  2. I present these three videos from YouTube that deal with the integration method by parts (I believe that the reader already has knowledge of the subject and knows what integral calculus and derivation are) starting from the classical way (en passant Clyde Elton Love known here for writing a good book on the squeeze play he was also a math professor at the University of Michigan and also wrote "Differential And Integral Calculus" -Forgotten Books, www.forgottenbooks.org). Starting from the first one that presents the formula of the classic method, the one called Tabular is then explained while the other two (without English subtitles) are instead 'shortcuts', ie shortcuts that allow you to have the solution of the calculation faster: 1) 2) 3)https://youtu.be/DBn-Da_LCDo

David Sassoli: protection declaration. Advertisement NEWS European Parliament President David Sassoli dies after hospitalization The 65-year-old had been seriously ill in hospital for more than two weeks. He died at a hospital in Aviano in northern Italy. Sassoli had spent more than two weeks in hospital The president of the European Parliament David Sassoli has died, his office announced early on Tuesday morning. He passed away after a "serious complication" related to his immune system. "The president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, passed away at 1.15 a.m. on January 11 at the hospital in Aviano, Italy," his spokesman, Roberto Cuillo said on Twitter. "The date and place of the funeral will be communicated in the next few hours," he added. On Monday, the EU parliament confirmed he had been admitted to hospital in Italy on December 26. In September 2021, during a plenary session of the parliament, the 65-year-old came down with a bad case of pneumonia. He was married with two children. Tributes to David Sassoli Tributes soon poured in for Sassoli, an Italian social democrat. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz lamented his loss, saying "Europe has lost a dedicated parliament president, Italy a shrewd politician, and Germany a good friend." Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock praised Sassoli for "always succeeding in bridging divides." She wrote on Twitter that "we will not forget his commitment to dealing humanely with refugees," EU Council President Charles Michel called the fellow politician a "sincere and passionate European. We already miss his human warmth, his generosity, his friendliness and his smile.'' President of the Euopean Commission Ursula von der Leyen said she was "deeply saddened by the terrible loss of a great European and proud Italian." In a post on Twitter, she described Sassoli as a "compassionate journalist, an outstanding President of the European Parliament and a dear friend." "What a big shock and a big loss. I am deeply saddened. He left us too early. My condolences to his family! Dear David, Rest In Peace," tweeted German MEP Ismail Ertug. Another MEP, Italian Paolo Borchia, said he was "stunned" by the news as it was so "sudden." A former journalist, Sassoli was first elected as a member of the European Parliament in 2009. He won another term in 2014 and served as the Parliament's vice-president. He then became president of the 705-seat legislature in 2019. The parliament sits for a five-year term between elections, but the president of the body serves for half that time, and Sassoli had indicated he would not seek reelection. jsi/aw (EFE, dpa, AFP, Reuters)

  6. I think this problem of finding a partner who plays the same bidding system as you, can be temporarily solved in this way:the search box currently serves to find players by Nickname / Surname via profile. Now if the system name in brackets (i.e. SEF/Precision/ACOL) were also added, the search would find all those who indicated (SEF) reading it as Nickname / Surname. All this one could be organized by inserting an informatica "field" close the Nickname where you can also enter your preferred system, which already happens when you create the account for the BBO Forum (see the Previous Field space). This is my idea but we must keep in mind if it is feasible by BBO otherwise each player should provide for the insertion independently to facilitate the search as already indicated by me.(Lovera)
  7. This hand is too much in the middle of the first range of first level openings and I should devalue it too much to declare pass (the facts have confirmed me). Perhaps otherwise (but always considering the context in which a speech is placed) we could consider what you said if the hand was at the limit between an opening or not so there would not be too much to regret if you were to make the wrong choice.
