  1. I have never found that feature on the mobile app, and am fairly certain it does not exist there,
  2. The good: I am startled how much faster the game is with the new version (iOS 11 on a few year old iPad); the new code is much more responsive. The display errors I used to see with the old version are not there so far. The bad: To elaborate on the scoring history, I played in an individual tournament this morning, so I bounced around in both directions. Unfortunately, the scores as the tournament went on were listed as N/S and E/W, so I had to recall which direction I was sitting to interpret the score for each board. I can do that, but should I have to? The odd: on a couple of hands this morning, the dealer was not indicated in the board number display until the dealer bid. I used to know who dealt based on the board number, when I played more live bridge, but I guess BBO has spoiled me into not remembering that any more. More good: convention cards. I like how you decided to display them given the limitations of the mobile device screen. If coding issues forced the takeaway of landscape mode, I can get that, but maybe it would have been better to say that up front; I think I saw that in this comment thread. It did seem odd that I had to flip my screen when I clicked on the comment thread in the app to read and add to this thread.

    RIP

I had better be the one to post this: June Foray, the voice of Rocky The Flying Squirrel, and so many others: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/comic-riffs/wp/2017/07/27/rip-june-foray-first-lady-of-animation-acting-voiced-rocky-and-bullwinkle-and-tweety-roles/?utm_term=.4ea69d754e76
  4. It isn't a crucial bug, but when I opened the new version and clicked on the VuGraph button this afternoon, I found the display below: (Clicking on it shows a bigger image, at least on my Mac. I rarely, if ever, post images, obviously...) It should be needless to say, but when I enter a room, there is more than one kibitzer. When I return to the table list after being at a table (which is probably legacy code), the number of kibitzers is more accurate. Rich
  5. If you happen to be reading this, and plan to be in Chicago the second weekend (Friday the 14th, Saturday the 15th) of the Summer NABC, and happen to be looking for a partner, feel free to message me here, on BBO, or through yellow email: heyrocky@bridgebase.com. Rich
  6. I see I am the only one that bid 4♥, so everyone else, you now have a target. :) Guess I have seen too many partners take 3♣ bids too seriously.
  7. While custom games are not quite his thing, a board game reference that people on this board might appreciate comes from the ESPN.com baseball writer Keith Law, who counts board games as one of his non-baseball passions (he also blogs on food topics, and has an interesting take on that as well). He plays games frequently, reviews them occasionally, and posts a top N list every year. For this year's list, N = 60, and can be found at: Keith Law Top 60 Boardgames
  8. Along those lines, finding someone to play the Andre the Giant role in The Princess Bride is impossible, if for no other reason than the stories about filming that Cary Elwes has in his new book out today...
  9. This isn't a big deal, since I can always use a different browser, but sometimes I forget. When I call up BBO in Safari on the lone Windows machine I have in my house, I remember that I cannot type in any of the usual chat places, even though I see the prompt. Safari on my Macs have no such trouble, so I was just wondering why this might be.
  10. Rain, will that be you? For anyone that cares :), I am there Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th, and would love to meet any BBOers who want to find me and say hi.

    The Open

To use a well-worn cliche, while others did not play as well as they might have liked, Phil won this championship. Given how the back nine has played all week, how he finished was spectacular.

    The Open

Can Westwood handle the pressure of the lead? Can he be the next to shake the moniker of the "greatest never to win a major"?
  13. It really depends on the time of day. It's 3:30 EDT now, and there is an ACBL MP tourney with 41 tables that just started. As the day progresses, the number of players in ACBL robot tourneys increases dramatically, as more ACBL players log on, so that pretty much every one (offered every ten minutes) will have a reasonable number of players. The ones on the hour and half hour seem to be the most popular, at least in my observations.
  14. I have been using an iPad Mini for the past couple of months, and it's okay with the card diagram and with the confirm option turned on. I would not want to play on it full time, but sometimes the portability is very useful.

Marv Harshman, former basketball coach at Pacific Lutheran University (my alma mater), Washington State University, and the University of Washington, and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, and, on the same day, Frosty Westering, former longtime football coach at my alma mater, and member of the Football Hall of Fame.
  16. I haven't played offline bridge in years, so my apologies if this is a question with an obvious answer: Who should declarer be asking what? My gut tells me if he wants to know lead agreements, he should be asking RHO, and carding, LHO, but does this idea have any basis in the rules? If so, then opening leader does not have to explain the agreements, which is awkward if the agreements are for some reason not followed (which seems like it happens a fair bit).
  17. For some of us, seeing pictures of cards better resembles being at a real table, rather than seeing something out of a book. Having said that, and reflecting how opinions differ, I find it fascinating that people can prefer the pictures in the experimental version, when I find nothing appealing about them at all. BBO has displays for everyone, and that's great.
  18. I need to vent, and this thread seems to fit my need. Continuing the thread about Georgia congressional candidates, the Republican candidate for the US House in the district where I reside shuns the press and refuses to debate the incumbent Democratic candidate. Tonight, my wife and I tuned to one of the local channels, expecting something else, but instead found a news special, purportedly to meet these candidates. I was actually interested, since I thought it would be the chance to hear the Republican speak, finally. It turns out the Republican was issued an invitation, but declined. The Democrat was there, and I guess gets the full hour to himself for free. The Democrat also has a massive monetary edge, and runs ads almost daily in the local media. The ads themselves seem to be, in my opinion, fairly effective, and not even all that negative toward the Republican (the PACs and superPACs are taking care of the negative ads on both sides). The punchline: the Republican is favored to win the seat.
  19. A posting from Roger Ebert with a video of the comments in question: http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/evolution-is-lies-straight-fro.html This gentleman represented the district where I live, unfortunately, but redistricting foisted him on another populace, thankfully. His new constituents apparently are okay with that, since he is running unopposed this election cycle...
  20. Would the Options button at the bottom of the Results pane, and uncheck "Pictures of cards", do what you want?

  22. In case Dave does not have the chance to post a reply, he finally succeeded by reinstalling the base version from the Web site, then applying the update, so if anyone else has trouble, one might try this approach.
  23. No, ESPN has not defined bridge as a sport just yet, so I was surprised to find, while glancing at the most recent issue of ESPN the Magazine, a picture of Bob Hamman inside. The article for which the picture was taken was on his SCA Promotions business, which is certainly an interesting sports-related story.
