Well said. There was a time when people in power would burn others at the stakes to protect their own beliefs and power. Happily those days are over. We just yell at each other these days. What I see is climate change being stuck in the same room as creationism vs evolution. No matter what the science says, creationists will always stick to their antiquated beliefs. So, many will be stuck with what to believe or not in the CO2 propaganda, with no way to figure it out.

I'm M.Sc. in chemistry. So I guess I must have insulted myself :)

Well said. The problem lies here... An attornay may be extremely brilliant and efficient in his field of work. But who is he to evaluate the science of climate change ? The same can be said of an accountant and people in many other spheres of human activity. Only someone with a formal education in science and the scientific approach, be it chemistry, physics, engeneering, etc, can evaluate the truth of a theory through experimental data measurements. Anyone else can have a belief but it will always be a simple belief, not a scientific evaluation. The proof of what I say is right here in many posts I've red. I have noticed that many people can't even distinguish between harmful and harmless chemicals. They can't even begin to imagine that you can scrub out harmfull chemicals comming out of a stack and let go of the harmless ones. How can they evaluate climate change ? Since most people dont have the scientific approach, the bigest propaganda will win in the end since people tend to stick to their beliefs no matter what ! Please... no hate responses !

And some day the sun will become so big it will englobe Mercury, Venus and the Earth and then then explode ! I'm ready for it ! I'll be dead !

Right to a certain point. Our atmosphere has, to the nearest 1/10th of a percent 0.0% CO2. You're telling me that that is what makes all the difference between the temperatures on earth and Mars ? How about oxygen and nitrogen absorbing heat from the ground like a pan on a stove ?
-
I think some people might get me wrong here. So I'm going to clear it out. Mars and the moon don’t have an atmosphere and are unbelievably cold. The earth has an atmosphere with less then 0,05% CO2 in it. I’d say that our atmosphere is just about 99,95% oxygen and nitrogen and that the temperatures on earth are more then comfortable. So, I’d say that it’s the oxygen and nitrogen in our atmosphere, that Mars and the moon don’t have, that are the greenhouse effect gases here on earth. Besides, what’s so special about the CO2 molecular structure that would make it so greenhouse effect maniac ? Now that we have that CO2 fairy tale out of the way, let’s see the bigger picture… Plants need that CO2 to live. The more the merrier. More CO2 in the atmosphere means that plants grow faster. More CO2 in the atmosphere means more CO2 in the oceans. More CO2 in the oceans means more plankton and therefore more food for fish and sea mammals. But hey ! Don’t tell anyone ! So, please, stop all those nasty chemicals like sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, smoke, dust and other solid materials like plastics, just to name a few, from being released into our environment. They are really damaging. You burn coal, scrub the released gases in your stack of those nasty chemicals. But, water vapor and CO2 coming out of industrial stacks are harmless. Let It Be ! Trying to eliminate or reduce CO2 won’t change a thing for climate change is preordained like the models have proven. Climate change due to CO2 levels in the atmosphere is just a hoax. They are out for your money in the form of a carbon tax. Don't let yourself be fooled.

I dont know about Curry's model and I dont really care to know. I've got Vukcevic, Salvador, Scafetta and Bart's. They all say the same thing... Little Ice Age Coming by 2030... https://tallbloke.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/2mode2.jpg Anyways, That's not really important. What's important is that the CO2 BS has been exposed. They just want your tax dollars !

The number of sunspots since 1700 is pretty well known. Scafetta and others did a FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) on those data to determine the relevent frequencies in the coming and going of sunspots over time. He came up with cycles of 9.98, 10.80 and 11.86 years. Using only Jupiter's and saturn's orbital periods of 11.862242 and 29.457784 years we can calculate all of the above frquencies... 11.86 years = Jupiters orbital period. 9.98 = half Jupiter-Saturn synodic period 10.80 = Bart's period. How curious these figures fit so well with sunspots data. https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2011/08/05/jackpot-jupiter-and-saturn-solar-cycle-link-confirmed/ https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2011/07/31/bart-modeling-the-historical-sunspot-record-from-planetary-periods/ The sunspot count appears to reflect the energy of these combined processes at around 20 and 23.6 years, which necessarily has apparent periods of 0.5*T1, 0.5*T2, T1*T2/(T2+T1), and T1*T2/(T2-T1) years, or 10 years, 11.8 years, 10.8 years, and 131 years. The 11.8 year period is very close to 11.86 years, the orbital period of Jupiter. The 10 year period is very close to 9.93 years, half the synodic period of Jupiter and Saturn. (Conjunction and opposition of these two planets are both effective tidally) That should just about sum it up !

Nop. So PLEASE !

