Hi again, Am also frustrated when Gib doesn't lead the suit you have bid and raised. Instead on game #6600 hand #6 he leads trumps and pickles a possible trump trick. Thanks
-
Hi All, Just wanted to vent my frustrations. Why does GIB go down 2 in 4NT when he is cold for 5NT? The game was #6381 hand #4. Doesn't matter what the lead was or how he plays the Hs. He wins trick one and plays hearts. Then he has 3Ss, 4Hs, 2Ds and 2Cs. That's 11 tricks in anyone's book. Seems to happen frequently. Can you fix the bug?

Hi B, I have also found your comment to be true. Gib seems to always have 5Ds when bidding 1D after a 1C opening. However, there is one bid I would like to see the programmers instigate. When Gib is only strong enough to make one bid (6-9 hcps)I would like him to by-pass the 1D in favor of bidding his 4 card major. This up the line bidding is antiquated. You don't have to play the complete Walsh system just the by-pass of Ds when you have strength for only 1 bid. Game #7054 board #8 for instance. You easily get to your 4-4 H fit. I am tired of having to compromise my normal game to play Gib standard. Does anyone have 2 pages of notes, like I do, for which Gib is programmed and not? Thanks

Hi, I agree completely. I don't understand half of what you are telling me to do and half of the terminology you all use. A simple button would be greatly appreciated. Joeydinky

Hi Rain, I am a older lady who hates computers and is not comfortable with them. I was once told by BarMar that the forum was the avenue to report Gib problems. Now I am told by Mr. Bradley that I should use Export Deal and then send robot report. Is this correct? Then where do I find Export Deal? I do not necessarily want to institute discussions, just report clitches. I have a recent one and now don't know where to report it. Thanks, Joeydinky

Hi All, This is not necessarily for discussion but just to report hands to the programmers. I was told this is the proper way to do it. Game #6135, hand #8---How can Gib be programmed to bid a new suit(5S)at the 5L on the 10xxxx with 2 points. In a active auction with both opponents bidding my 5D bid was just competing. There is no way I can have 26-29 pts. 4Hs (620)was cold and 5Ds would have been down 3 dbld. for only 500 (a top). You need to program Gib for competitive auctions. Game 1127 hand #4---2H - dbl - 3Hs - P; P - dbl - P - How can Gib be programmed to P with a stiff H and 2 four card minors. Again down 1 doubled is a lot better than them making 3Hs and certainly than -1130 3Hs making doubled. Last hand--Game 2130 hand #9 Is GIB programmed to finesse? He was right to pull 3N bid to 4Ss but now he has to make the contract. Finesse the S and contract makes. Thanks

Hi, Very interesting hand. I certainly could have been wrong but I would have switched to the K of Hs at trick 2. Partner did make a negative double. This gives you the potential of getting a ruff as well as endplaying the declarer. You can continue Ds later.

In game #4047, hand 4, the bidding went Gib 1D - P - 2H strong with 6 and 17+ pts. Gib rebid 3D and I bid 4C which was explained as a splinter with D support. Gib simply jumped to 5D which to me is a sign-off with no interest in slam. Why couldn't he bid RKC since he did have the A of Clubs, my splinter. We missed 7. Am I supposed to guess whether to bid slam or not? At best we would be in 6D. I would have to assume Gib did not have the A of Cs. Another problem was hand#6. Gib was in 3NT making 9 tricks when he was cold for 11 tricks. With a H lead he had 6Ds, 4Hs and the A of Cs. I realize he plays the same with all partners but that is really bad bridge. Can't Gib be programmed to take all his tricks. He does it all the time.

Hi All, I have a problem with Gib making games and I refuse he bids game anyway and goes down. Game #4047, hand #3, he made a game try bidding 3D and I signed off in 3H but he went to game anyway which should be a slam try now. Of course, we went down losing 3Ds and the A of clubs. Very frustrating playing sometimes.

Hi, Perhaps there should be an additional catagory like Super GrLM for those with the additional Platinum points and more than one NABC title. After 10,000 pts. and GrLM there is not much for the non-pro player to do other than accumulate master points which for us is a guide to distinguish the terrific players. There are many platinum life masters who have accumulated points simply because they have played for years. They are fine players but really aren't that good. Good luck in your future achieving your goals.

Hi again, Standard garbage stayman as I learned it from at least 3 experts including Rodwell was to bid it on any 4414,4441 hand, or of course any hand with a void in Cs or Ds. As decribed above after a 2D response, 2Hs is weak with both majors showing equal or longer Hs and is pass or correct. If you are 5-4 or 4-5 and your 5 card suit is stonger than your 4 card suit just transfer and pass. If your 4 card suit is better than your 5 card suit bid garbage stayman. Some experts even use garbage stayman when 4432 or 4423 and weak with about 80% success. They like playing in their 4-4 major fits when weak.

