  1. Ok, think I've nailed it, I've gone back to 2C as 5+hcp 5+clubs F1. 1S:2D = hearts, 1S:2H = diamonds. Possibly could include a bad raise to 2S in the 2H bid, who is it that plays that?
  2. How would you play 1S:2D and 1S:2H, Glen?
  3. Thanks, this might well be what I need, I was considering 2C as nat F1 any strength earlier but this feels better - although presumably 1S:1N, 2H:3C is GF bal/clubs so we are sometimes back to an unbalanced hand doing the asking.
  4. I too thought they would be at first, but realised I was basically using responder's 2NT rebids twice. Eg 1H:1S! 2D - now 2S = GF relay, 2N = natural invite 1S:1N, 2H - now 2N is needed as both a GF relay and a natural invite Obviously we don't actually play 1H:1S, 2D as natural but this shows the problem in a nutshell
  5. Yeah we need forcing bids, lol. I subscribe to the theory that it is best for unbalanced hands to describe rather than ask, relaying on unbalanced hands doesn't work well IME. Think with some messing around I can get 1S:1N, 2H:3C as bal GF, pretty high though obviously.
  6. How would you relay over whichever of 1S:1N, 2H and 1S:1N, 2S shows a two-suiter?
  7. Either C/D/H in some order or lose one of the minors and play 2H as a good raise. eg over 1H I play 1S = ART F1, includes balanced GFs 1N = 5+spades 2C = 6+diamonds weak or 5+diamonds unbal GF 2D = 6+clubs INV or 5+clubs unbal GF
  8. Why assume that a pair who are capable of perpetrating the auction in the OP would bid sensibly if East had passed over 2H? It depends who the players are, but I would be tempted to assign percentages of 2H, 3S, 4S and 3D. I would also like to issue two PPs.
  9. As title. I've made 1H:1S as a kind of relay Kaplan Inversion work nicely but I can't quite get 1S:1N to work.
  10. This is what I thought at the table. A spade was no good, a diamond would've done the business, they have Qx in dummy Kxx in hand. LHO was a pro, surprised he didn't protect with 1NT tbh [AKJx Txx Q9 QT8x].
  11. Yes, in fact my "other methods" involve not reaching this position! Sorry.
  12. Slight issue; One of the kings is onside.
  13. I don't understand this comment, were you trying to reply to someone else?
  14. Unless I am missing something, 5D is much, much better than 3NT opposite this hand. 2S should be completely artificial in this sequence, its use as a natural bid is even less than most 4th suit bids. Something like 1D:1S, 2D is a trickier start, as you may still have a 4-4 heart fit.
  15. But surely now that I've pointed out that it's the right thing to do, everyone will start doing it? B-) Failing that - Josh, I'm looking for opps for later, fancy it?
  16. I asked a top class but v.conservative player [guess who?] about 3NT and he quoted me xx Kx xx AKJxxxx, certainly made me feel like I didn't have my 3C bid initially :P We play 1D:2D as WJS in hearts or GF unbal with clubs, could've led to a fun auction.
  17. You really think my systemic bid with GF clubs is 2C? B-) My hand was only xxx - JTxx AKJxxx, so 3C already a slight stretch. 1NT felt bad and I thought 3C might keep the hearts out.
  18. I was 3046, felt like if pard couldn't make a pen dbl I wanted to back in. Obviously bidding 3C on the first round can go wrong when pard is unbal but I couldn't see any sensible alternatives.
  19. 1D-P-3C-3H P-P-?? 1D = nat unbal or any 11-13 NT (without a 5cM) 3C = natural invitational What would you expect bids to mean if this came up at the table? It feels like the situation would be identical playing RM Precision.
  20. [hv=pc=n&s=s986hj976dj843cj2&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1d(nat%20unbal%20or%20any%2011-13%20NT)pp(rare%2C%20usually%20has%20%21D%20tolerance)dp2np3nppp]133|200|Your lead? Does it make any difference if RHO tanked before bidding 2NT?[/hv]
  21. I can't tell if you are pointing this out as an argument for or against responding 1NT!
  22. 332 was 20%, 303 was 16%. Obviously that assumes that the results in state A and the results in state B aren't completely independent.
