  1. While I certainly see your point, with favorable vulnerability and given that 2D takes up maximum room over the 1H opener, I would overcall.
  2. I agree on both points. I see no reason for the 3S bid. And I certainly would not be forcing partner to bid at the 3 level at unfavorable with the W hand.
  3. I agree with Lycier's points 2 and, especially, 3. This is a textbook responsive double. Given that you are not forced to act, 2NT is natural barring some other agreement
  4. It will be interesting to see if GIB passes 3D if this sequence does occur. I agree it's the right sequence playing with a human partner.
  5. Another very poorly thought out GIB sequence. My belief - GIB E has too many HCP to pass according to its programming, but then it ridiculously passes 2S. It can't anticipate that the obvious problem with doubling is that you cannot handle a S advance. If it is going to make an offshape call based on HCP, 2NT is far better than double. I wish there were a way to highlight posts on this board as those requiring immediate attention from BBO, as opposed to more general discussions. This is certainly the former!
  6. In my opinion you (and everyone here) would do well to take Stephen's comments about bidding conventions as being correct unless you can specifically argue otherwise. His comments are very knowledgeable. I have good solid knowledge in that area as well, but he is, I believe, currently active in live tournaments while I haven't played in one for seven years.
  7. Just curious, did you make it? I know 4H was a bad bid but it looks makeable with the very friendly lie of the cards.
  8. I think this qualifies for the top 10 most bizarre bids I've seen GIB make.
  9. I would agree with your comment regarding GIB's action. My comment is about your own - your hand is an overcall, not a double. 15 relatively balanced HCP is not nearly enough to double and bid. While my comment applies equally to playing with a human or GIB partner, you will find that GIB often will jump to game after a suit bid by partner, but almost never does so after a double.
  10. I think that Stephen doesn't agree with your side points Lycier, but I certainly do expect that he, like myself, would prefer a 2NT rebid from GIB.
  11. GIB would raise to 4H with nothing. 3H shows something. You have a moose and need to move to slam.
  12. I don't know any such thing. I wouldn't dream of a voluntary 3S raise directly over 3H with this hand. GIB did just fine here.
  13. It's ironic, given all the times GIB makes wildly to ridiculously aggressive slam moves, that it does not move to slam on this hand where any novice would bid one. And with partner having cue bid the SA!!!
  14. Passing is certainly a thought, although you would rather play it from your side. We can all wish this was a bad mistake by GIB standards.
  15. It could be clearer, yes. But, the description mentions ♠ length and point count only, not ♣ length, so it should be taken as artificial.
  16. I don't mind showing the C fit with 2H but not bidding 2NT next is very poor. I believe that Georgi has said that bidding 2NT after a minor LR+ - whether it be an inverted raise, or a cue bid in comp, is forcing to game. A very poor method indeed, as can be seen with the myriad of hands that have been posted here where a sound NT contract could not be reached. PLEASE, BBO, make 2NT invitational in these sequences.
  17. Standard rules of reversing apply where responder kept the bidding open. If responder passes the opening bid, no rebid by opener is forcing.
  18. Agree that psych likely had nothing to do with it. And yes, another hand where GIB could easily have used Blackwood but failed to do so, and thus got too high. Another issue that has been brought up here many times, but never addressed by BBO.
  19. Surprising. I have never seen GIB do anything like this. If GIB ever passes a hand like this as my partner, it will be the last hand I ever play with it.
  20. Surprising. I have never seen GIB do anything like this.
  21. Clearly, 3C is the worst possible choice. I am fine with it passing 1NT, but at least 2NT would make some sense.
  22. True enough. So presumably a pass to the reopening double, then 1H? Should not reach game on that auction do you think?
  23. Good point, I have seen this several times. Should be addressed by BBO. Mind you I wouldn't try it, since W doesn't always have a penalty pass and you are likely to get in trouble in another way.
