  1. Thanks for answering my question with my question. I am asking what is the forcing bid here?!
  2. Wouldn't Jacoby be much better than your styling of 2NT? Puts you in the game 1♠ 2 NT 4 ♠ Pass
  3. Partner opens 1♣ Opponent 2♣ (Michaels) I have: ♠AKQJ ♥QJ95 ♦AK62 ♣J As this was on my phone I see my partner has ♠void ♥void ♦QJ10943 ♣AQ108742 What is a forcing bid here? Do I pass and double? 4NT knowing we probably have a massive diamond fit as I know where 9 of each of the majors are? Any opinions would be great. Before I knew my partners hand, E/W vulnerable I passed W bid 2S passed around to me where I doubled and we set them 4 for a score of 1100 but, 7♦ or 6♣ is makeable (king of clubs is singleton offside) Play Went Q♦ which I did not overtake, Ace ♣, 2♣ (I duck around to west) 8♦ trumped by east, east then leads A-K♥ and I take the last tricks, j♥ drawing trump and A-K diamonds.
  4. I ended up bidding 4♠ and as luck would have it 4♠ makes and 4 ♥ goes down 1 on a spade ruff.
  5. West as Dealer Auction: W 1♣ N 2♣ (Michaels 5/5 in majors per agreement) E Pass S ?? Your hand: ♠Q 10 8 6 3 ♥A J 10 7 5 ♦K J ♣10 You know you have a massive double fit, but then again so does the opponents in the minors. How do you discover your best safe contract? 2NT asking partner to bid their best suit? Or is there a better bid? Could 3♣ be construed as a "HELLO I AM 5/5 TOO!"? Sorry if this is wrong forum? Not sure whether Michaels is considered Natural or not
  6. By a response I cant handle I meant one that would get me in trouble not being able to make my contract.
  7. ♠Jx ♥- ♦AKQJ10xxx ♣AKQ My partner opens 1♥ after a pass from the dealer. I said 4NT (is there a response I cant handle???) Partner responds 5♥, I promptly bid 7NT. Any complaints with the auction? (Of course 7NT is cold no matter what P drops as they promised 2 Aces since we were playing regular blackwood not RKCB)
  8. I actually did bid 4S, making 7 as P had: ♦A J 10 x ♥K J x ♠x ♣x x x x x and I received a low heart lead, let it go to my queen, ran queen of diamonds via a successful finesse, drew trump led to ace of diamonds and claimed. Any lead but a low heart holds it to 6.
  9. ♠A Q 10 x x x x x x x ♥Q ♦Q x Im dealer, how do I accurately describe this hand? Im thinking 2♣ then bidding 3 or 4 ♠ to any response. If my Partner has Kx of diamonds I can see game pretty much guaranteed no matter how bad the spades are split (bar a 3-0 spade split and that opponent having A♥ and A♦) Any advice? I saw this hand on a bridge app on my smart phone
  10. So is it standard for 3♥ to be ABSOLUTELY forcing there, not saying hey I think my suit is better then yours?
  11. I was half afraid that I needed to hide my diamond position and wanted to declare NT from my side, just wasnt sure the most forcing bid with a random partner of unknown skill level, as the original bidder had left the table before I had a chance to bid my hand.
  12. My partner opened 3C Im asking what to respond with the hand I posted, this happened on BBO earlier
  13. New partner, first hand on BBO, so no history. Partners dealer and opens 3♣ I have: ♠A K Q 10 ♥A K 10 x x ♦A J x ♣ x Whats the best bid thats forcing and gets you to the right contract? I straight bid 6NT, making as partner had ♣AK10xxxx ♥QJ9 so had transportation even when ♣Q didnt drop after 2 rounds (thats to be expected). But any suggestions on the proper way to get there?
  14. My partner has a history of being very optimistic and bidding slam at the first chance, so I took that into account tbqh. He doesnt play cuebids for controls and gerber is over NT only for him, I could not have a clue in the world what his 5♣ meant and neither did the opposing pair who actually came in first!
  15. Im the Dealer and I look down at ♠ A x x ♥Q x x ♦ x x ♣A J 10 x x I open 1♣, LHO passes, my partner responds 2♥ showing a strong hand good hearts, RHO passes. As I opened a little light Im not very interested in much past game, so I say 4♥, LHO passes. Partner says 5♣. RHO passes. What do I say here??? If he was interested in slam I would have thought he would have used 4NT and it wasnt an Ace cue bid as I had the A♣. I passed then when he dropped his cards as dummy he sighed and said wish you didnt pass, how am I supposed to bid 5♥ from my side? Did I err or was I correct in passing the 5♣? Partners hand was: ♠ Q x ♥ A K J x x ♦ K x ♣K Q 9 X
  16. At another table the local bridge instructor opened 2♣ ended up in 6♣ but got a bottom as well because he wasn't doubled, because East/West (my teams positions) didn't get to show any points.
  17. I dont remember my exact hand, I do remember I had 9 or 10 points, I put partner on 11 or so and rho at least 5 (where he only really had 1 point not counting his 6 card heart suit) We were vulnerable my opponents were not. We ended up getting a bottom, but other people had doubled and held them to 6 as declarer did not trump a losing spade before drawing trumps. My hand was something like this ♠10 x x x ♥ A Q x ♣ x ♦ Q x x x x My figuring was LHO would be void somewhere, but double void never crossed my mind. I counted on pulling either 2 hearts or 2 diamond tricks not 0 and 0 :P And I also knew my 4th spade might pick up a trick and in an auction where we showed points I figured it wasn't a bad double. Turns out if my partned led trump we hold them to 6 as my 4th spade becomes a winner.
  18. ♠ A K Q x x ♥ void ♦ void ♣A K Q x x x x x Saw this in a bridge benefit two days ago, LHO had this hand as dealer. Opened 1♠, partner said 2♦, RHO said 2♥, I said 3♦ with 5 card ♦ support and ♥A Q over RHO's expected K♥. LHO jumped to 6♣ pass to me and I smartly (or so I thought at the time) doubled. LHO made 6♣X+1,as they trumped a spade lose with the singleton J♣ in RHO's hand. My question is, how would you guys open this?
  19. Is there any legal convention where open 1♥ or 1♠ with a singleton in said suit is a legal bid? I ran into this in a tournament today and I was wondering what conventions if any could be using such bids?