Hi All, Have run into many hands where a 4-4 major fit would have resulted in a positive score instead of 1NT going down. Wish that Gib was programmed to play trash or garbage stayman. We miss too many 4-4 major fits because they are not programmed accordingly.

Hi Jillybean, I enjoyed very much playing for about 9 years in many regionals and nationals but now find them too costly to attend. I do go to some close regionals for a few days but usually not the whole week. My stamina is not what it used to be. I used to be able to play 18 sessions a week reasonably well. As for Gib, I love the convenience of playing anytime I want without having to get dressed and drive to a game. Sometimes I eat my breakfast in my jammies while playing with Gib. I also moved to a small town where the games are not very large and there are not many pts. to be won. So I suppliment my live points with Gib points.
-
Hi, I would gladly play only 18 board games if enough people played in them, preferably 15+ but at least 10 to make up for the additional cost of the game. I play most of my bridge in the morning before my day starts. I always check out the 18 board games at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. and usually there are zero registered. Therefore, I play in the 12 board games instead. I play live bridge most Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in my local area clubs and find that playing Gib games in the morning gets my brain in gear.
-
I would love to play more 18 board matches, but I don't usually play in one unless 10 or more people are registered.
-
For your information, I have just under 8,700 points as of May 1st and have an NABC+ title.
-
Hi all, In response to bbradley62, yes I play for masterpoints. My goal is to win at least 30 masterpoints a month between GIB and live bridge. Therefore, in just under 4 years, I will become a Grand Life Master. I tend to do better in the 18 board games because if I do poorly on a hand or two, it is less costly. I admit playing either the 12 or 18 board games has improved my declarer play immensely. I wish that more people would play the 18 board games.

Hi all, Played this morning and had a problem with hand #4 in game 9367. I opened 1 club with an 18 count in tending to rebid 2NT. Then opponents overcalled 2Ds weak. Gib with this hand bid 3C instead of 2Hs. (Jx, KQxxx,x, Jxxxx) We missed our 5-4 H fit. Gib should be programmed to bid major first because he can support Cs at next bid. Thanks
-
Hi again, Believe me I am trying to understand GIB but some of his programming is opposite from my experience in live bridge. I understand what you are saying. But I think that bidding 5D showing a diamond control says that I have no fear of Ss. I am cooperating with his slam effort. Fast arrival should say I have two losers and want to play only 5Hs.

Hi all, So sorry about my mistake earlier. I am not comfortable with computers and this is the first time I have used the forum. Unfortunately, I sometimes mis-read the bidding (more often than I'd like to admit). So forget the first hand I discussed earlier. That was my fault. However, about the 2nd hand, I have been taught that in strong game forcing auctions 3 level bids are stronger than 4L. Gives you more space for Q-bids and slam exploration which GIB is very weak at. I don't know the specific hand but earlier today we had a strongish auction an arrrived at 4H. GIB actually Q-bid 5Cs and I signed off in 5Hs knowing we were off 2 losing spades since Gib didn't Q-bid 4Ss. He bid 6Hs anyway and we were down. I hate it when Gib doesn't respect the human partner which often he does in a NT auction when he pulls a making 3NT to 4H/S to go down. Gib seems to be nervous about having a stiff when I have showed stoppers in that suit. Here's another NT auction I didn't understand from the other day. I opened 1NT (15-16 pts.) with a 5 card major which I always do even in live bridge. 1NT - 2C(single suit) - P - 2D (asking), now 2Hs (KJ10xx)by me, P - 2S when GIB had my Qx of Hs and only the 8xx of spades. We played in our 3-2 spade fit down. Don't understand bidding a 3 card suit at all with minimum pts. Another bug I have with GIB is splintering in stiff As or Ks. All experts say that is wrong. We missed a slam because I thought we had a losing C. OH no, Gib had the stiff A. One problem I really have with Gib is his lack of respect for the human often pulling bids that make to bids that go down. OH WELL. Thanks all.

HI All, I played two games this morning and had 3 impossible bids by GIB resulting in bad scores. One hand was game 9048, hand #1. I opened 2C - partner bid 2D, I bid 2S, pard bid 3H. I jumped to 4S and GIB bids 6NT with no D stoppers(2 little). How can they be programmed to bid that way? Was down 4. Another bad bid was game 9496, hand #7. I opened 1NT with Ax, AKQ9x, Kxx,9xx Pard bid 2H transfer to S. I bid 2S. Then Gib bids 3D, a game force, with 5 HCPs and only 2Ds. His hand was KJxxx, J10xx, xx, xx. WHY? Makes no sense. Game 9496 hand #11 I opened 1NT with QJxx, KQxx, KQx, Qx. They overcall 2C (single suiter)- P - 2H (own suit). I passed and it went P by the 2C bidder. Now Gib bids 2Ss with 9xxx, 10xx, 9xx, Axx. We get doubled. Again WHY? I thought GIB had been imrpoved. I have not found that to be true. HELP to keep this from happening again. Thanks
