  2. In the laws of bridge, you aren't entitled to know what the bidder meant by the bid. Solely what the partnership understanding of the bid is. Of course, playing with randoms online, many don't understand the rules regarding alerts and just ignore requests for explanations; that's the responsibility of a TD to sort out.
  3. That is not the standard meaning of redouble in the slightest. Redouble highly suggests penalising the opponents, and as miamijd wrote above, telling partner they are wrong by bidding immediately has a very specific meaning.
  4. If 2NT is good/bad, presumably showing a weak hand with 5-5 in the black suits, what would 3♣ be (normally that hand) or pass then pulling double to 3♣ (strong version of that hand) be? I would just say 2N doesn't exist.

  6. I guess the "reason" for 2♥ being forcing to 3♠ is that it knows there's combined strength for that level. But having 2♠ as forcing makes no sense, so I guess it's just the description at fault.
  7. Right, but whether or not you choose to pass 3♣ when partner is one-suited with clubs, or play 3NT, seems unrelated to any weakness in Cappeletti (and also unrelated to whether you respond 2♦ or 2NT). Won't that apply in any system?
  8. That's a fair point, but give partner one diamond less and you have the same problem. What is the downside in bidding 2NT from your perspective?
  9. Based on my research above the "standard" meaning will never lead to 3NT if partner has clubs, given they don't have a maximum; it will lead to 3♣, same as if you bid 2♦. What is your interpretation of the standard meaning?
  10. It's such a rare bid I haven't really considered it before. Of the first 6 links from Google results: - BridgeBum does not list 2NT at all - Wikipedia does not list 2NT at all (only 2NT as a second bid after the standard 2♦ relay) - This PDF and this page both say it shows 11+ points and support for all four suits, inviting game - Pattaya Bridge does not list 2NT at all So, I'm not sure about "standard".
  11. Round 2 has now been added. The deadline for round 2 is October 12, 11:59pm EST.
  12. Points go to the 2NT bidders. [hv=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?s=SAT832HAK92DAJ94C&w=SKQ9HQJ3DT3CAKJ96&n=S5H64DKQ87652CQT4&d=w&v=n&a=1N2CP2DPPP]400|300[/hv] If you bid 2♦, you feel slightly embarrassed in claiming all 13 tricks a few seconds later - though not as much as if you took it for granted that partner had clubs, and decided to pass 2♣. (This was a robot challenge, and I'll admit I did the latter :( ) My first thought was that this was just a freak hand, and attempting to find it would be outweighed by all the times partner really did have clubs. But in retrospect, I came to the same conclusion as the last two posters above - 2NT ostensibly shows a balanced hand and asks partner to bid game with a maximum. But you know partner can't have a maximum, so will correct to their suit. If this is clubs, you're in the same spot as if you bid 2♦; if not, you're gold. Like Felicity said, a number of different bids came through my mind - except somehow I didn't contemplate 2NT at all!
  13. As you would need to have gained an impossible 25 IMPs on the last two boards to have a chance of qualifying, this has turned out to not affect the results.
  14. [hv=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?s=SAT832HAK92DAJ94C&d=w&v=n&a=1N!(15-17)2C!(Single suited)P]200|300[/hv] What's your plan for the auction? (IMPs, but would MPs be different?)
  15. I will make a decision on the result at the end of the round.
  16. GIB never finds a grand. The other day it had 13 top tricks including a long running suit and all aces and kings, and still stopped in 6.

  19. Read again. 4♦ promises the diamond ace.

  22. This is only tangentially related, but I always find it a little odd how making 1Nx+2 gives you a worse score than 3NT. Doesn't apply to 2Nx+1 though!
  23. Thanks, had deleted the formula from a couple of cells last event due to incomplete matches. Fixed now (the 0 is correct though).
  24. I was really tempted to rig the random number generator to not put GIB in my pool :( Thought I was going to lose by a lot more though. https://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:fc902fae.d365.11e9.ab16.0cc47a39aeb4-1568077059&u=smerriman smerriman 20 - 30 GIB https://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:1ad59d33.d2e3.11e9.ab16.0cc47a39aeb4-1568020846&u=smerriman smerriman 47 - 29 Muddylane
