I made the fairly sick 4♠ call, most of the field seemed to actually. Some escaped a double for -200 or -300, we weren't so lucky, losing 800 when East doubled and West passed. Thought I would post a hand where my action worked for a change :) I passed on vugraph, replicating Townsend's action in the other room, for +100. None of the other 14 tables defended 3♦, although not all will have opened it on Jx xx KQJ7xxx xx. Most went -50 or -100 in 3NT or 3NT X.

Teammates bid 2D-P-4D, which allowed East in with a double. One pair told me they didn't get in after the auction started 2D-P-4C "Transfer to your major", I would have thought both hands could have acted there!

I really doubt our diamond holding has that much affect on the probabilty of that auction occuring. I went for AJxx, agree with others who say that is marginal.

I make it 14-11 in favour of weak NT, and 17-8 in favour of opening the major. I haven't bothered counting the INV minors bit 'cos I don't really care. The 11 strong NT voters are 9-2 in favour of opening the major.

Eh? I thought one usually goes for risky leads at IMPs and safe at MPs... Auto spade lead IMO.

Was this an answer to my question in the post above it? If yes: A white preempt can be weaker, so more reason for us not to pass? 4H at green can be based on less shape, or a weaker suit, which will tend to reduce the number of tricks they can make much more than it will increase the number of tricks we can make.

You may well think it is terrible to bid at any vul, but I still feel I should clarify for you that we are at favourable :(

I would like to amend this post: any number of ♣, (except 2 or 6+) is not a bug. 1NT >>> 5♣

Playing specific two-suiters, I would be much more likely to make my two-suited bid - firstly (and obviously) because partner is better placed knowing both of my suits, and secondly because I can sometimes bid my three-card fragment on the next round. Whether the second point is relevant depends on the strength of the hand and the order of the suits.
