Hi The other day this bidding sequence came up and my partner gave it one treatment and I another. (Unopposed bidding) 1NT(15-17) - 2♣ 2♠ - 4NT I don't know that hands this strong occur together too often so we had not discussed this sequence. My question is about the 4NT bid which I think should be quantative as there are forcing bids available with a fit although my partner thinks it is fit showing and should be Blackwood (of whichever flavour you have earlier agreed) Please discuss Geof

claim without clarification and play continued!
geofspa replied to m234299's topic in Laws and Rulings
If I may enter my two penny worth Whenever a claim is made the line of play MUST be explained immediately even if it is obvious to all, this then can be explained to the TD if there is a dispute. All too often online I see claims made without any explanation - sheer lazyness. -

Hi I have been asked on a couple of occasions how onr can use the Web Hand editor to save 12 random deals and then send those deals to a number of hosts of a round robin type of team game/ladder ... I have been unable to work this out, I can export one deal from a number of deals in a file but am unable to see how to transfer all 12 deals as a set for simultaneous tables. Thanks Geof

We have bid competitively to 4♠x (by RHO) and dummy comes down I think we could be in 5♦ but that is not possible now. I see ♠10 5 4 I hold ♠Q 9 7 6 3 2 Looking at both hands I can see I can make the contract if I can hold spades to 2 losers only. Is there a percentage play to achieve this? (entries to both hands outside are not a problem) Geof

Thanks Paul and Diana . it was the constant board 1 that confused me. Guess I need to random deal then record the boards and enter manually with the dealer set for each board so the boards can be then sent to a teaching table if there is a need to discuss them later. It all seems to be working very blind though and I prefer LIN files where I can sort the boards off line and see them once dealt.

Hi I am experimenting with the hand generator in V37 but I am failing miserably to save more than one deal to a file. I want to make 12 board files to be uploaded to several team games running concurrently can anyone help me with some basic instructions to save multi hands to one file @~? Geof

Last evening Katherine's, our youngest daughter, boyfriend came to see us and to ask for permission to ask Katherine if they might get engaged to be married. It was a very polite gesture on his part and, of course, I asked if he could keep her in the custom to which she has been accustomed. Well to cut a long story short the question was asked and the last of our fledglings is preparing to fly the nest. It does make me wonder though what makes you realise you are getting older ,,,, other than the aching bones. Geof

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=sk9753ht76dqj32ca]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] The other evening I was sitting South at board 2 and picked up the hand above. East passes and my first turn to bid 1. Should I open this hand? If I do not open it and the bidding continues 1♣,1♠,p 2. How should I advance? However I advance partner bids 4♠ 3. Should I make another move? Thanks for looking and hopefully responding to this Geof

I would like to hear how my partner might bid and if you could maybe suggest how the entire board may be bid ... At this time (20:00 CET Sunday 13th June) I am still with my friends and will be sharing your comments. Many thanks in advance Geof PS My partner is a genius and made +2 scoring 1150 and winning the game for us :)

[hv=d=s&v=e&n=sakj7haktd9ck9742&s=st2hqj9765432dacj]133|200|Scoring: IMP 4♥(dbl)p(5d) pp5♥p pp[/hv] No this was not a goulash I was sitting south and opened 4♥, W doubled and partner passed to E bidding 5♦ ... this was followed by two passes to partner who balances with 5♥... all passing. In the play the ♣A was led which won and was followed by the ♣6, I proceded to win all the tricks from there. my question is did I do wrong opening at the 4 level and should partner bid more strongly ?

Would it be possible to know which version of Flash the web BBO is designed for ? Thanks Geof

As an additional - or follow up - may I ask what the weakest hand, in terms of HCP, may be that you have opened ?

[hv=d=s&v=e&s=sajhqt8542dq6542c]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Having recently read (re-read) Marty Bergens Points Smoints I picked up this hand and pondered a while - should I open or not. I would like to have your opinion on this one ... I'll let you know I did eventually open 1♥ Geof

Hi I was present at a teaching table earlier when one of the players asked for an undo after having a re-think about a bid he had made. The undo was granted and the player revised his bid to 2NT - there after for the table host (the instuctor for the evening) all the bids she saw were 2NT. The host tried to undo all of the bidding to restart but found the only bids she could see were 2NT. I know this bug has been ongoing for a while, with some teaching table hosts going as far as to say there will be no undo's during the bidding. It seems that this area of BBO needs addressing and for me at least the sooner the better. I believe the instructor was using the client based BBO rather than the flash based so I am not sure if this too occurs - or if a teaching table can be set up - using the flash based BBO viewer. Geof

[hv=d=n&v=b&s=skt87643h7542dt9c]133|100|Scoring: IMP - 2♣ p 2♦ p 3♣ p 3♠ p 3NT p ?[/hv] I see trouble ahead - when I post here you know something interesting happened at the table. So the 2♣ followed by 3♣ by my partner means that we can not stop short of game pretty standard so far. I follow showing my long spades and partner bids 3NT. This is not forcing as we are at the game level and it shows at least a partial stopper in both hearts and diamonds. Should I bid 4♠ - my feeling is that my hand is useless unless spades are trumps but your input is appreciated. I will follow up with further table play later in this post - that is if anyone post any responses.

Thanks for the thoughts on this and on the Open or Pass thread

As a post script I opted for PASS which was passed out. Partner then proceded to take 11 tricks and in the post mortem suggested that with a 9 loser hand I should have supported. (BTW I make it a 9.5 losers)

Tks Uday ... i'll try the flash and let you know how it goes .... I can always go back to hd and periodic moving deals and chat

Thanks fred I will do .... does BB work from a flash drive ?

Hi BBO experts I am running rather short on HD space and want to delete/move all saved deals and the chat files, no problem with that. I would like to save future deals and chat to a drive other than C: where the bridgebase software is located. Is there a way to save to another drive ? Thanks in advance Geof