  8. As much as I try to understand how many want to pass, I must say that I cannot understand them easily. The hand in question has 14 points also counting the shape or, applying Bergen, is in the range 18 + (= is 19) and therefore must be opened but not two weak because these hands cannot be opened if they have a void or four cards in a major suit. Moreover, the fact that S has passed makes it clear that the overall strength is distributed among the other three players and therefore we can also envisage a possible defense in the event that N has a hand so strong as to compensate for the weakness of the partner, which is perhaps less probable. These indications should prompt us to bid 1 ♦. It would also be useful to see how the other players expressed themselves at the table, even if the final result leads to say that here they have achieved the aim of stopping the auction at 3 ♦ with a good score for them.
  9. "Already from 1929, the date of the first publication of the Blue Book, the Culbertson system, the famous "approach forcing", began to spread throughout America with a beating drum. Everyone was talking about his team's victory in the famous Vanderbilt Cup and in other tournaments. Gradually, thanks largely to his extraordinary sense of publicity, Culbertson managed to make his name synonymous with "contract", this new bridge that Harold Vanderbilt had endeavored to introduce to all the great American clubs. But the unprecedented success provoked a violent reaction from bridge writers; the cyclone "Culbertson" threatened to make them disappear. They thought their only chance of survival was to band together and publish another system. And it was precisely for this reason that in the summer of 1930, the "Official System" saw the light. In this system there were neither "honors" nor "quick tricks" and the strength of the No Trump was evaluated according to the score of the points 4,3,2,1 that Milton Work had just created. There were no openings of "strong two" but a "two clubs" on which the longest color was given. Finally, the mandatory biddings were totally different". As for the clash between Lenz and Jacoby this happened because he had performed a psychic that did not give (to Lenz) any indication while Jacoby reproached Lenz for having badly counterplayed by declaring that for him this was the last time he played (he was replaced by Winfield Ligget jr) but at that moment "the result of the match, however, was no longer in play because the advantage had gradually increased (after being behind by 7,000 points) until it reached 20,000 points (at the end of the match won with 8,980 points)".[bridge dei Campioni-Bridge A' La Une pagg. 64 and 68 by Jose' Le Dentu](Lovera)
  10. In fact it is so and the Law of Symmetry applies perfectly (it can also be read in another way). What Crane's recounted seems to refine what was said in Simon's book, namely that an imperfect shuffling leads to attributing the Queen over the Knave. However, to have a perfect shuffling it is necessary to use the so-called "American" cutting method seven consecutive times.
  11. This I believe I have personally tested to be true (reversing the assumption and finding where it works) and should relate to perfectly "mirror" hands or similar to this ones by varying only one card such as i.e. 5-4-3-1 or 5-4-2-2.
  12. The two articles are related: the first comes from Culbertson's book and concerns the Law of Symmetry while the second confirms the Blackwood Theory, i.e. when to make an impasse or when to play A and K (this depends on how the more short suit is distributed between the two hands).(Lovera)
  13. Why does no one think that 5 ♣ can unblock the situation, meaning a good supporting hand obviously in ♦ and ♠? At the limit, 5 ♥ would be played. E's Kxx in ♣ perfectly displays S's hand (= 7-2-2-2 with A in ♣) while partner's 4 ♥ is read as AK 8.th at least.
  14. This one is already known as Seres squeeze (by Tim Seres) where two menaces are in unfavoureble position(=1sf, 1sf or controlled in the lower hand) with an high trump (in both hands) and also the trump is squeezed!(Lovera)
  15. This would have made the situation more evident to ♠ and ♣. Forrester played for the final elimination looking for the cut and discard that did not happen. But the situations of impasse (here expasse) are also indicative for an end-of-hand play such as squeeze or the elimination that solves the problem. It was a question of visualizing the final E2 or twin entry (simple squeeze) ending which however required the rectification of the count which could not be carried out and which therefore had to be delayed after the squeeze card had been played for the two losers delayed duck indicated.
  16. So I want to say this: 1) the slight odds on is limited to the possibility that E puts the ♠A even if you play for A in W (remaining the goal of small versus small). 2) When in the plane of game (as the only resource) you choose because you see the possibility of actually making the squeeze (and this is my personal certainty) with good probability this plan will be realized most of the times to the satisfaction of both the part that realizes it and the one that proposed it as a gambling problem.
