  1. Yeah, it was me... I've been away from the bridge scene for over a year now, but I decided to check back in. This simulation started a pretty good thread a while ago and I was able to find it. Brings back some old memories. Actually some good stuff in there after revisiting it. Tysen
  2. As much as I love participating in discussions at this site, I'm afraid I'm going to have to say goodbye. I've just started a new job and don't really have the freedom of checking the internet from work nearly as much as my old job. Longer hours and other stuff going on in my life means that I don't have so much free time at home either. Maybe I'll drop in every now and see if a topic that interests me comes up, but it probably won't be too often. I've enjoyed my time here and think that I've made some good friends. Thank you all. Tysen
  3. I actually chose the ♣9, which I think is the right lead at IMPs, but the wrong one here. I think I was a little optimistic about my chances to knock out the club honors with my entries. However, I think you have to try for that line at IMPs. Declarer took 12 tricks when a high spade keeps declarer to 10.
  4. My hand has upgraded to about 10 points. Actually I'd call it about 9.75. :) I'm passing since this is MP. The field is going to be in 2♠ and we are in a very good spot. I'd invite if this was IMPs. Also, I would have responded 2♠ instead of 1NT. Tysen
  5. Similar questions have been asked several times before. The general concensus is that you'll get a better result in NT in real life than the DD solver predicts. Also the amount of information you reveal in the auction is very important too. Tysen
  6. [hv=d=e&v=b&s=skqj4ha3djc987643]133|100|Scoring: MP Our side never bids: 1♥ 1♠ 1NT 3NT All Pass[/hv] What's your lead? Do you have the same lead at IMPs?
  7. A club, but a heart probably isn't bad. Don't like any other lead.
  8. Only 2NT. Your clubs aren't pulling their weight since LHO bid them, even though they are a likely opening lead.
  9. Peter Cheung did several years ago. On average real play takes 0.1 tricks more than DD. For slams, usually the DD declarers will do better. In partscores, the real declarers will do better. For games, they are very close. More details here. Tysen
  10. I would think this would make partner scared to bid a major game opposite this double. Is that true?
  11. Assuming partner is usually sound, I think 2♦ is superior to both 1♠ and 1NT for the simple reason that it is a better description of your hand and allows partner to make a more informed decision if he's interested in slam. Tysen
  12. Has anyone ever played RUNT (Really Unusual NT) where the 1NT overcall is basically 0-10 takeout? I've been playing it for a few months now and I love it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had any experiences with it. Tysen
  13. As opener I don't like showing the singleton A. I'll bid 3NT which for me is no shortness and a "medium" hand (16-17 HCP). After a 3♦ rebid I agree with 4♥ showing minimum. Tysen
  14. I don't think 3♥ is all that bad. I don't think we have a game in clubs or NT. Tysen
  15. I don't have GIB on this computer right now, but I'll try and remember to look it up later. Maybe someone else with GIB that's familiar with the bridge.exe program can run it for me and see what it considers the doubler should have. I always take simulations with a grain of salt, but they are still worth thinking about.
  16. I chose pass, but I decided to do a little GIB simulation and see what it thought. GIB thinks 3♠ is a clear winner by a very wide margin. Pass is its 4th choice after 4♦ and 3NT respectively. The reason seems to be because of the complete lack of defense. GIB expects to go down more often than not in 3♠ (average predicted score -71) but expects 3♥ to make frequently as well (average score -356). Interesting... Tysen
  17. [hv=d=s&v=e&s=skjxxhxdaxcakqjxx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] 1♣ (1♠) 2♥ 2♠ 2NT 3♣ 3♥ ? If I can bid 4♣ minorwood, that would be my choice. If I could bid 4NT regular BW, that would be okay too. If we're playing keycard it should be for hearts in this auction and I don't want to do that. I could go with a 4♦ cue but that suggests hearts as well. Or make a leap of faith and try 5NT. I'll end up going with 3♠ though. Hopefully partner will rebid 3NT and I can make a quant raise to 4NT. Tysen
  18. 1430 when the stronger hand bids it, 3041 when the weaker hand does. :P
  19. Shouldn't that be inverted keycard rolling void-gerber in this auction?
  20. Hey, I play against a regular partnership that has the "4♣ always Gerber" agreement. They seem to like it... Not saying they get good results...
  21. 2♠. I think I'm a little too strong for 3NT.
  22. According to Lawrence's 2/1, a jump now to 3♥ should show specifically 5-5 with good suits. That seems like a good start. The continuations aren't that pretty if partner doesn't support though. I'll try 4♠ over a 3NT or 4♣ rebid by partner. Tysen
