I had an idea to make a system that is based on aggression mostly, it tries to open on lots of hands. There was a few ideas before hand, what the system should contain 1) Kamikaze NT, with the idea to take 1NT as soon as possible 2) Assumed fit preempts because 4432 is the most common hand shape so that means frequent 2bids as well. 3) Weak/Strong club, so the major openings can be quite limited as well, and at the same time to have more hands opened So the openings 1C 15+unbal/16+bal or 8-9 bal(like Tangerine) 1D 13-15 balanced or 8-14 One minor or both minors(I think this shouldn't be a HUM opening, somebody correct me if I'm wrong) 1M 8-14 4+M(4 if unbalanced) 1NT 10-12 (Kamikaze) 2m - 4+m, 4M (Rough two's) 2H - 4+H, 4S (Ekren Type) 2S - 5S, 4+other (Muidbergish) 2NT(I was thinking both minors, although i haven't figured the strength out, technically it can be 8-14 with at least 5-4 minors) Higher - preempts Any thoughts on this/ can this work, and is this playable?

How strong should 1NT rebid be?
phoenix214 replied to phoenix214's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Well one can make an overloaded 1♥ response as a forcing nt type maybe(I don`t know if that can work) -
I was thinking about this position in precison: 1♦(2+♦)-1NT, How strong should it be?, The classical 6-9 doesn't seem good, because since i know the idea of the bid was that when opener is strong lets say 18points then you can find game, but here that isn't the case with 1D being limited down to 15. I was thinking maybe using this rebid as 9-11 as invitational or something similar. This allows to stay to play 1NT when opener doesn't want game, and still allows us to find out openers shape if he is max or doesn't want to play NT, With the weaker 0-8 hands, maybe pass w/o a 4card major or 6/5 card minor, so that means that we bid almost always anyway. Any opinions?

Well now then what do you call a good slam to bid?, What is your minimum percentage for it to work ?
-
Well how would the bidding go, if now you bid a slam try 3♥ on round 3?, i think it isn`t that good because i don`t want my p to evaluate his spades and diamonds as good cards, so that is the way i bid. Asking for aces can solve the problem, but then it usually would result in 5♥ going off, when partner doesn`t have the right cards. Of course you can bid 4♥ straight after 2♥, but then there is a risk missing a cold slam. If p has AK♥ and and ace on the side, then the slam is good enough to bid, at least according to my math.
-
Well the 1♥ is obvious, i`m not talking about that, but what plan do you have in bidding, answer 1♥ does not help much, so thanks for those replies, i can give the bidding we had at the table 1♦(11-15 2+♦)-1♥(4+♥;0+HCP) 1♠(Exactly 4♠)-2♣(10+HCP asking) 2♥(Min with 3♥)-3♣(Asks for ♣ stop) 3♦(shows diamonds)-4♣(I thought that this should show something like a big two suiter) 4♦(Que)-4♥(To play) 4♠(RKCB)-4(1/4) Pass My p misunderstood 4♣, and then did not think that 4♥ is to play. The real problem is how to bid the hand as a two suiter, because after 1♥ bid and 1♠ rebid i can`t show my hand. 3♣ shows this shape, invitational, 4♣ is splinter after 2♣-2♥, 4♣ should be a self-splinter i think, so this leaves the problem. Although if you don`t see this problem and just want to say:BID 1♥, ITS OBVIOUS, then you can save your efforts.

Your hand is: ♠:K ♥:Qxxxxx ♦:J ♣:AKJxx(don`t remeber if i had 9 or 10) Partner opens 1♦, which is 11-15 high card points with 2+♦, 1♦ has all balanced hands in the range of 11-15, 5-4 minors or long diamond hands, we don`t open trashy eleven counts, although 1♦ is allowed to have 11 balanced. How do you bid the hand?

