I was kibitzing a Ladder Match and wanted to see if all the comparative scores were in. I clicked on "My Results" "Other Tables" and found the # showed as the board number for the table. The only way to know if all 16 comparators were in was to count them.

BBO Internet Teams League
square replied to wojela's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Can I seek clarification of the rules, please? Is the "old style" convention card acceptable or do we need to complete a "Full Disclosure" card? Thanks -
Thanks. :) I didn't like to keep everybody waiting while I tried only to find it didn't work. I'll give it a go next time.

I organise team matches but do not take part in the play. Getting someone else to create the match can be problematic. Is there some way I can create the match? I have never seen a team match where the host is not playing. I have tried to test it but you do not seem to be able to create a dummy match since create will not complete if all 8 are not online.

Being allowed to join a table by clicking on a person's name is a great feature. I tried it with someone who was kibitzing the Vugraph and found that the names of the players at the table weren't displayed. If I left and returned the names appeared. It happened every time I used the Join table of anybody kibitzing the vugraph except when I used the Vugraph operator!

I had this problem and it continued throughout the day. In the evening I still couldn't access www.bridgebase.com but using my husband's PC, on the same router, went straight to the site. I have XP and was able to clear the problem by flushing the DNS resolver cache on my PC. To do this: go to a command prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns It cured my problem perhaps it will cure yours. Chris

Great, much faster. I have wondered about pointing this out before and decided that it is of no real importance but if you are looking for changes before this version goes public I will mention it here. The drop down list of countries has Great Britain between Germany and Georgia.

Brilliant. Email on its way. Thanks

Hi Well it is now over 120 days and I have been trying to obtain one of the unused aliases - but still no luck :-( I appreciate it isn't a priority but InternetBridgeDomain doesn't like aliases with underscores in them. The BIL is scored by IBD and I received an email which said: We do have a challenge in respect of the 73 members who have used dashes and underlines in their log in names. ...........coding for recording results and awarding points does not accept the dashes and underlines and so the results are not awarded to you and other results can be distorted. If you want to play in ANY of our tournaments / play of the hand sessions and you have a dash or underline in your log in name you will have to dream up another log in name WITHOUT one. My current alias is kriss_ because kriss was already in use although no hands have been played by this alias in some considerable time. Any chance of releasing those unused aliases soon ? I could use a different one but I kind of got use to being called kriss. Thanks

.lin files for dummies
square replied to guggie's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Another name for lin files is movies. They are called lin files by many because the file name extension is lin, for example, 04-07-23.lin You can open movies from the opening screen of BBO. You can create movies by logging in to BBO and clicking on the Movie button and selecting new. It would be worth your while reading the Help topic in BBO for create movie - click on "Help" button when logged into BBO and then select index, select "C" and it is listed. You can then ask for more specific help. Good Luck. -
A possible bug, very annoying to me
square replied to nikos59's topic in Suggestions for the Software
You can choose the language in the options (the cog along the bottom) to show English. Once set this may override the check for your default PC language. Worth a try :-) -
It would also be helpful to know how many boards are left to play. This would then give you some idea of the time you were committing yourself to.

Are you behind a firewall ? When I first installed a firewall I couldn't access this page. Uday said to open port 81 and this worked for me. Chris

Is anyone interested in saving the chat logs of the comentators ? I have sent some lin files but wont Nikos get inundated with duplicate files ? How do we know which ones he hasn't already got ? Chris

Hi I have seen requests for substitutes and considered registering but have 2 concerns: 1. I am primarily an acol player but am learning sayc. What happens when a sub is needed for someone who is playing a system I know nothing about ? 2. What am I allowed to do while a substitute ? If I kibitz I am likely to have seen the hands. If I play in the main bridge room I could be in the middle of a hand when a sub is required. Chris

Version 3.7.0 Available For Testing
square replied to fred's topic in BBO Announcements and Special Events
Don't know if this is a bug but am using 3.7.0: I was playing in a tourney the contract, if it matters, was 6C doubled. The bidding had finished and my partner had led. Both my partner and I were then faced with the bidding square again with only one round of bidding showing whereas there had been 4. Our opps could still see the hands, the full bidding and the initial lead. My partner left the club and returned - everything was back as it should be for her so I did the same with the same result. The contract went off if anybody is interested :-) -
Version 3.6.9 Available for Testing
square replied to fred's topic in BBO Announcements and Special Events
I don't know if this is a bug or some problem with my computer. I upgraded last night to version 3.6.9. Today I played in a tourney. On moving for board 5 I could only see the back of the cards. I had to leave and upon my return had no further problem. I have my profile set up to kibitz south and this was the first time in the tourney that I was seated south. I changed my profile to view all hands but it didn't help. This might have no bearing on the problem but I include it in case it does. Just to add that I think the software is great. Chris (BBO kriss_) -
This might be a silly comment but the figure you quote of 1,100 out of 8,700 seems high. You are allowing for the survivor tourneys where not all players complete them, by definition ? :(

Thanks. I'll make a forward note to try again in July :) Chris

Hi I wasn't able to have the alias I wanted so I ended up with more than one as I tried to get one I was happy with. This made me think that may be this happens to others. Do you ever release unused aliases back into the pool ? I ask because I would still like the one I originally asked for and will keep trying if there is any chance it may become available at some future date. Chris

Thanks. :)

Hi I use an ADSL router that has a firewall that I can activate. Activating it does not prevent me using the BBO software or the web page to review hands: http://online.bridgebase.com/cgi-bin/history.pl but the web page to view tourney results: http://69.56.183.98:81/tourneyresults/ is inaccessible. Anyone know why ? Chris
-
Thanks for the replies. We did play in a small tourney. I was very nervous and, although we didn't do very well, will try again.

I am sure there would be few that would disagree with me when I say we owe a lot to hallway for her tireless efforts on our behalf. Having just read her latest email:- ****************************************************** be deprived of the ONE and ONLY opportunity (Tuesday) that I had to play 5 (FIVE) !! uninterrupted boards each week with my Mentor. Only got to do it the once !!! I cannot play bridge and at this rate I never will :-(( ****************************************************** I ask Shep to give her a special dispensation. Come on everyone, message shep or add your name here and give hallway your support ! Chris (play online as kriss_ )
