  1. While I applaud developments to keep BBO up to date with more features relevant to the needs of the constituents and also to the ever evolving nature of bridge, the latest greatest software update to the app seems to be moving backwards. Without addressing the practice of self-alerting. The update to the app changes the nature of self alerting. (I don’t know if this affects android but certainly iphones). In the past, the bid is selected, the alert button pushed and a bridge player can post the explanation of the bid prior to submitting the bid to the table. This practice doesn’t apply anymore. Now, I have to submit the bid to the table alerted without any explanation. This requires the opponent to pause and ask or move along. Certainly this introduces a lack of transparency and ethical appropriateness to self-alerting. Perhaps we are moving toward emulating the face-to-face world of bridge where the alert needs to be made, but inquiring is up to the defenders. Ok, but applying this to an FDCC where everything is auto-alerted sets up dualistic mechanisms for alerts and a third set of alerts on the download version/client web version where it has remained unchanged presents a third set of alerting. But if BBO is wishing to emulate the vis-a-vis method of alerts, perhaps add a toggle button to the table host/TM director so that the explanation box goes to the partner of the bridge player making the alertable bid? Obviously would only apply with established partnerships and if this is not the case, allow the default on the toggle to be self-alerting. Regardless, It seems to me that providing a single set of alert procedures would likely be the most expediant route.
  2. I have avoided the forums for awhile but with the new iteration of the BBO app came looking here. I apologize if this is not the relevant place and if that is the case please direct me to where. On a side note I play 95%+ of my BBO time on my iphone and this topic appears to fit one of my many issues with the software upgrade. Where are the scores is a very apt question. For instance when kibbing a table in main, the traveler does not update with scores from boards played while I am kibbing. I only get scores for boards in the traveler that occurred prior to my kibbing. The simple fix is to leave the table and come back but tbh that doesn’t make sense because then you loose what is happening in realtime. This is particularly problematic when a student asks what should have occurred. My response now is, “I will be back, (relook at updated traveler) and then give a response. Suggestion or fix please.
  3. Thanks for writing. In terms of schedule, I don't follow a traditional schedule with the exception of Thursday evenings. As far as geography, please write me on BBO. (Without knowing more, perhaps we are an hour away). Looking forward...
  4. Hi, I am from district 5 acbl and am seeking a regular local and/or BBO partner. I am well read and can play sayc, k-s, a few relay systems and 2/1. The latter with its many distinctions (eastern, western, Hardy, Lawrence, & modern). Plenty of doodads and can rectify the count. As mentioned I am a big fan of reading older bridge books (Reese (exclusive restriction) and Kelsey (Killing defense At Bridge) although I tend to use LTC and KnR in terms of hand evaluation. Looking for a serious PD that understands humor, enjoyment, and can leave the last hand as we move onto the next (discipline as emphasized in the prelude pages to aces scientific). Compromise on styles and play welcome as is open communication. My last partner, before work subsumed my bridge availability, went on to win GNT fltB. Touch base and we can kib/play.
  5. I too play K-S as does (double !). I can play a more purist version or go modified.
