if playing 2/1 almost forcing to game how is it that 3d is 100% natural? holding [hv=s=skxhaqjxxxdaxxcxx]133|100|[/hv] isnt your only alternative at your second turn to call 3d in following auction since a 3h rebid would be non forcing ie: 1s-2h 2s-3h i like 3h rather than d raise.

I'm currently watching french natls and there was and auction that went p- p-1h-p 1s-p-2d-p 4h [hv=d=w&v=e&w=skqtxxhk9xxdjcqxx&e=sxhaxxxxdaqxxctxx]266|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 4h down 1. I have certainly been in worse contracts. After/during the hand the commentators were discussing using either drury or a fit showing jump to describe west's hand. Either of which certainly seems better than the actual route chosen by west, when one of the commentors said "i hate drury". Immediately i thought of my father who has exactly the same sentiment. Personally i cant understand why someone would object(as a passed hand) to giving up a natural 2 club response to a major in exchange for an economical means of inviting partner to game. Would some of you drury haters please help me understand?

I was just reading the figb website and noted that sabina auken is playing on the lavazza squad during the Italian mixed teams. I see on the vugraph schedule that this event is not scheduled to be broadcast. Is there any possibility of seeing this event this weekend?

Old law 64A2 Law 64A - When a revoke is established: Law 64A1 - and the trick on which the revoke occurred was won by the offending player, (penalty) after play ceases, the trick on which the revoke occurred plus one of any subsequent tricks won by the offending side are transferred to the non-offending side. Law 64A2 - and the trick on which the revoke occurred was not won by the offending player, then, if the offending side won that or any subsequent trick, (penalty) after play ceases, one trick is transferred to the non-offending side; also, if an additional trick was subsequently won by the offending player with a card that he could legally have played to the revoke trick, one such trick is transferred to the non-offending side. New LAW 64 - PROCEDURE AFTER ESTABLISHMENT OF A REVOKE A. Rectification following a Revoke When a revoke is established: 1. and the trick on which the revoke occurred was won by the offending player*, at the end of the play the trick on which the revoke occurred is transferred to the nonoffending side together with one of any subsequent tricks won by the offending side. 2. and the trick on which the revoke occurred was not won by the offending player* then, if the offending side won that or any subsequent trick, after play ends one trick is transferred to the non-offending side. As you can see the emboldened portion of law 64A2 is gone. This will eliminate the 2 trick penalty when in fact the revoke only cost the non offenders 1 trick but.... Boy is that going to make the local club director a busy beaver. We used to trot over to the table go thru our little littany. "Where was the revoke? who won revoke trick? Did offender win subsequent trick with "revoke" card? Any subsequent tricks won by offending side? ...Ok 1 or2 trick penalty ..(law 64C below)unless you can show me that you are entitled to more tricks. Now we will say " Where was the revoke? who won revoke trick?(not the offender.ok)Any subsequent tricks won by offending side? Ok let me go to my desk and determine if the 1 trick penalty is adequate and i'll get back to you sometime this week" I can imagine a situation where the revoke gives offender the squeeze card to make an additional trick. We can even name it the 64A squeeze B) Now the poor club director has to try to analyze that and decide a 2 trick penalty (oops sorry), RECTIFICATION is warranted Let's hope that all the club directors hand analysis is ok else the people will be rioting. Law 64 C. Director Responsible for Equity When, after any established revoke, including those not subject to rectification, the Director deems that the non-offending side is insufficiently compensated by this Law for the damage caused, he shall assign an adjusted score.

[hv=d=n&v=n&w=saht8532dak2caj85&e=st9xxhaqxxdqtxxcx]266|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] actual auction 1♣ -P-P-2♥ P-4♣-P-4n P-5♣(1/4)-P-5♦ P-6♥ all pass ♥king onside, ♦jack 3rd, 12 tricks taken, aint bridge an easy game. frankly i hated the 2h bid but this time it worked. fortunately i was only an observer but im sure i would have still been sitting at the table trying to decide between 1♥ and x.

[hv=d=n&v=n&s=saht8532dak2caj85]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] You play, 2♣ = michaels, 1n=12-14, 2n=18-19 Your partner is solid club pro and you are playing against 2 advanced players that play 2/1 game force. 1♣ - P - P - ? Your Call

is using fourth suit forcing by the opening bidder a new treatment? How can the opening bidder deny a game force (by not jump shifting) and after partner takes a preference now use fsf? Granted with xx kx akjxx akxx i would certainly like it to be but...... since i dont think its applicable id choose 3c rather than 2 and apologize if we got too high. with qx kx akjxx aqxx id jump to 2nt and hope pard held at least jxx. thus in my opinion 3s should be a good hand 3154 and as such i raise to 3s since spades certainly could be the place to play.

no, 2♣ is an ambiguous rebid (11-18). For those that x and rebid ♣, how would you have bid a hand with same distribution (or a 5th club) and minimum strength.
-
you are south [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sxhatxdaq9xxcaqxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♦ - p- 1♥- 1♠ ? in non competitive auctions your agreement is to rebid 2♣ followed by 2♥, thus describing a hand in the 16-18 pt category with1354 distribution. (Direct raises with 3 card support are common and expected on minimum hands of this shape) In competition you play support doubles. How do you plan to describe your hand in this context. Presume pard make some minimum response to your choice of calls. what next? Any macroagreements that you and pard have that impact your choice of calls PLEASE state them. x will get you 1nt, 2♣ receives 2♦ For some unknown reason you and partner have not discussed this sequence. I guess (since im posting this sequence) it's obvious that pard and i didnt get it right.

