  1. Does that mean if we bid 3♦ then we can expect Tx in support? I joke! I joke, I joke, I joke..... My choice is 3♦, simple-minded perhaps, but I have always been one to bid what I'm looking at. LHO is a passed hand too. This is possible, but unlikely. One could invoke the First Commandment of Bridge: "Thou may steal, but thou should never be stolen from." http://www.youtube.c...h?v=l-AV2Lu_1wM
  2. These hands are from the NLM Pairs at this weekend's sectional in San Diego. We came in second to the same pair in both sessions, and would have been likely to win the whole thing if my opening leads hadn't been a disaster. Get these right, and you can win a sectional, too! All hands are matchpoints scoring. 3. As the lone rep for Safari, I'm not going to complain about anyone who serves Microsoft a nice, cold trout to the chin.
  4. Did you watch any of the Spingold? Spades, hearts, goofenspiel and Egyptian War are simple games. Bridge is about as simple as fire is cold.
  5. Last night I started a table with three other robots in the online version. They bid and played at breakneck, lightning speed. After two hands, I backed out and switched to the downloadable, Windows version. You can control the speed there, and they play better at the slower speed IMO.
  6. Nickell / Cayne matches usually are. They have a rivalry that goes a long way back. I was watching the match on Vugraph at the time, and the ruling was shocking to say the least. That the hand turned out to be (one of) the deciding factor(s) only put a crown on the drama. It'd be interesting to know what the kibitzing crowd has to say about this, next time Cayne plays a BBO team match.
  7. IMHO the Monaco team is a very deserving champion of the Spingold and Fantoni-Nunes play a fascinating system. Nickell has one of the best bridge pairs around in Meckwell but his team needed ghastly misplays by their opponents in three different rounds just to get to the final. Monaco asserted themselves in the final and just took over after the half.
  8. So when you go to a tournament in France, those guys are really not your friend. They put you down when you misguess them (happens to me more than half the time) AND they overcharge you for parking your car. Double whammy.
  9. First of all, that's actually 20 points. In that light, I would open 2NT. If you forced me to open 1 of a minor with this hand, I would open 1♦ and jump-shift to 3♣. Finally, if you forced me to open 1♣ with this hand, I would now jump-shift to 2♠.
  10. Next year, in the booth, I'm writing you in.
  11. Well, that explains why I haven't seen kiwigirl2/3/4/whatever-the-heck-it-is-now online in several years.... [EDIT] And of course, this means I see her last night on the way out after a session. LMFAO at me.
  12. Which is exactly why I'm doubling....
  13. Whether or not bridge should be legally classified as a "sport" I cannot say, but many of the players I've met act as though they're competing in one. We have poker on ESPN, why shouldn't we be able to see team matches on Versus?
  14. Rumor has it that there are hundreds of tons of gold buried away in an abandoned mine in North Dakota. No expedition, American or otherwise, has dared to venture there for decades, because of the hobgoblins, orcs, rattlesnakes, zombies, quaggas, ur-viles, and jabberwockies. Even the native Sioux Indian tribes didn't go in there. Anyone ever heard of "Mean Mama"? If we could find him (yes, it's a "him"), he could haul out that coin in no time. He could single-handedly rescue our economy. Heck, I have enough experience to trek up there and lend a helping hand myself.
  15. Really? Are these forums about to be annexed by China as part of the debt negotiations? http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif
  16. Dang! This foiled my evil and nefarious plan. I was just about to go on a cut-and-pasting spree, steal from a whole ton of science and technology articles . . . . . . and then make the grandiose claim that I INVENTED THE CYBERNETIC RABBIT!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Overheated coffee would be around 10th from the top on the list of things I would sue McDonald's for.
  18. I wouldn't be so sure. How old are our opponents? A 1♥ bid would have a good chance of getting by some of the people I've played against. My choice would be a 'normal' 2♥ bid, by the way. On another note, I would drop it in 1♠ with VM1973's example hand. Reopening doubles with a minimum and a singleton in another suit are just not my cup of tea. A lot of the time, partner will advance with 2♣ or 3♣, leaving you up **** creek without a paddle. And a lot of the time that doesn't happen, E-W will back in and drive to 5♣ or 3NT, making.
  19. Why does so much of the fun stuff here happen while I'm asleep? http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif
  20. Good question. This hand looks right on the line. When I put it into K&R, it measured at 7.75, which IMO is not enough to give a positive response. Therefore, we have to X. I've just started learning Precision very recently, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but a positive, 8+ showing response to a 1♣ opening is game forcing. The only way we can stop below game is by playing in 4♣ or 4♦ after learning we don't have a spade stop.
  21. I'd have a hard time finding cats that would drag in this hand.
  22. My immune system downvoted this kitty: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9e/Felis_silvestris_-_July_2007-1.jpg/730px-Felis_silvestris_-_July_2007-1.jpg http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif
  23. That would be my third, maybe even fourth choice. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif I prefer 2NT at matchpoints (3♣ at IMPs). 3♠ belongs somewhere in the mix, too.
  24. IMHO posts that have no votes or replies, should be editable for half an hour and still stay clean.