Minor suit slam
phoenix214 replied to phoenix214's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I remember that last weekend in Latvia's open pair Imps championship there were a few interesting slams. One was with a 9 card spade fit, missing the king and an ace. Two more were making because something like 2 finesses worked. Our opps bid one of those even on a combined 29 point count. It made, although they played badly and we got about 27 imps during the next 3 boards against them -
2♣ is a bit too weak if your playing not using Gazzili Since you have a 17 count, you should definitely should bid past 2♠ 2NT, isn`t good, it is 18-19 balanced 3♣ seems like a good bid, but i don`t like it, you show 5♥-4♣, and and a strong hand. What should partner do now? 3♦ would be his second suit, you bid 3♠ and he bids 3NT, if you don`t have much in diamonds like a double stopper it may go down while 4♠ can make. My bid would be 4♠, playing on 4-3 isn`t that bad, you have good support despite having three cards, and you have a singl in diamonds, it would be bad only if partners hand is something like xxxx xx AKxxx xx Then you would regret bidding 3♠, but in other cases the bid is winner for me. Although my opinion may not be the best i hope you get my thought. If part doesn`t rebid with bad hands, maybe even bid 4♠ straight away, now opps won`t know what is happening, and your just praying partner isn`t loaded with diamond points :)

4♥ and call it a day, i think that may work, now opps are guessing, part should have something in hearts most of the time

Minor suit slam
phoenix214 replied to phoenix214's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
@PhillKing Did you also look at the hands were slams were unbid, but they have a good chance to make(Although i guess you didn`t do that)? The interesting thing is if the are still bidding slams not aggressively enough -

Minor suit slam
phoenix214 replied to phoenix214's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Well sure, there are always other possibilities, i was just started to think about such possibilities because of the way how you should bid games in imps - t.i. aggressive so i decided to do a little calculation to see how this applies to slams, and is it true that we shouldn`t bid sound slams that have to be like 60-70% making chances -
I decide to do some calculation to some calculation to see what is the risk of playing slams in imps. I compared these situations - Slam makes, other table does n `t play slam. Slam makes or it is down 1(t.i on a finesse). Comparing these situations i noticed that besides the fact that this makes large swings it pays off to put bid a slam that is on a finesse. All slams if they make give your team the same amount of imps that if you go down one your opps get. Well but then i noticed one interesting thing. If we look at a minor suit slam non-vulnerable. If it makes, you get 920 compared to 420 which is 500 difference which is +11 imps. If the slam goes down you get -50, opps get 400, difference is 450 which equals 10 imps. If i get this right - that means that bidding a minor suit small slam NV is good if you don`t have an Ace + it is on finesse. Can anybody correct me if im wrong?

playing 3Nt rather than 4M in 8cards fit.
phoenix214 replied to benlessard's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
You can use 2♣ to bid with 5M332 and spread out values, this makes so that you don`t want to play opposite a 3 card fit anyway,(3nt has better chances of making) so it isn`t that bad, and you can use the transfer and 3NT route with 5422 hands as well -

phoenix214 replied to benlessard's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
It is technicly possible to avoid such fits if you adjusst stayman a bit. 2D says "I dont have a 4 card major or I have any 4333". And with some 5332 you just bid stayman so you can play 3NT on bad fits -
Multi v Multi
phoenix214 replied to phoenix214's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
@inquriy. Well i have had only one hand when we have used this defense so i don`t know it that good. I was more interested if the theory can be used against some other types of bids as well, like defending against crash and other presumed fit type of bids, -
Chris Ryall said, that sometime a good method for defense against a method is to use the method itself, and he shows a version of "Multi v Multi" where against a "Multi" opening a double shows "Multi" itself - that is opening with a 5 card major or strong balanced or strong 4441. I was wondering if this method is good and is it possible to use a similar method against other artificial openings and defenses? http://chrisryall.net/bridge/multi-v-multi-2d.htm - link to his article

What do you do with a 5card major and 0-7 after 1♣, bid 1♦?, don`t you lose some of th good thing there if you bid 1M with those hands?
-
Against something that is "weak NT" opening bid at the moment i play CRASH + MULTI LANDY, you can play any brown sticker if your opps open a minor which is 2+, or a weak nt for that matter, i suggest you take use of that. The cost for that is that you have to memorize a bit more then normal and you lose natural overcalls, but you have to live with that

Check the book - Revised Precison by John Montgomery 4th Edition. I checked the openings of this system and they are the same as in that book(That is the system i`m currently playing with my partner) The system works very good, although i did not see the what is 1♣-1♦ in the system, + all 1/1 beside 1♦-1nt in that system can be bid with 0+Hcp. 16-18 nt and 19-20 2nt help a lot aswell
