  1. Can someone explain to me how money tournaments work? I'm familiar with poker tournaments, which have a buy-in and a fee, e.g. $1 + $0.10, in which $0.10 is the fee or rake. The $1 goes into the prize pool and is distributed among the winners of the tournament. Are there any tournaments on BBO that have a structure similar like this? I'm seeing a lot of "Monthly best player award" stuff, which seems pretty stupid and non-transparant tbh. I don't understand most of the pay-out structures posted in tournament info's. Am i correct in the assessment that most of the tournaments don't pay out anything at all? And if so, why does anyone bother playing them?
  2. I'm trying to create a bidding table to practice the 4♦ relay after Gambling 3NT. I need South to hold AKQxxxx in Clubs and 9-11 HCP, and North to hold 14+ HCP. What would be the script to accomplish this?
  3. Thank you very much for your replies, even though I forgot to include my High Card Points. I had 5 points in the hand. In the actual hand there was no fit and we landed in 2♦-1 with a 5-1 against us. But I understand that is basically bad luck, so this shouldn't keep me from bidding this again next time a similar situation occurs.
  4. A hand from our club tonight: Left opens 1♦ Partner says 1NT (15-17) Right passes I'm sitting with 5♦ 4♥ 4♠ Is this a good spot for 2♣ (stayman) with the intend to pass everything? On the one hand I don't like 1NT with the club renonce. On the other hand, there is a big chance partner will end in 2♦ with a bad spread against him.
  5. I'm curious to learn what you guys think about these two situations that occurred at my club last night. In the first hand I'm not sure if raising 3♣ is a good bid by me, but I also feel my partner might be a little too weak too make 2♣ in the first place. 6. Thanks so much :) So basically you only make 9 tricks if EW play badly. I did figure 3♦ was not good, but not for the right reason.
  7. Thank you. I have noticed that sometimes it wins tricks that should'nt be won following regular guidelines (usually taking the finesse with 9 trumps), but quite often it seems to be a fairly accurate indicator. In any case, I'm usually able to see what way of playing yields the said number of tricks, but in this one I'm lost. BTW, comments on the bidding are also welcome. We had a discussion on whether the 3♦ take-out was wise.
  8. This is a hand we played on our club last night. At the end of the night we always get a sheet that shows how many tricks each side should've made in each game. I played this particular hand very poorly and went -2 (0%). I see I should've made -1, but the sheet says N should make 9 tricks and S 8 tricks with Diamond as trump. But I don't see how! Please help me out :) They start ♥A E/All N: ♠ATxx ♥T9x ♦9xxx ♣Qx E: ♠KQ9xxx ♥AQ ♦QTx ♣Kx S: ♠Jx ♥Jxx ♦AKxx ♣AJ9x W: ♠x ♥Kxxxx ♦Jx ♣T8xxx 1♠ - X - Pass - 2♦ 2♠ - 3♦ - All pass
  9. You are West and hold: ♠A9 ♥AKJ9 ♦Axxxx ♣ xx South opens a weak 2♦ (6-10 HP with a solid 6 card suit) What do you bid?
  10. We scored 4% this game as WE playing 3♠N= How would you imagine the bidding would go if 4 experts were playing it? [hv=pc=n&s=sqj6h7432d42c8643&w=s853hadqt93ckqt95&n=sakt9742h986dk7ca&e=shkqjt5daj865cj72&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1hp2c2s3cpp3sppp]399|300[/hv]
  11. Lol i messed up the diagram. West makes 3♦ of course :P Anyway thx of course East can just make 7NT
  12. At our club yesterday we picked up the following hand. [hv=pc=n&s=sjt8h9654dj52c842&w=sak74htdakq83caj3&n=sq96532h8732d4c65&e=shakqjdt976ckqt97&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=2cp3c3d4n(RKC%20Blackwood)p5d(1%20or%204%20aces)p7dppp]399|300[/hv] This scored us just a little over 50% because a lot of people got to 7NT. How did they manage that?
  13. Found this guide online: http://www.jazclass.aust.com/bridge/br0.htm Does anyone know this guide and if it's good?
  14. According to my basic theory I open 1 in a color with 12-19 points, 2NT with 20-22 points and a NT spread (5332,4432,4333) and 2♣ with 22+ points. But what to open with 20-21 points without a NT spread?
