Did someone hold a gun to your head to bid 3d in the first place? Pass and lead the K of spades...

How close to what is the question? A PLUS? Partner has made a preemptive bid, either holds 0-2 clubs and assume we could be off 2 heart tricks. We were just bid out of a spade game and making 5 spades, may not happen, in fact we may be off 2 clubs and 2 hearts vs a phantom 5 level game in the reds. East passing 5 clubs, sounds like he doesn't have 6 or 7 cards in either red suit or is just showing great respect for partner. Worst yet if we x 5 clubs, can we defend hearts or diamonds. Partner likely has 7 cards in the red suits, but is weak, but how weak? If he has 9 HCP then X looks right, if he has 0 HCP then 5 spades looks right. Only 1 more bid to consider and that bid is PASS. This may be the wisest choice as it is the sure plus

Hi, my name is OneDown and some of you may know me from my Fireside sessions on The BIL while others know me from way back, when I was teaching and running a school on Okbridge. I have been teaching for over 30 years and playing for almost 50 years. I am looking for 2 or 3 serious students, Novice to Intermediate and even Advanced, even Pairs, who really want to build a solid foundation and improve their bridge. I will teach SAYC, 2/1 and my system called SANE. But most important I am going to teach you foundation, regardless of system. Are you looking to learn and play bridge as a long term committment? Has your play hit a wall, and you don't know where to turn"? Do you understand a system does not make a player? Are you prepared to learn and study bridge for 4-6 hours a week? Has your partnership not gone in the direction you hoped? Would you like to learn in a Group format with friends? Whether you are from North or South America, Europe or Asia I can work our a schedule of lessons and learning to fit your time frame. My rates are extremely reasonable at $25 an hour and I can work out affordable packages for you. Your lessons will include: Online mentoring and play After session email review Skype discussion and review Tournament and Team Play I also love to teach groups. These are fun to do with your friends to learn and have some social interaction and fun at the same time. Group rates run at $15 a person and it is all interactive play and learning. For you advanced players, I also have a 3 part Lebensohl Course I sell for $39.95, done in Word 2007 and full of graphics and detailed learning on the full spectrum of Lebensohl, a MUST for the serious player. If you are interested in any of the above, please respond to this post and I will be in contact with you for an interview on skype or email. BBO references available upon request! regards; OneDown Richard Ternouth

Why are we doubling with a flat 8 count? Xing shd be close to G/F, 10 HCP at least, so Pass is my 1st bid. But now that I doubled and do not necessarily have 4 spades, the only FORCING bid is 4d! as per Hanoi.

Diana: Yesterday brought me to another suggested change/improvement with the teams software. Do not get me wrong, I am sold on the web version now as it does have some great features for teams when directing the table. But, when asked to substitute, unlike the windows version I cannot get a view of the players at the other table. Yes I am told a sub is needed and most likely I can sub for a sitout, but I still want to see the other 3 players still seated. Yes I can look in hand history also, but all I am saying that there should be a way to see who is sitting at the other table. thanks Onedown

What is the problem here? In standard methods, partner could have 5h+s if less than a good 10 HCP. Otherwise he makes a Free 2H call. So we assume 4 Hs and 8+ or 5+ Hs and less than a good 10 HCP. Whatever way I do not want to miss a possible diamond slam and since I am void in Hs and a badly positioned AQx of clubs I am happy with 2 Diamonds and will see what comes.

I would like to see where one can request to substitute for a team game and do it by level. In the windows version, to be a substitute, you would need to go to a particular match/table and without joining that table, you would be given a choice to hit the "substitute" button but only for that table. In the web version, that is not available, rather you get this from the help pages? Still, there are times when a team match you are kibitzing will have a player that disconnects. This is a good time for you to let the table know that you are available to sub for the disconnected player. If the table has been set up to allow chat from kibitzers, you will often find that the owner of the table will welcome your volunteering to sub. As one who plays plenty of team matches, probably one of now most popular things to do on BBO, I also create and direct some and one of the most frustrating things in directing teams is getting subs who are the same level as the play requested at the TM. It is also tactless to kick someone off a table who is subbing but whose profile says novice or intermediate when the table is advanced or expert. What I would suggest is the following: When you choose teams from the menu, you do not get sent to a blank page because the default tab is the pending tables. I would assume 99% of the players choosing teams do so to see what teams games are in progress, not ones pending which there are usually ZERO! A tab or box and especially on the web version, that when you choose teams and come to that "blank page" which has the pending or in play tabs, you have a tab saying "register as a substitute". Once you choose this it is asks your "preferred level" according to your profile. Hopefully we would not have those who choose to not list their level and have private instead

Can anyone with good WiFi knowledge, suggest a piece of WiFi hardware or different ones which will support at least 20 connections that are all in one room from 20 separate PCs and maintain a good signal to BBO.

This hand generator is compatible with BBO web version?
-
I did as you said on the web version but I do not see a save option?
-
This on the webversion and can they all be saved under 1 file name and used by multiple hosts at the same time?
-
I have used the hand editor many times and it is great for generating hands I want to describe. But I am working on a new project involving team play between clubs and country and conducted live at a club using multiple teams and needing laptop computers for each player of those teams to log into BBO. Their is really no constraint against this but I do not see where I could generate multiple random boards, where I had nothing to do with the input except say "random". Then have all these boards, lets say 28 or 32 saved to 1 file. Then when the time to create the multiple team matches, each host of the individual team vs team would have been sent this file and he then uploads it to the table. This would enable 3-4 or more teams competing from each club/country they are all playing the same boards?

My bad Diana and thanks for replying. My mind got twisted a bit as I was relating it to the BIL when I wanted to log in from my PC with 2 accounts for teaching purposes.
-
Good points and we are covering all those concerns, I was more concerned with BBO allowing all the logins. And yes we will have a Director and a webcam of the room all through the match.

Our bridge club is setting up a number of special events, virtual live events where our club/country. Costa Rica will play matches with other countries same time say day but they remain in their country and we remain in ours but all players will play on BBO from their respective club with laptops logging into BBO...how do we configure 1 WIFI to handle this?

New Fireside needs Assistants
Onedown replied to Onedown's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Fireside now has 3 new assistants, but we can always use more -
Just wondering about the possibility of a small tweek at a Teaching Table where table owner/teacher when dealing with Groups, can Kibbitz a hand while being bid and have his chat only go to Kibbitzers then once a hand is over, he can then move down to the table and have chat only directed at the bidders? This is what I was able to do at OKB when running Firesides, which I am starting here soon at BridgeBase. The same would apply for bidders, since they get rotated from Kibbitzing to sitting and bidding. Once they leave their seat they go back to the kibbitzing area rather than having to leave the table totally? IF this is already there then I am a dufus... :D