  17. As for the bidding S has superaccepted ♥ indicating the long a ♣. As for the game, Forrester is interested in having ♠ K winning because from ♣ he does not get more than two tricks unless W discards two ♣ and therefore tends to play for that hand by moving from dummy. Properly, the game adopted is an indirect or preliminary two-loser squeeze following the defense play.(Lovera)
  18. Perhaps this one can be usefull for you:http://kwbridge.com/js.htm The fact that opp did not bid 7 ♦ had the advantage for the defense of not having pushed N / S to bid the grand slam.(Lovera)
  19. I would be of the opinion that the opponents are short in the major suits. As developed, N's bid would appear to be of the type 2/1 with the fifth Spades at the K in a balanced hand. The lack of 2NT Jacoby suggests that there are no conditions and, therefore, N may have the third Hearts to the Ace. The two hands would therefore combine very well, thus having the suit of Hearts to discard any possible losers.
  20. I believe that it is a question of not losing more than one trick of Spades, one of Hearts and one of Diamonds., Now, in trump suit, with Jxx vs Ax we would have two losers and therefore this should be ruled out. Perhaps the play must be set up in order to take advantage of tricks in dummy in order to have a restart to play the Diamonds from which to obtain the remaining tricks to fullfill the contract and possibly be able to play them as safety.
  21. I also agree with this because it was what I was saying when I talked about the surplus in ♦ and ♣. It all begins when opener bids 1♦ because this means that the Queen in S has +1 surplus. Then the situation of the suit of ♣ leads, in a plastic or more optimistic view, to consider 9 as 10 which would involve +2 surplus again to have 4 honors in a suit and this remains valid even between the two hands in the probable hypothesis whether the partner has the Ace or the 10. You can see that this same situation occurs in the opener's hand for the suit of ♦ (+2) which moves the points towards the top of the range. Obviously these calculations must already be foreseen in the system regarding the evaluation of the hand.
  22. I once said that the sight of the two hands can orient in the sense of facilitating the resolution of a bidding problem only that afterwards one has to start again to see how to use the information obtained from the examination of the two hands compatibly with the bid at the table, i.e. which it would be a likely bid without seeing the two hands. Here the search for a different bid from that of the suit of ♠ combined with the HCP and the fact that opener has bid ♦ then leads to the jump bid (re-evaluating ♣). So does the opener who has a hand between two ranges and a support to ♣ with four cards to Ace.
  23. I do not understand why to insist on Spades when it is seen that it does not lead to a slam. Moreover, the answer does not seem to be adequate because the jump support requires a score of 18-19 points and therefore it would be possible to choose 2 Spades (both from S and N the suit is poor). Instead it was not found that the answering hand is strong having 16 points in high cards and with surpluses at ♦ and ♣ easily reaches 19 points so as to take into account the jump bid of 3 ♣(=SJS). The partner, preferring to be investiged can cue-bidding 4 ♦ and then 4NT, 5NT-7 ♣ are easy to reach.
  24. Also I think you have to see the basic application of 2NTJ with flexibility and a more speculative spirit towards your system. For example, reserving both the bid of 3NT and that of the raise to the level of 3 of the trump meaning of forcing and, for the first bid, of balanced hands (the usual three balanced beyond 5-4 and 6-3-2- 2) with a good 16 / + points while for the rise (same points) but with a single / void(unbalanced). Also take a look at my topic Two No Trump Jacoby (in Intermediate and ..)which however requires the preservation of the jump answer at level 3 with a pointing of 14-18 indicating a strong and balanced hand and, therefore, with the bid of 2NT you come to know that the partner has an unbalanced hand. Regarding this topic the opener's hand is worth 17 points (re-evaluating the K of ♥ by one point and also counting the shape) and therefore requires the answer of 3 ♥ (= unbalanced with a single / void).(Lovera)
  25. As already requested, I would like to have some comments on what I have proposed (also in order not to make a speech without any reply) which can be of help or address to possibly redefine the path better or even just confirmation so as to proceed with a first analysis since the hands "extracted" (with the indicated characteristics) are not few in the gallery (about a hundred or so for the useful ones). Thanks in advance.
