  1. Please tell me what the minimum speeds are that you require so that video works correctly?
  2. And the solution is what? If you're so sure the problem is at the user end share the knowledge that you have to help the user fix it. Publish detailed technical guidelines including minimum requirements. How is everything synchronised?
  3. I guess it's reassuring to know that this is a known issue (or issues) but what are BBO going to do about it? As a starter shouldn't video work fully for all players in your internal weekly tournament? As things stand you imply that you expect this functionality to not perform correctly for a non-negligible number of your end-users. That isn't a long-term tenable position. My internet connection is good enough to permit watching films and tv (I do have the option to reduce quality which tends to be my workaround on the rare occasions I encounter buffering issues). What do you suggest that I do to enable the video on BBO to work correctly?
  4. I have now participated in two tournaments purportedly with camera and micro and encountered a number of problems amongst which: Despite having said yes to camera and micro access for BBO and sometimes on my screen seeing my image in the right place apparently no-one else could see it or hear me. Response times both for playing a card or making a bid extremely slow during certain rounds. Bidding box sometimes presented without a complete record of previous bids. Please give guidance.
  5. Some upcoming tournaments will demand camera and micro. I would like to verify that there are no technical issues with my setup in advance What do you recommend? Have you any published guidelines?
  6. Concerning social games you are absolutely right. So maybe three settings - no undo; undo social; and undo competitive? Messed up timeframes. Resetting the clock to zero would resolve these situations where the late alert is initiated by West. However if North bids then requests an explanation of West's bid it is questionable as to whether they should then be allowed an undo.
  7. The BBO undo facility would work better if all players had impeccable ethics. Unfortunately that's not the case so I would like to suggest in brief what I think would be an improvement. Where undo is allowed that the software in the first instant validates whether the undo request should be submitted to the opponents. That the software decides using two criteria: time and circumstance. Note, trusting the software to rule on the order in which events happened ie. when the request for an undo was submitted. TIME That BBO has a time limit on when an undo can be requested. Thinking time by the side who are next to play/bid is not thinking time to submit an undo. I imagine BBO are best placed to say how long it takes to submit an undo request following a genuine misclick - presumably some delay because of software constraints? CIRCUMSTANCE During the play that BBO rejects requests for an undo after the next opponent has played.their card. During the bidding that BBO rejects requests for an undo whenever the requester is certain to have another opportunity to bid. eg LHO has subsequently bid. During the bidding that BBO rejects requests for an undo whenever the requester's partner has subsequently acted. eg bid or passed.
  8. A couple of problems I've encountered in these opening days of 2022, resulting in being unable to play two free Robot tournaments. I entered the weekend event on 1st January and completed the first of the two tournaments. I wasn't able to play the second event as, on connecting yesterday, BBO appeared (and appears) to have no record of me playing the first. Attempting to register for the Just Declare tournament a short while ago today BBO produced a message momentarily on a yellow background. "Could Not Accept. Internal Error While Registering. Internal Code = HY000." Any ideas?
  9. Testing from LibreOffice calc. [hv=lin==st%7C%7Cmd%7C2S63HAQJ72DA2CAQT9%2CS54HT96DKT643C863%2CSAQT97HKDQJ95CK52%2CSKJ82H8543D87CJ74%7Csv%7CB%7Cah%7CBoard%204%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C1S%7Can%7CMajor%20suit%20opening%20--%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C2H%7Can%7CForcing%20two%20over%20one%20--%205%2B%20%21H%3B%2012%2B%20HCP%3B%2013%2B%20total%20points%3B%20forcing%20to%203N%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C3D%7Can%7CNew%20suit%20--%204%2B%20%21D%3B%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2016-22%20total%20points%3B%20forcing%20to%203N%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C6N%7Can%7C5%2B%20%21H%3B%2019-21%20HCP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CS4%7C]400|300|This is cool.[/hv]
  10. Unfortunately after registration I have been unable to play this tournament as I received a tournament finished message. I registered and then attempted to play in the first hour of Sunday in my timezone but well before the midnight deadline USA. I wondered whether there is a time restriction of some sort. No real problem if there is, it would just be nice to know for future reference.
  11. I continued to use the Flash version because it offered reliability (think production versus test) and superior user experience. Every few weeks I would try the HTML version to see whether it had progressed from 'test'. I understand that the ending of Flash support is completely out of BBO hands but that doesn't impose an obligation on BBO users to silently accept whatever alternative version is offered. To list a few particular things I dislike with the HTML version: Regular freezes/blocks. I have never managed an HTML session of more than 30 minutes without this happening at least once. Resolution: close everything else and if that doesn't work log out and re log in. Speed. Everything on the HTML version appears to take longer than the Flash version. Playing a card for example on Flash version instantaneous reaction, on HTML version delay of up to a second? Playing at a table. Occasionally most dummy cards being hidden blocking play. Resolution: Logging out and re logging in. Playing. No option to have cards the slimmer size. (HTML version imposes where Flash version user configurable). Language version imposed in HTML. (Flash version user configurable). Bidding disappears when cardplay begins. (Flash version visible throughout). Yes, I know that matches f2f but my environment doesn't. I'm playing on BBO at home not in a club or competition. Now it may be that some of the above 'missing' functionality is actually available but I'm just unaware, in which case hopefully someone can point me in the direction of a BBO HTML versus BBO Flash comparison document.
  12. Have received further update to Firefox within last hour and am now able to logon to BBO. Please consider my problem resolved.
