Card combination...
smerriman replied to Dinarius's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
If LHO has JT9 left, that means he played the 2 on the first trick, and you played the 4. You still have AQ, and lose one more trick. If LHO played the 9, you covered with the queen and he only has JT2 left. Now you finesse again, and lose one more trick. -

I'm afraid you're mistaken :) I think you missed my post above - as I said, if West plays the 2 you duck; in all other cases you play the Queen, and then return and repeat leading towards the Ace. You only lose two tricks to the singleton K offside. If West plays a middle card, playing the Ace or ducking costs an extra trick to the 5-0 split without ever gaining. In essence, you are using the first round 'duck' to take a triple finesse against West's JT9. If you lose to the King, you get to repeat it, which gains the trick back you apparently lost to the singleton King, but also an extra one with the 5-0 split. It's quite a cool line (and the unique optimal one). -

These are both just the tiniest bit inferior to leading towards the queen instantly. As above, this doesn't cost when there is a singleton king offside, while each of your lines costs a trick with a 5-0 split. -

You won't. As above the best MP line is immediately low to the queen (unless West plays the 2, in which case you just duck). If East wins the King, you play low to the Ace (unless West plays the 2). You only lose 2 tricks. -
The above was fresh (started and completed within an hour of when I posted it). Here's another one started and completed in the last 10 minutes: http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:ab50d893.cdf0.11e8.85b0.0cc47a39aeb4-1539329418 - see the 1D opener by human South on the first board. But sounds like the fix is already done when it's released.
-
We just had a thread on this.. that's definitely not the case.
-
It does look like it might only apply to the mobile/HTML version - but it's still happening. If you go to most recently completed challenges (eg http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tarchive.php?m=h&o=challengea ) and open up some hands, you'll see it - eg see 1♥ here from one started and completed within the last hour or so: https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?bbo=y&lin=pn%7Cjxxydwg%2CRobot%2CRobot%2CRobot%7Cst%7C%7Cmd%7C3S2HA9432DAKQ84CKT%2CSQ3HKQ85D92CJ8542%2CSAJT9H7DJT653CAQ9%2CSK87654HJT6D7C763%7Csv%7C0%7Cah%7CBoard%201%7Cmb%7C1D%7Can%7CMinor%20suit%20opening%20--%203%2B%20%21D%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C1H%7Can%7COne%20over%20one%20--%204%20%20%21H%3B%206%20%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C1S%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21D%3B%203-%20%21H%3B%204%2B%20%21S%3B%2011%2B%20HCP%3B%2012-18%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C3N%7Can%7C4-5%20%21H%3B%205-%20%21S%3B%2014-21%20HCP%3B%20partial%20stop%20in%20%21C%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CH9%7C

Card combination...
smerriman replied to Dinarius's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Actually it doesn't even say you should duck. Suitplay agrees that cashing the Ace and low to the Queen are both the identical 34% (with low to the queen, unless they play the 2 when you should duck, being the best MP line). -
The bids don't show exactly 5 hearts and 4 spades - that appears to be a recently introduced bug in the descriptions - should be 5+ and 4+, since there are many 5-5 hands that you wouldn't want to use Michaels on. But yeah, 2♠ is crazy.
-
All handviewer links (and indeed the previews under Hands + Results in the interface) have lost plus symbols in South's alerts (not other players, oddly).
-
Perhaps people think differently over a 1♦ opener, but a BridgeWinners poll for a balancing 2nt over a 1♠ opener showed less than 10% of people voting for it showing the minors: https://bridgewinners.com/article/view/balancing-2nt/
-
This double bid has no power enough to force to game
smerriman replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
That's what Lycier is saying. As a passed hand, how can the alert say double is forcing to 3nt? -
And then you would have missed a cold slam? Like pescetom I'm with GIB here. We've already established that the alert was correct, so the main thing being debated is whether GIB should show its void or not. It seems to me this will gain more often than it loses.
-
Is there a reason you can't post the original hand? I get the same results as nullve. Even if I force North to pass instead of 4♠ the first time, it bids 4♠ the second time. (And the alert for 4♥ doesn't say 2 clubs. It says 2 or less clubs.)
-
5NT doesn't show 2 keycards. It shows an even number of keycards.
-
why are good hands so hard to bid properly
smerriman replied to gszes's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
It may be playable, but it's certainly not standard. Every reference online I can find about cheaper minor second negative says a new suit by opener is forcing: https://www.betterbridge.com/misc/StandardArticles/Standard200507.pdf https://www.larryco.com/bridge-articles/general-approach-2c-opening-part-2 http://www.bridge7.com/xbric5.aspx -
No, it's definitely a result of a simulation - basic GIB passes 3NT. (Simulations are identical at different tables.)
-
I don't understand inverted minors either.. Seems a pretty normal 1NT to me.
-
It's a bug with flash. Clicking in the URL bar, or switching tabs as suggested, will resolve it.
-
It doesn't start for another 4 hours so that might be the problem :)
-
Diamonds are trumps, right? 5NT - 6♣ shows the king of clubs without bypassing 6♦.
-
Easy - 5NT :) Having partner bid a specific king always seems more useful to me than knowing how many kings they have.
