I tried to access many time (whole day), but I had no luck: 'Firefox can't find the server at www.bbotv.com.' Opera: 'You tried to access the address http://www.bbotv.com/v2/client_v13/bbo.php?m=k, which is currently unavailable.' Older beta does not work, too. (I cleared my browsers cache.) BBOWin is O.K. A ) I don't want a third person (host). I just want to practice with my partner. B ) I didn't know that GIB is free. LOL

My suggestion was on June 2 2004: "One of the best feature of BBO for practice is Partnership Bidding. Unfortunately this feature is not too popular, only 2-3 tables are there. Why? I think the main reason is that after the end of the bidding East-West cards are not visible. I would like to see East-West cards too after bidding, so we could analyse how good our contracts..." Nice work, Fred. After a short test I have noticed only one thing: team colors are badly missing. Gabor

Hi Fred, Under Firefox Flash version works fine now. I got an icon and a message, had to install flash version 7,019,0. After downloading BBOFlash is O.K. Under IE6 BBOFlash still has no luck. Thanks, Gabor

IE7 is not available for my operating system (Win2000). I tried BBOFLASH under Mozilla Firefox, it does not work. Gabor

Hi Fred, I can see only a greyish white blank IE6 window after 'Loading. Please wait...' (It's the same old problem, version 4 did not work on my computer also.) Gabor

I have tried BBOTV many times (it was the previous version, I think) and everything was OK. But now something is wrong, because I get: Loading. Please wait..., and a blank blue screen :( Gabor
-
I have the same problem, Fred (Flash 9, IE6). After the Loading message, I can see only a blank blue IE window. Gabor

Bidding box (top right) has only 4 basic rows. Might be better at least 5 as a default. Gabor

In a pack there are 40 points. A pair that gets more points finds its theoretical value in following table: Expected points: HCP NV Vul 20 0 0 21 50 50 22 70 70 23 110 110 24 200 290 25 300 440 26 350 520 27 400 600 28 430 630 29 460 660 30 490 690 31 600 900 32 700 1050 33 900 1350 34 1000 1500 35 1100 1650 36 1200 1800 37 1300 1950 38 1300 1950 39 1300 1950 40 1300 1950 This is the value of expected points which a pair should get with the specified number of HCPs in hand. It is compared with the real value of the received points. The difference between those values is transformed to IMP's. For example if a pair received 50 points more than it was predicted, they get 2 IMP's. If the difference is -170, which means a pair had less than expected they lose 3 IMP's. The rest of rules are exactly the same as in the Chicago system. Regards, G.

"It seems like there may be more occasions in bridge where the card gods decide who's going to win a board than the players (this is why duplicate is considered a better test of skill)" This problem could be solve by Russian Scoring. It is not perfect, but better than Total Points. Works fine, social bridge players love it in Hungary. Gabor

Nice new feature, thanks. Might be better to play Russian Scoring instead of Total Points (or Host have an option). There are 3 advantages if players are always declarer. 1. Less complaints. 2. More play as declarer. 3. Your skill as declarer would be the deciding factor. Gabor

May I suggest another contest? It would be also very educational. It is not new, do you you remember Epson World Bidding Challenge? Here are the rules: "The solver has to bid both hands all the way through the auction. You are shown the hands of East and West and are asked to state the best complete sequence, using..." BBO Advanced bidding methods. ... "In marking the entries, the solver's sequence is compared with the official solution. Marks are scored for each call in the auction in agreement with the official solution. Ten marks are awarded for the first correct call, eleven for the second, twelve for the third, and so on. When you make a 'wrong' call, you score no more marks on that problem, but keep the marks already won." Expert players (panel) separately will do the same. When most of them agree on the best sequence, this becames the official solution. If the experts differ, it is ...'s job to adjudicate. Regards, Gabor Here are the four problems from 1988. The solution is hidden, members of the panel were Bobby Wolff and Zia, the 'boss' was Omar Sharif. 1. [hv=d=w&v=b&w=saq104hj102dkqj976c&e=sk7ha9854d103cak93]266|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] 2. [hv=d=w&v=b&w=saq104hj102dkqj976c&e=sk7ha9854d103cak93]266|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] 3. [hv=d=w&v=b&w=saq104hj102dkqj976c&e=sk7ha9854d103cak93]266|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] 4. I love Love's book, but if u looking for some errors in his great work, here is another one: Clyde Love hands, Exercise 44. AQ542 KQ9 AJ6 62 10 A543 KQ7 A8743 6NT by South. 1. West leads cK, East discads s9, Ace wins. 2-3. Hearts. Both follow. 4. Heart. East discards s3. 5-6. Diamonds. Both follow. There is a mistake in his analysis: "After six tricks Declarer can claim his contract, because it is known that West has no more than one Spade. Cash DK to close the exit; then lead the Spade. If West plays low, let the Ten ride to East, for an ultimate return into the tenace." If East PLAYS LOW, the contract is down. So the correct play is: If West plays low, PLAY the ACE, then a small Spade, endplaying East. Gabor

If you set the table type to Total points, the redeal function will be 'on'. Gabor

I suggest another scoring format at Main Club tables, called as Chicago with Russian Scoring. This system differs from the Chicago only with calculation of points. It eliminates a little some luck while playing the game. Regards, Gabor

hrotgar: "I went with 3N. Scant consolation, I know. But one is better than no... " Thx Richard B) My vote was (3NT) at white vs red (we were nv, they vul), see 9 down = -450. So I don't understand Roland's comment: "I would have liked to bid more, but not at these colours." At other vul my vote is not 3NT, sry :) Gabor
