  1. Thanks for elucidating the alternatives. I play Inverted Minors and your post has made me wonder how use of short ♣ impacts on that. Is it the price of doing business or should I ditch one of the two 'conventions'?
  2. Thank your for your post. I play short♣ because my 1♦ is alway four and I play 2♣/1♦ as 2/1 GF. Is this not a fair trade off?
  3. Hi guys, Playing with a random opponent something happened that has not happened before: Partner repeatedly refused to lead to any 1♣ I had opened. He argued as I was playing short ♣ this was reasonable. Furthermore, he would rather play me for the unbid major when opponents had found a fit in one of them. I was flabbergasted. What do people make of his reasoning? I thought it was chiselled in stone that one lead the suit partner had bid. Looking forward to the replies.
  4. Again, I am humbled by the generosity of the forum's posters. Thanks to all who posted. Everyday a get a little better, which is in no small measure due to your help.
  5. Hi guys, I just want to clarify bids after a 2N rebid by opener. So with the sequence: 1♣ 1♥ 2N 3♥ would show a five card suit and invites game in it or 3N 3♠ would show a four card suit in addition to ♥s and desire for a game in the majors 4♥ would show a six card suit and is a sign off If responder's major had been ♠s then a 3♥ rebid would show 5-4 in the majors yes? Is there anything I am missing or need to take note of? Looking forward to the replies.
  6. This is one of the reasons I come here. My "expert" partners tell me things and I have to know whether they are true or not. Good catch.
  7. I like this too. I refines what has been stated by other posters. Many thanks for your input.
  8. This simplifies matters most nicely. Thanks for your considered reply.
  9. This I really like. Simple. Elegant. Effective. Thanks for your considered reply.
  10. Playing 2/1 with my regular partner for Imps I made a mess of this auction. [hv=pc=n&s=st864hj8da65caj84&n=skj7ha92dkj874ckq&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1np2c2hppdp2np3hdrp3sp3nppp]266|200[/hv] My immediate thought after RHO bids 2♥ is to pass (I take it this is a forcing pass). Partner redoubles which I am thinking is asking me to take out or convert for penalties. Since I have no preference I go 2N. Partner bids 3♥ (which he later tells me is Stayman). I, now, think his original double was because he had the rest of the hearts and LHO may have none whatsoever. I redouble. Partner bids spades and I think we may as well be in game so bid 3N. I made. I am also sure I made plenty of errors in the bidding. Could someone please evaluate my bidding and that of partner? Many thanks.
  11. This is a 2/1 auction with a random partner. We are playing for imps. [hv=d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1sp2cp2sp3sp4s]133|100[/hv] Post mortem partner tells me that his 3♠ was a slam attempt. A straight bid of 4♠ would have been a sign off showing no slam interest. Is this 3 level return a usual slam attempt in opener's major? If so, I am cue bidding and/or RKB right? Many thanks for replies.
  12. Clearly, my thinking had broken down at this point.
  13. [hv=pc=n&s=st853ht53dak54cj6&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1cp1d1s2h2s3sp4dp4h]133|200[/hv] I hope Partner will become my regular partner. We are both playing 2/1. My 1♦ was a mistake I usually show the major when I only have enough points for one bid. My 3♠ is asking for the stop showing a willingness to play in 3N after partner reverses. Eventually, when partner puts me into 4♦ I decide to play in the Moysian fit for game. If we are contracting to win 10 tricks then it may as well be in game. It is this last decision that I would like feed back on. Though, if other points of interest are noted, then please raise them. Many thanks for your replies.
  14. Hi, Partner opened 2♣ RHO X what do I do? I passed then put opener into 4♠ but a needless RKB got us to 5♠. We made but I hand no clue what to do. What defensive schemas are people using over Xs and two level suit interventions? What are the most commons response? Many thanks.
  15. Situations arise all the time that I am not prepared for and this is one of them. With fewer ♦ and more HCP I would have bid 3N so 2N would be to play if I had fewer ♦ but no more HCP than I actually hold.
  16. This is a 2/1 auction with a semi-regular partner: [hv=pc=n&s=saq63hakdj87432cq&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=2d2s]133|200[/hv] What is my bid? I am thinking 5♦ may make but 6♦ carries on the pre-empt. How do I decide which bid to make? Many thanks for replies.
  17. Thank you for your kindness. I laughed out loud. I really did.
  18. In competitive auctions playing SA or 2/1, where we open and either one or both opponents intervene, is playing new suit game tries (with Maximal Doubles) usual whilst raising in suit is competitive. eg 1♠ 2♥ 2♠ Pass ??? 3♣/3♦ (artificial, and asking PD to bid 4♠ if at the top of his range and three of suit if minimal. If new suit game tries are not the regular treatment for finding game could someone tell me what is? Much obliged.
  19. Nothing so clever. My browser was playing up and I thought my initial post hadn't taken. So I reposted with different wording. It took me two days to figure out that there were two threads! But no denying they have developed differently. Thank you all for your contributions.
  20. The other day I had a hand where RHO opened 1♣ I overcalled 1♥ and passed LHO doubled and passed Partner redoubled! General question: what does the redouble of a negative double mean? There is very little about this online and I have never come across this bidding sequence before so I am very much interested in your replies. Many thanks as always.

  22. Playing SAYC with a random. What does Partner's XX mean here? I have never encountered a XX as an overcaller by advancer. What was my bid after it? [hv=pc=n&e=skhaqj8632d65ca84&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1d1hdrp]133|200[/hv] Very much looking forward to your replies. Many thanks.
  23. Many thanks to all who posted. I think FSF would have been the way to go if my tunnel vision had not blinded me to it.
  24. [hv=pc=n&e=sakj43h6d87cat982&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=p1dp1sp2cp3cppp]133|200[/hv] I am playing 2/1 with a random. I show my spades and he shows a second suit. I immediately think 5♣ but then think why jump that high when 3N could easily make if he has a stopper. He surprised me by passing. We make with 2 overs. Did I do wrong in merely supporting his 2nd suit? Should I have invited to game with 4♣?
