  1. I agree with Bobo here. 2♠ is my only bid unless I play hero bridge. My partner is not a passed hand and does my hand say any more than 2♠?
  2. Why is this posted in expert class bridge? Both questions in fact. With no other bidding a ♥lead is 100% and if playing attitude I lead my 5th best heart. If the question is about whether one interferes, NV vs VUL I will show a minor/major with a capp 2H or using HELLO bid 2 clubs.
  3. Also obvious you could risk being passed out on a cold diamond slam...2♣ is the only opener here and hope you the time and levels to show this monster 2 suiter
  4. I would do something before I doubled, I would stand on my chair and double!
  5. Why is it winning bridge to open this hand, 2 quicks and out...or did you lose your green card
  6. I play OGUST and would be the only reason I would open this hand 2♦, but if P asked me for a response, it is 3♥ implying good hand, bad suit...I do not have a good hand..I cannot fathom opening 1♦ so I pass and await the next round of bidding.
  7. The problem lies in being Vul vs NV...bidding 2♦ rather than re-opening with a x, might find you being doubled and getting pounded...i still prefer X..
  8. The best you can hope for IF you double is partner passes and you are getting a plus score. Problem is if we double partner may have been extremely weak but 5 cards+ in hearts and you will hear 2H. Remember, partner did not make a neg double! I do not want to bid 2D either as there is a chance partner did have clubs..I do not want to rebid my diamond suit due the the vulnerability...I double and see what happens...I DO NOT LIKE THIS HAND!
  9. I have no comment on 1) or 2) but on the auctiom. One comment said the auction was strange. I find the raise to 3 spades very strange. UNLESS u play some system that guarantees 1S is 5+ spades, you have just enough to bid 3 clubs..thats it and thats all...
  10. When I get auctions like these and hands to match, the 1st thing I do is grab my calculator. Vulnerbility is always key, but so is the action taken by responder. Someone already mentioned that partner failed to make a neg x nor bid. Pass is not an option, simply due to it a possible penalty situation...advancer did not raise either...double and hope for the best!
  11. This query should not be in an advanced forum. There is nothing here that is anything but standard bridge logic that does not go above novice to intermediate...we bid RKC 4NT pretty simple.
  12. Someone asked a question and parted with "with this crap". I have to agree this is SO BORDERLINE for a 1♥ opener in 1st seat. I could play a good game of lowball poker with all my 8 low cards from a 5 down, but no one has mentioned the 2♥ opener and the only reason to consider this if you play OGUST and weak 2 range is 6-11..does this hand qualify?...absolutely. The HCP 11 count is semi-soft, do I love my Q32 of ♦'s or my A32 of ♣'s?..NOT If the opponents cooperate and pass 2♥ and after the forcing 2NT your p hears 3♥, good suit good hand, then p has a MUCH better idea of where to take this hand.... I am sure I am going to here from all the nay sayers that swear this is a 1♥ opener.
  13. 4NT is the most obvious as there is no mistaking what it is...I did pass 3♥ so I certainly didn't have a responsive X if we are playing them thru 3S or higher and 3NT could be misconstrued and a cue of 4H is saying what? Better than a 3 or 4♠bid?; if so you would have spoken already. It could show 2-3-4-4 but 4NT leaves nothing to think about.
  14. Todd you are playing way too many MP games...
  15. I like 2 1/2 ♥. At imps I think 2♥ is an underbid and 3♥ shaded but I would really hate to miss game if we have a fit and partner has an 8 count, with a 3 card fit and he passes 2♥. I think my 3♥bid shd imply a decent 5-5 and the 16 HCP I have.
  16. I have questioned many posts here but this one ranks highest on simply "WHY"? So you are afraid with this pile of garbage partner will not find a heart lead to defeat what? The real post should read "how stupid are you"?
  17. Why is this hand being posted? Vul against not and partner a passed hand, the ONLY thing I could hope for is partner passed with a good 11-12 and we find 3NT. BUT saying that, it is highly unlikely and I am begging to go for some minus, perhaps doubled vs some part score. PASS AND I SECOND THE EMOTION!
