I need some advice During a team game, being played as a round robin event, there was a need to make a substitution during the bidding. When the sub joined the table he doubled and without any discussion his partner passed. This is the hand and bidding [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sajh874d872ckt532&w=sk642h93dkt5caqj6&e=s9853haq6dq643c97&s=sqt7hkjt52daj9c84]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] - - p p 1NT p p 2H p p X p p p the substitution was made during the bidding. The EW partnership after substitution had no sytem discussion at all double and pass by both was undiscussed. this gained 12 imps for the NS partnership in this match. should I be thinking of making any adjustments to this board.

Absolutely abysmal ... but then I was there too and not much better -
Hi I hope someone can help me. I have a number of LIN files that I would like to post on a web page but I am struggling to know what HTML code I need to make the display a window on the receiving computer. I am a complete newby when it comes to HTML and need to know what file structure I need and where my original file resides on the web server. I hope this makes some sense to some helpful HTML expert out there Geof

:P OH MY GOODNESS  Last night on the UK midnight news I think I heard that 2 of the Lavazza team have been excluded from the European Open Championship. Was I dreaming or has this infact happened ? Why do some of the worlds top players feel the need to cheat? Maybe from this short post you can tell how shocked I am, I feel cheated that the game I love could be placed in the world spotlight for such a stupid reason. Geof

Meeting in the UK
geofspa replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hi Wayne Geof has just been given permission from the boss here {Joy} to say that we will be able to come that weekend. If you need any help arranging tables organising games or any of the other trivia of the weekend just give a shout. Will you be trying a duplicate bridge tourney if so I would like to offer a prize of 5 bottles of wine (ulteria motives as I like wine :D ) . -
Ok so I went out and read TD101 ,,, now I know swiss is a timed movement ;-)
-
Hi all Setting up a tournament when Swiss movement is selected then the timed option can not be checked. Would anyone know if there is a way to set swiss and have timed boards ? Geof

Is 4NT always Blackwood?
geofspa replied to Walddk's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
If playing texas and jacoby transfers I would play that 1. quantative slam try 2. mild slam try asking opener to rebid something with a max hand 3. rkcbw ... or any other flavour of BW agreed with partner -

On the auction as occured at the table I sat for a long time pondering as to whether to X or bid 4NT ... from my stand point either bid could be best as my partner may well have a weak michaels bid, or am I looking at it wrongly in that if he has a weak hand we need to play in one of the minors.

Further to may last .... with an unbalanced hand I tend to look at losers and quick tricks. Here I have 7 losers and 2.5 QT an opener for me in any seat. It does get difficult to find a rebid if partner (as here is likely) bids 1♠ I can't bid 2♦ (a reverse) but would have to rebid a poor 5 card ♣ suit. As it turns out this would work out very well but that is "resulting"
-
I sat North for this one and for the life of me I can't see why I didn't open!
-
Hi can you expalin how it evaluates to 18 please? At the table and without a calculator I would probably assess this hand as a 17+ holding a good long suit and holding most of my HCP in aces and kings. I like to use K&R evaluation tool which gives this hand 18.4 (better than my off the cuff evaluation) I am not sure of protocols of posting web addresses here but the K&R evaluation tool is available online and if you would like the URL contact me, there is also a page that shows how hand assement is made by K&R

Ok so the consesus is 4♠ I can live with that. What if anything should partner do holding this hand on hearing 4♠[hv=s=sk863ha53dtcaqt93]133|100|[/hv] Sitting North NS White EW Red Dealer South Bidding so far 4♠p? Please comment
-
[hv=s=saqj97542hqt7dc54]133|100|[/hv] scoring IMPS N/S white E/W red As dealer sitting south and holding this hand what might be opened, I will post partners hand later and ask what might be bid after some responses to this.

Thanks for taking the time to read an add your comments. Turning off lobby chat does not stop "broadcast" messages, it is the original and probably the easiest way for BBO staff to contact everyone no matter what their chat status is. I personally have no objection what ever to vugraph messages, infact I think they are 100% necessary as a live game attracts such a huge audience. If the tournament directors that have broadcast facilities were to start a private club, and I would have little objection to a few broadcast messages while they are being set up, messages can be specifically targeted at those members that have an interest as they would be able to join the club. Also LMM messages can be sent to all members so that any special announcements can be seen when logging in. In the same way the club news section of a private club could show a schedual of tournaments, congratulations to winners, types of tournament, etc... I believe it is possible that "multiple managers" can be set up so the burden of club business does not fall on the shoulders of one person. This is the way the BIL manages its affairs and as far as I can see it works well. If the space for private clubs is short would it not be possible to "monitor" presently set up clubs as there are currently 56 private clubs set up, and as a regular visitor to this section of BBO I get the feeling that some of them are very poorly subscribed and rarely if ever have anyone using them. Well I never expected to get any response from my original post so 11 responses was a surprise to say the least Good Bridging everyone Geof

 Hello everyone Assuming anyone is going to read this. I have just attended a teaching session that lasted 1 hour and in that time there have been 10 broadcast announcements. Apart form interrupting the flow of the lesson I was attending I find it irritating :) to say the least that I have to get these messages at regular intervals from tournament directors for tournaments that I have little or NO interest in playing in. I do know that BBO staff have to be able to contact all online members from time to time and that the broadcast message is a vital part of BBO communication. As a member of the BIL I know that the BIL management can send club messages that are not seen by everyone online at the time. would it not be possible for a private club or clubs to be set up so that anyone that is interested in receiving said broadcast messages can become members and get their messages without upseting the rest of us. Those of us that have no interest in ACBL tournaments or Bridge Italia tournaments or ACBL college teams games can be left in peace by not joining the clubs. Well that is all I want to say (Rant over) thanks for taking time to read this ... if anyone does Geof

There is the ability at BBO to open a table using the option of "mini bridge" this is exactly the same as quoted "easy bridge" Geof
-
Thanks for the links ... it seems now that I need to know if BBO tournaments use a simple movement in that NS stay NS and EW stay EW. If this is the case then I presume that there are 2 winners a NS winner and an EW winner. I am running a pairs timed barometer tourney anyone know how movements on BBO are implemented ?

Hi All I am looking for some sort of resource that gives a simple (I am a simple soul) explanation of MP scoring and some bidding and play tactics .... does anyone out there have an idea where I can find something please thanks Geof