Climate change is preordained and has nothing to do with human activity. It's the orbiting planets, mainly Jupiter, that cause tides in the sun,s plasma, just like the moon causes tides in the earth's oceans. These tides increase or decrease the sun's actibity therebye temperatures on earth. See Vukcevic, R.J. Salvador and Nicola Scafetta on Google.

A friend had this hand... ♠KQx ♥- ♦AJxx ♠KQJxxx She oppened the bidding 1♣, LHO bid 1♥ (what else?), Partner responded X (negative), RHO bid 2♥ and she bid 3♦. She and I asked some people about the meaning of the 3♦ bid. We got some answers. We asked 2 GLMs and 1 ELM and got 3 different answers !!! a) Not forcing, just dont want to let 2♥ go. b) Shows extra but not forcing. c) Shows a reverse just the same. Wow ! What is your pick ?

Quantitative or not
baraka replied to jerdonald's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Read jdonn slam bidding series. If you have a way of showing your fit and dont use it, 4NT is quantitative. If you show your fit with a cue bid, in this case a forcing to 4 cue like 4C, 4D, Partner cues and after 4NT is blackwood. -
My view is stay away from kickback. If you have a serious partnership though, Redwood in some specific situatrions is nice... 1)After an inverted minor sequence (criss-cross or not) where it is shure you wont play in a major and have passed 3NT to 4 in the minor. 2) After a 1NT opening, a MSS or MST followed by a 3 level new suit showing a splinter by responder. If opener flees to 4 of the minor, showing no interest in 3NT then Redwood is on.
-
Welcome to the club ! I've been fighting the programmers for some time now on ajusting hand values for known duplication of values and also not making splinter bids with singleton As, Ks and Qs so as to not create those duplication of values situations. Looks like I'm preaching in the desert !
-
I was about to show a hand where a splinter bid with a singleton K or A is worthless as a splinter bid because splinter bids are supposed to be picture bids. x, J or void, if only to avoid duplication of values situations. Case in point... After a 1NT oppening and a MSS or Minor suit transfer, the next bid of a new suit at the 3 level is showing a splinter asking Partner to choose between NT with stoppers or to flee to 4 of the minor otherwise. How can opener decide when he knows that the splinter could be a K or a Q and he has the A. What is opener supposed to do when the bidding goes 2C - 2D - 2NT - 3S - 4D - 4H (splinter) and he has AQX and cant bid 4NT to play (it's Blackwood). An other flaw. A NT opener cant ever bid 4NT blackwood ! It's a SUGGESTION to play (he,s not the captain) ! BUT I GIVE UP ON EVER SEEING GIB FULLY FUNCTIONAL !

Havind Part bid 3NT
baraka replied to baraka's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
OK. He wont put it back, so... If opps bid 2 suits, the suit you bid promises stoppers in that suit and asks part to bid NT with stoppers in the other suit. -
Havind Part bid 3NT

To the person who deleted his post... please leave it. It might be helpfull to someone else later -
With... xx AKxx Qx AJxxx Kxx xx AKxxx Qxx Bidding... 1D - (1H) - 2C - (P) 3C - (P) - ??? Does any one have any idea on how for North to ask South to bid 3NT with a Spade stopper. I know that 3H would be asking for a stopper in hearts, but to ask for a stopper in the other unbid suit ??? It gets me ! Should North have bid something else then 2C and procede an other way ?

GIB Release Notes - updated with each new version
baraka replied to Bbradley62's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
It should not be that hard to fix, at least in part. Both opps bid hearts. GIB has 3. Therefore I have at most 1. What will Qxx in opp's suit bring me ? Nada ! That Q should be set at a big fat zero in value and proceed from there. It might be simplistic but not so far off. It's just like that stiff K of clubs when opps both bid and raised clubs. A big fat zero ! It's called duplication of value. Bridge is a game of odds. Every time GIB detects a duplication of value he should down grade because the odds got lowered. -

Not some stupid Quacks ! Even less a Q in opp's suit ! 4Hearts makes easy. I have to save. Why does GIB kills me every time ? Why is it that GIB has such a hard time evaluating an honour in opp's suit like a singleton K of clubs after the opp's go 1 club - 3 clubs ? That was one I got once. -
So we will always be prone to some unhappy mishaps !

Played ACBL instant tournament this morning. Crap ! Robots defend better today then some years ago and you can get some very bad results simply because of that. It's unfair and never again will I get involved in this crap !

I say good for you, but that is not really my point here. Against an opp known 5-5 in the majors and a known 7+ card fit in one major, partner is most likely not to have 4-4 in the majors. Therefore, partner has 4+ ♦'s. If I had wanted to play 5♦ in front of a minimum hand, I would have bid 5♦ myself. Therefore, my 4♦ bid is at best invitational if not for pure competition. Why on earth is GIB bidding 5♦ on his bare minimum hand is beyond me ! Please correct !
