  1. Yes, I know this history.... Thats why I wrote "properly written" simulation :) Seems to me it was the implementation that was kind of broken at the time and never fixed and/or used in the wrong situations, etc... Not that simulation as such is bad, when used in the appropriate situations (like, whether to compete once more, to raise to game or not, to explore/bid slam or not, etc). Wasnt it just that the bidding-database had too many holes in it? And simulation maybe used as soon as it could no longer find any matching sequence/bid in the database, or similar?
  2. Well, you only need to give explanation to agreements -- not if your bid is not based on an agreement... Just thinking that simulation in bidding would usually be applied in the final stage -- for example, when deciding whether to accept partners game-invitation or not, or when competing with opps abt the final contract (should we pass or bid once more). And, incidentally, there is not much explanation to give, for the last bid in sequences like: 1H-3H-4H 1H-3H-PASS or 1S-(2H)-2S-(3H)-3S 1S-(2H)-2S-(3H)-PASS Its hard to see why a properly written simulation would not work well in such cases...
  3. Thanks Barmar, Very interesting explanations. Just curious if this bidding-database (or perhaps any earlier versions of it), by any chance, is publicly available somewhere? Would be an interesting study, I think, from several aspects...
  4. I read some other threads here about GIB and Jack robots, etc. I understand the basics for how they play the cards with DD-analysis+monte-carlo-sampling. But also saw the mentioning of "single-dummy analyzers"... What is the algorithm they are using? On gibware.com, I found: "GIBson is a completely new style of cardplay engine. Instead of basing its conclusions on double dummy analysis, it is a true single dummy analyzer. We expect that GIBson will be as much better than GIB as GIB is better than the programs that preceded it." Any links or documentation where such algorithms are described?
  5. Hi, I am trying to use the BBO App on HTC Desire with Android 2.2.2. I have Flash-player 11.1 installed and also installed Adobe AIR per the instructions. Still, when I start the BridgeBase app, I only get a black-screen and nothing happens... Anyone knows what might be the problem here?
  6. Hi, Is it somehow possible to play bridge on BBO from an Andoid phone? That would be awesome...
  7. Hi, Playing the BBO "Express" Individual Tournaments, it says "every player agrees to play 2/1". Is there somewhere a more exact description of the system we are supposed to play? Questions like: - Do we play 1D-2C=GF or not? - What abt Bergen, JacNT? How do we play them, and what are openers responses, etc? - Inverted minors? - Defence against 1NT? - etc, etc, Is there some good description available?
  8. I too often see players bidding like: 1C - (PASS) - 1S - (2D or 2H) 2NT with only 13-14 hcp. In my book, 2NT in this sequence clearly shows 18-19 hcp, since responder has only shown 6+hcp. And with 12-14hcp balanced, you should pass after interference at the 2-level, if you dont have any other bid. But is it normal in std system to bid 2NT above with only 13-14 hcp?