  18. As far as leads go, I lead a ♦, it is simply restricted choice. I do not touch ♥, ♠ or ♣, based on the auction. What interests me more is the 1♣ opener? What system were the opps playing to open 1 Club? If 2/1 or Saycish, it is a full distortion. Wouldn't I want to know if we had a ♠fit before anything else??? Once he opens a ♠, his rebid is easy, if no immediate ♠ raise, jump to 3♣ over 1NT or bid 3 ♣ over any 2/1 response as a high level reverse. This kind of hand does point out a flaw in 2/1 vs SAYC. If say with 15, then over any 2/1 I am forced to bid 3 ♣, and partner is at a guess at my hand strength. If I have this shape and not good enough for a high level reverse, I like to have an agreement to open a ♣when 5-5 and not suit heavy in ♠ or if 4-5 and the spade suit is solid open 1♣and rebid 1♠. If ♠suit is mediocre then I rebid 1NT, but do not deny 4♠....But that is my system.
  19. Why 2♠s? Are we looking for a 4-3 ♠ fit? Partner has denied a 4 card major so its game either in a minor or 3NT. Over 1NT I get simple and pray, 3NT! On the auction given, again I do not get too complicated, its either 3NT or 5♣! I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish with 3♥s? The ? being is 9 tricks or 11 tricks easier? I bid 3NT! You need less good things to happen than in 5♣
  20. Ken, as a bridge theorist, many bids or gadgets would be ill-advised in your opinion? :D The way I play and use 4 suit transfers is by choice of all THE OTHER CHOICES IN BRIDGELAND! And on this particular hand it was bizarre as I know realize I had a brain fart not considering xferring to ♠'s in the beginning and the only thing I did that was ill-advised was making the post.
  21. Transfer is an interesting choice (not mine) and offers some investigative room., but again, I only have an 11 HCP hand? We could be off in HCP AAK? Also a transfer is grabbing 2 ♠ and with an over zealous North perhaps 3 ♠. Then what? There is no 3NT bid here.
  22. Mud on face when they cash the AK of ♦
  23. [hv=pc=n&s=sq7654hakt83dq64c&n=sat82hq2dak92ckt8&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=p1np3cd3dp4dp4sppp]266|200[/hv] These hands are the reason I play this game and sometimes regret it!! First of all, we play Puppet over 1NT as game force and 2 clubs as non-forcing, BUT we also play g/f Smolen. I incorporated Puppet 3 years ago over 1NT and it has paid off big time. We also play 4 suit transfers, using 3 ♦ as game force with both minors and 3♥ and 3♠ as fragment bids. Using Puppet we lose 3♣, as weak in both minors, so not such a big loss. I have 2 choices here, bid 2 clubs followed by 3 ♠ unless partner bids a major, or Puppet on the off chance partner has his own 5 card major. And for those nay sayers who refuse to open 1NT with a 5 card major, that discussion is for another day! I have already got it into my head that slam is possible, but SO many things to know about <_< !!! As the auction goes, partner makes my decision a bit easier by bidding 3♦ over the X of 3♣, showing 1 or both majors, but what now? I need to know what major, and his ♦ and ♠ holdings. I can bid 4 ♣ which is slam invitational, showing both majors, or many other choices. I also know a ♣ lead is imminent. I finally whimp out and bid 4♦ (only a game force), which partner responds 4 ♠ and all pass. How many of you take the leap of faith here? and how? Note: Once I review the hand now I should have put more thought into it . Partner did not XX 3 ♣, which may place his values elsewhere, and partner showing 4 ♠, I should have reconsidered and bid on (resulting?) as 6 ♠ makes, banging down Ace ♠) grabs stiff K on your right)! My choices if I had decided to continue and in this order, are 1. 5 ♣ 2. 5 ♠ asking spade quality. But both bids only serve for 1/2 info, 5 ♣ may fetch 5 ♦, but I STILL don't know ♠ quality  , and 5 ♠ I don't know about ♦s :o I have given 7 choices, and not in any particular order. Rank you choice(s) from 10 down.
  24. I do not know how to fix the hand, but thanks..what a tonto I am Lots of great replies....to some of them: 0-9 is way too wide - This is pretty standard and simply descriptive...it connotes a void or stiff in a side suit..and not offensive...as in smell... B-) Bidding 3 clubs - I do not like 3 clubs, due to the evaluation of the stiff K of ♠ Opening 4 card majors - I must admit, that this is my system, called SANE. I have taught and played it for over 20 years. it is only 4 card ♥ suits we open just to make rebids easier when you have 4 or 5 ♦ or some other configuration (there are many) where your rebid once opening a minor becomes difficult. Responder always assumes 5 in the beginning and can be qualified after 2nd or 3rd bids. Doubling 3NT - I wd consider this for a nano second and move on. How rich can we get vs 620 or 1430? RHO other than there insanity, surely has 11+ cards in the minors. 500 maybe, but 800?..never...