Here in miami, fl. there was a memorial for Mark yesterday. I wasnt there but heard that it was well attended by many of the "names" in north american bridge as well as his family from Montreal. Tina (Tinatess) informed me that Jennifer (mark's daughter) sent a very poignant message to her Daddy. Mark will be missed by us . There was never a time that when mark and i spoke that he didnt have a smile on his face and another bridge hand to give. And man could he whack a golf ball!! Mark wherever your are may all your putts drop, your drives be long and in the fairway and most of all Keep an eye on the rest of us duffers and hopeless bridge players fred wills

(ben if you think this should become a new thread be my guest and start one) Thx for the input all. FYI i argued for last train applying and that the splinter was a slam try. A review of the auction 1♦ - 1♥ 1♠ - 4♦ many of the posts to this thread indicated that the splinter bid limited the responders hand(but did not address whether or not the splinter was a slam try) It is also my belief that the splinter is a limited bid and turns the captancy back over to the opener but ....It would seem to me that after the opener has limited his hand a splinter is a waste of time and too much info to opponents IF it is not intended to let the opener know that a fitting maximum could make a slam opposite the responder's hand. Would someone contending that the splinter is not a slam try please help me out with the logic.

interesting system. I dont like 3s that sounds like offering to play a 4-3 spade game (me having the 4). Since i can count 7 tricks (6c +1s)i guess i will try for game in nt and bid 3h (looking for h stopper not partial) give pard a/kh and ks we are gin for 3n.in addition there are many other holdings where game in nt will make but 4c may be the limit in a suit contract. adenda it would help if i had noted the 3h bid by opponents. but if they let me make the insufficient q-bid all will be well. else .. i guess im going to vote for 3s....still aiming at 3n and pulling 4s to 5c

I prefer not to stretch with my xx's thus i would not make that call. Question What would 1nt (relay to clubs) followed by 2h mean. My pard and i play that shows a 2 card raise with about 6-9 pts. ( we took that from "cappelletti raises over a major doubled") I dont care for 1s very much because my pards have a tendency to raise me with 3 cards and i would hate to be playing a 4-3 fit with bad spades and a probable 4-2 break. yes 2 clubs is forcing pards hand is unlimited. is pass of 2s a forcing pass... No. pard indicates a minimum xx with clubs.

Hi everyone long time no see :D I just had a fairly heated discussion re the following auction. Let's hear your opinion . 1♦ - 1♥ 1♠ - 4♦ Question 1. Assuming the 4♦ bid is a splinter is it a slam try. Question 2. Does Last train apply to this auction ie. what does 4♥ mean by the opener. Please include reasoning behind your answers.

I think the partner of the 2s bidder was very pessimistic. My pard and i play that a 4c response over a weak 2 bid is 1430. That would have been my choice. when pards shows 1 countrol we are off 2 controls and i sign off in 4s. I like our treatment a lot because it allows for slam investigation without going pass 4 of our suit. Of course using this treatment you can't make a control asking bid for clubs

Nessuno parla della exclusione di lavazza ?
easy replied to easy's topic in Il forum per bridgisti italiani-
Fred

Start of BBO - Who were the Early birds
easy replied to badderzboy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I remember being at the toronto natls and seeing fred's demo of BBO. I started playing on bbo immediately after that.......... august of 2001 :) -
I noted in the topic "What to bid" that many people entertained the notion of doubling with the following hand:[hv=s=sxxxhakjdkq972cjx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] after a 1S opening bid. Some stated that they play equal level conversion thus in their partnership x followed by 2d (over a 2c response and probably over a 1nt response) does not show any extras. I'd like to know how "equal level conversion" handles big hands. And in this specific instance a big hand with diamonds. For instance[hv=s=sxxxhakjdkq972cjx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]. i'm aware of the general principal of equal level conversion but it has never been made clear to me how to differentiate between the good hand and the "bad" hand. This treatment seems to have a lot of merit but........ Thanks Fred (easy)

bidding after double, redouble ?
easy replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
If i were sitting at the table , held the xxxx, ak,qxx, axxx and heard 2d - x - xx - ?? i would start looking to see who my pard is and who the opponents are...... because this auction is virtually impossible. 2d weak(5-10?) x = opening hand with shortness in diamonds, or a big balanced hand xx = pard i have a good hand and they have screwed up.If they bid something you can double pls do. (hummmmmm. someone is psyching! Since my pard "never" psychs i must assume one of the opponents is.) When pard said x i wanted to play game but now with the xx maybe 4s wont make. My regular partner and i have an agreement that covers all x -xx auctions that take place at the 2-level or higher......pass by the partner of the takeout doubler is a penalty pass.I would opt for pass and would expect the opponents to go down big time. When looking at the actual hands of the players im not sure which bids i dislike the most. the 2d opener, my pard's takeout double or the xx by rho(unless it was some systemic runout request). What was pard planning to do when i bid spades......rebid nt?? -
mike Thanks for the information. This convention sounds as if it is most useful when playing secondary jumps are forcing to game. Is that correct? fred (easy)

Hi all I was at a local bridge party last weekend where i heard a discussion re: XYZ convention.... From what i understood the convention is similar to 2way check back. for example 1d 1h 1s 2c = relay to clubs 2d = artificial and game forcing. I'd like to know more about this convention. Also how does this convention mesh with fourth suit forcing. A reference to material on the web would be helpful. Thx Easy
