to the problem at hand, but it makes me realize that having to think more about my choices was reasonable.

If the auction were uncontested, you would push to 3♠, using, for example, 1NT forcing in a 2/1 structure, so bidding it here directly makes sense to me. Is this the cutoff for bidding 3♠ directly in this auction, or if not, how much less would be allowable?

If I recall, notifications can be turned off in the Windows version. That is about the best you can do. You don't need the print button to take a screenshot, unless you intend to snail mail rude comments to BBO Abuse (I hope not). The Windows version is not going to change, but the Web client does not add pictures to the screen when someone logs on, for example.

This thread discusses your question (wonder if it should be pinned at some point): iPad et al thread

This situation can also happen when more than one person invites you to a tourney at about the same time. In the Web version, the inviter's profile also appears, making it easy to fire off a brief note thanking the person for the invite, but that you just accepted another invitation. The Web version invitations put the most recent invite on top, which isn't ideal, but not worth worrying about too much.

I keep thinking about a Daily Show bit from a while back on dealing with the deficit. One of the punch lines: "Legalize It!"

When East decided not to show his or her hearts via a negative double, that deemed the hand worth one bid. 2D was that bid.

jumping to game after a preempt
heyrocky replied to avoscill's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Rodwell is good enough and has a good enough partner that he can bid whatever he wants. The rest of us (well, maybe except Justin) might be better served by showing a bit more restraint... -
I find that, at least on my network, the delay in the mouse over pop-up is such that it may well be faster to see a profile via clicking. Could be just me, or my distance from the BBO servers.

Ari Greenberg, arigreen@bridgebase.com, is our GIB specialist. There's also a mechanism for reporting GIB issues through the Web version (I walked the user through it).

This has happened to me occasionally as well; while it's hardly an elegant solution, when this occurs, I end up shutting down the window and loading a new one. I've observed this behavior on my Mac running both Firefox and Chrome, for what it's worth.

Early in Zia's "Bridge My Way" he describes such a bid by Mike Passell in the individual tournament he uses to frame the book; as Zia's partner, he made a game try after 1M - 2M (my memory isn't so good to recall which major suit) on xxx in diamonds to inhibit that lead, in case it mattered.

I think you now want bridgebase.com/mobile for all your Vugraph needs.

The hands from my most recent tourney (11/01 1830 ACBL robot, in the timing nomenclature used on BBO) are available, but are not found for any other tourney in the list (covering ACBL, Sky Club and BBOTurkiye). I noticed this yesterday, but figured it was a temporary glitch. Perhaps not...

While I do not know the exact algorithm being used, space is allocated based on the width of the tabbed space, and I'm not so sure it would be easy to make just one field within that space bigger. If for some reason the user cannot make the tabbed space bigger, I am not sure what else Fred could do, other than perhaps being able to see the result fullsize as a popup if the user were to point the cursor on the result field. As an aside, I glanced at my version of BBO when I was playing with the tabbed space, and noticed we are now at V40. Guess this thread is obsolete now. :)

The morning matches on Vugraph on Sunday: Diamond - Lavazza Cayne - Wolfson Nickell - Martens Herve announced these matchups late in the last session on Saturday, and matchups are listed in the Bulletin as well (where I took this information).

Ten Years After
heyrocky replied to Aberlour10's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I still have a hard drive from what was my computer in 2001, which I save only because it's my record of three hands I got to play with Fred during the first year of BBO. -
You can speak to a yellow at any time, from anywhere, even if you are playing (and even if the yellow is playing, too).

Does it bother anyone else that in the uncontested sequence: 1♠ - 2♣ - 2♦ - 2♥ 2♥ is described by GIB as 5+♣, 4+♥, 13+, instead of being 4SF? Are there any other 4SF auctions that are not defined as such by GIB? I've seen this one twice recently, but cannot recall seeing any others. If I must, I can post the hand (maybe even hands; I have seen this more than once), but my bidding after this sequence gets muddled. Since I'm not sure what I really should be doing after the misinterpreted 2H (yes, I do read the explanation before bidding, but I'm stubborn and bid it anyway), my further sequences would deserve much ridicule, which I can live without for now.