  13. Have the same or a similar problem. Am using Firefox browser 56/Linux OS and am stuck at the same place - the Flash log-in screen not appearing - the screen stays blank. My last successful logon to play (using same method) was around 48 hours ago - but from dpkg.log file looks like Firefox was updated from 55 yesterday. Has that created the problem? Evidently have been able to log on to access the forum. Any ideas?
  14. Tonight I was playing a tournament when on hand 5 (around 45 minutes to an hour ago) I started receiving a slow response then on accepting opponent's claim my screen froze completely. Opened a second browser window and attempted to reach a login screen (the idea being to then kill the first window and logon again) however I received a blank white screen instead. Successfully connected to a non-BBO site and then to this forum to post this message - no Internet connection problem. Am using Firefox Flash and Linux. Any ideas - either of the problem if known - or where I can find useful log data for you?
  15. Tonight I was replaced during a tournament after suffering a temporary disconnection. At the time of losing my internet connection I was bidding hand 13 of 15, the tournament (#9630) had been running just under an hour (I estimate at 55-57 minutes). Two minutes later I was reconnected to BBO but had been ejected from the tournament. The tournament eventually completed 44 minutes later. In other words we were timewise well in advance of most of the field. So why not limit the capability of TDs to replace members when disconnected? A suggestion. Introduce an 'orange: cannot be substituted' status for disconnections covering a period before passing them to 'red: can be substituted'. The length of 'orange' time could be set to 2 minutes initially at start of tournament. Then have 'orange' time recalculated and adjusted upwards or downwards dependent on whether the disconnected player is ahead or behind tournament schedule. For example to take my case today: Hands completed 12; Time elapsed 57 minutes; Time scheduled for Tournament 7 minutes per hand; Player ahead of schedule by 27 minutes. New 'orange' time 4 minutes 42 seconds being 2 minutes + 10% of 27 minutes (2 minutes 42 seconds). Maybe overkill? But it sure is frustrating to not be allowed to complete a tournament.
  16. 55 minutes ago I was invited to play a tournament on BBO. All passed fine for the first six hands. Then on hand seven my partner was playing the 4th trick of her 3NT contract when I momentarily lost my internet connection. By the time I reconnected she was on trick 9. Which was the last action I saw as the TD then chucked me out of the tournament. I actually had reconnected to my place at the table BEFORE he replaced me. This is the worst BBO experience I have had this year.
  17. Reading through the thread I now understand your thinking behind this change but............................. I am among those that download hands for analysis using "Double Dummy Solver" by Bridge Captain. This is now broken. While I appreciate that you cannot be responsible for third party applications, this particular app provides extra functionality permitting analysis across a quantity of hands which is a great help when trying to eliminate general weaknesses and "blind spots". I don't know whether you at any time integrate third party products into core BBO, if you do I would recommend DDS. If I've read this thread correctly I understand that you are aware of the issue and are hoping to help resolve it. That would be appreciated. On a practical level it's a shame that this change was made without warning as I would have downloaded June to date (precautionary) if I had known in advance. I would also have suggested that you delayed this change a few days which would have allowed everyone using DDS to retrieve a full month's data prior to change. A final thought given that your action appears inspired by the worthy motive of preventing cheating. Wouldn't the analysis available from DDS help you identify cheats?
  18. Tried to log on this evening. Web version using IE8. Got signon "page", entered user name and password. Screen then went black with one advert showing. Managed to display the source code. It was as follows: <!doctype html> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript">var p="http",d="static";if(document.location.protocol=="https:"){p+="s";d="engine";}var z=document.createElement("script");z.type="text/javascript";z.async=true;z.src=p+"://"+d+".adzerk.net/ados.js";var s=document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0];s.parentNode.insertBefore(z,s);</script> <script type="text/javascript"> var ados = ados || {}; ados.run = ados.run || []; ados.run.push(function() { ados_add_placement(4399, 20346, "skyscraper", 7).setZone(14468).setRefresh(120); /* Skyscraper 120x600 */ ados_load(); });</script> <style> body { margin: 0; border: 0; padding: 0; overflow: hidden; } div { height: 100%; width: 100%; } </style> </head> <body leftMargin="0" topMargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" style="background-color:black" > <!-- Skysscraper120x600 --> <div id="skyscraper"></div> </body> </html>
  19. On the rare occasions when I've lost connection while playing a tournament I've always tried to return, as did my partner on Sunday. It had never crossed my mind to not try to return. Shouldn't the software as default be configured to reward the honest? To repeat, my opponent could have claimed and moved on to the next table - no wait time at all - he chose to call the TD, demand that my partner was replaced, and play out the hand. I spent 53 minutes with a substitute, my partner was reconnected within 60 seconds of being removed by the TD. And you're worried about my opponents?
  20. I really enjoy playing tournaments but one occasional problem is when I or my partner loses the connection. While some tournaments allow reasonable time for reconnection others replace a player immediately on demand. Sunday evening my partner lost connection with four minutes on the clock, last hand of the round, and with the hand "over". I private messaged the declarer to ask him to claim losing zero or 1 remaining trick depending on whether my partner had a trump trick or not. My opponent didn't respond but instead called the TD and my partner was replaced. The declarer played out the hand, by which time my partner had returned. The TD ignored messages from both myself and my partner so I had to play 9 boards with a substitute. Could the software be altered to automate replacement after say 3 minutes or at least prevent manual replacement for that period? Would that not also help to alleviate some of the workload from TDs?
  21. That's what I used to do on the Windows version. But I can't find it on the web version. Please explain further.
  22. Occasionally a tournament says "read the rules". On the old Windows version of BBO no problem. But how do I access them from the web version?
