  1. I didn't put our 3-bid structure: 3♣ 5-5 minors weak 3♦ 5-5 minors Game Force 3♥ GF splinter in hearts 3♠ GF splinter in spades. This along with transfer to a major then bid a 2nd suit allows Responder to show all 2-suited hands at the 2 or 3 level.
  2. I usually play 4-suit transfers which use 2♠ as transfer to clubs and 2NT transfer to diamonds allowing Opener to SuperAccept with the intervening bid when holding 3 or more in the minor with at least one of the top honors. Frequently this results in minor suit slams that others miss. I play South African Texas transfers when playing 10-12 or 11-14 1NT openings where the 4♣ and 4♦ bids are transfers to 4♥ or 4♠ respectively and 4♥ or 4♠ are to play. Using this, if responder want to use Gerber, it require 1NT 2♣ 2? 4♣. In either case, I usually reserve the 1NT 2♣ 2? 2NT sequence to invitational hands where I have a reasonable source of tricks. I tend to pass 1NT with balanced invitational hands when playing baby and weak 1NT ranges as it gives opponents a good chance to get into trouble in the balancing seat.
  3. I would bid 4♥ in that auction. Without interference we use 3♠ to show a positive response with a 7+ card suit headed by at least AKQ. Then: The only allowed contracts then are NT or Responder's suit. 3NT is to play as are game/slam bids in NT or Responder's suit. 4♣ is a modified beta ask for outside controls (1st step == 0, 2nd step == 1, ...). 4♦ asks for Responder's suit (4NT shows ♦). If Opener bids any suit other than 4{♣,♦} it is a Control Asking Bid (CAB) in that suit.
  4. There are several sources for RFID protectors for credit cards and passwords. My wife likes this one. I got this passport wallet from Amazon which has 5 slots for credit cards.
  5. I've been playing a 12-14 point NT since the late '60s when I played K-S, and currently play it with most of my 2/1 partners. We go against the Conventional Wisdom and use standard Stayman, 4-suit Transfers with fit-showing Super Accepts of 2♦ and 2♥ transfers, and South African Texas 4-level transfers. 3♣ and 3♦ are to play while 3♥ and 3♠ varies with my partner's prejudices. When doubled we use DONT Runouts as described in Andy Stark's book on weak NT. XX = 10+ -- it's our hand. 2 of a suit is at least 4-4 in that suit and a higher suit. Pass is forcing (avertable), a single-suited hand. This requires Opener to bid a 5-card suit if available or redouble without one asking Responder to bid his single suit. When playing Precision, we open a 10-12 NT in positions 1-3, any vulnerability. DONT runouts are the same except that redouble requires 12+. Here we use 2♣ Stayman, 2♦ GF Stayman, 2♥ and 2♠ to play. South African Texas is on.
  6. We use the 1M-2M-3M with Kokish game tries as a trump asking bid. This allows Responder to pass or bid 3NT with a weak trump suit and good values in the other suits. There's a pretty good discussion of that here:
  7. Honeyman part in Florence OR is probably the nicest camp site I've used. There's a sectional tournament in Seaside OR 19-21 April, and another at Fircrest WA 26-28 April (near Tacoma). There are plenty of games in the Seattle area every day. Bill
  8. This all depends on the underlying OS and mail servers. I have been designing, building, installing, and supporting systems for ISPs and small-to-medium businesses since 1994, originally Unix based, now all are on Linux servers. I have moved ISP's mail servers with tens of thousands of email accounts to new hardware and new OS with effectively zero down time. We build a new Linux server, get it configured, sync the user accounts, make an initial copy of all email on the server, shut down the old server's incoming mail and POP/IMAP servers, change the DNS to point to the new server, then sync changes to the old server to bring over mail that came in since the first sync. The worst that happens is that there may be people who don't see some new messages that came in between the syncs until the resync is complete, and some messages they deleted may reappear. Of course if you're running Microsoft Exchange, it's a bit more complicated. Bill
  9. I am looking for a partner and teams to play KOs, Open Pairs, or Gold Rush Pairs Monday through Thursday of the Seaside Oregon Regional. I play 2/1, prefer weak/mini notrump, Combined Bergen Raises, Kokish game tries, XYZ, Suction vs forcing NT, etc. The Convention Cards I use are available here. Since the Seattle NABC last year, teams I've played on have won 2 I/N Swiss at NABC, 2nd KOs at Vancouver WA Regional last February, 4th overall, 1st 'B' Tacoma WA sectional Swiss, 1st 'B' Anacortes WA Sectional Swiss, 1st overall Shoreline sectional Loser Swiss, semi-finals and finals in two KO games and in overalls in Swiss at Lynnwood WA Regional. I don't think so as BBO requires Adobe Flash which is not supported on iOS.
  11. First, that hand evaluates to a limit raise using Bergen's hand evaluation with two five card suits, a singleton, and a doubleton. A bid of 3♥ then can be used to show a hidden splinter: 1♠ 3♥ (Responder has a short suit) 3N (Where? Some recommend 3♠ here) 4♣ (singleton or void clubs) 4N (keycard asking) 5♣ (one keycard) 6♠
  12. I generally play step controls over 2♣ with an approach similar to DOPI, pass <= 1 control, double = 2, and steps up from there with the 3-control consolidated instead of using 2♠ for an A-K and 2NT for 3 kings.
